Alcatel-Lucent Video Analytics: An AppGlide Service The Alcatel-Lucent Video Analytics service gives Internet service providers (ISPs) analytics and reporting capabilities that provide a new level of visibility into online video delivery. ISPs gain valuable insight into customers’ quality of experience (QoE) as well as content usage and Content Delivery Network (CDN) performance. The Alcatel-Lucent Video Analytics service collects, aggregates and mines data from multiple sources, including video player plug-ins, HTTP agents, CDN log files and Netflow data. It then provides ISPs with multidimensional comparisons and cross-correlation analysis of this data. ISPs can use this information to pinpoint and address QoE-affecting issues in the network. Keeping QoE high helps ISPs build brand value and increase customer loyalty. Features • Passive and active monitoring of customers’ viewing experience as well as content availability and quality. • Automatic scouting for Internet video content using an automated seek algorithm. • QoE global scoring model based on Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs research. • Reporting and management portal that is dynamically updated. • Large set of executive dashboards with drill-down and analysis capabilities. • Cloud-based offering with managed services provided by Alcatel-Lucent. • Service is delivered and billed according to a regularly reviewed service commitment level. • Highly scalable and resilient service with fully redundant software and hardware components. Benefits • Improves customer satisfaction and lowers churn by allowing ISPs to identify and effectively address content quality issues. • Increases revenue opportunities by giving ISPs the deep insight into cus- tomer behavior, customer engage- ment and content popularity they need to attract new customers and advertisers. • Improves return on investment (ROI) by helping ISPs develop a profitable content delivery strategy and fine- tune it to improve results. • Increases brand value and customer loyalty by allowing ISPs to pinpoint and resolve QoE-affecting issues in the network. • Accelerates access to valuable data by allowing ISPs to start generating reports with no up-front costs and feature-based options.

Technical specifications

Technology componentsThe Alcatel-Lucent Video Analytics service is comprised of three components. Each component delivers data to the Alcatel-Lucent Video Analytics web services, data warehouse and portal for aggregation and reporting.

•Video player plug-in: This software is added to the customer’s video player(s). It continuously and passively measures the customer’s viewing experience, reporting events that are used for QoE scoring and dashboard creation. It can be installed on computers, mobile devices and other Internet-connected video devices.

•QoE agents: These software clients are installed on standard hardware and deployed in the ISP’s network. QoE agents behave like virtual end users, actively measuring content availability and quality so the data can be included in reports.

•CDN log files: These files provide data about CDN performance, content usage and trends and are used to generate reports. Analysis of CDN log files is performed entirely in the cloud.

Portal reporting features •Comprehensiveanddynamicvisualizationof

the data collected by the Alcatel-Lucent Video Analytics service.

• Largesetofreportsandminingcapabilitiesavailable:

¬ Up to 30 detailed graphical reports grouped into three categories: QoE, CDN performance, content usage and trends.

¬ Data collected is aggregated, allowing end-to-end analysis.
