ISOTOPES BLANKED BY CHASERS, 6-0: The Albuquerque Isotopes offense was held to just six hits as the Omaha Storm Chasers cruised to a 6-0 win Sunday afternoon at Werner Park. Starting pitcher Stephen Fife was masterful early on, allowing just one hit and three total base runners through five innings until running into trouble in the sixth. After the right-hander plunked An- thony Seratelli to lead off the inning, Johnny Giovtella slapped a one-out single to right, putting runners on the corners. Fife’s 82nd pitch of the afternoon proved to be his last, as Wil Myers hammered a three-run homer that just barely got over the wall in left, giv- ing the Chasers an immediate 3-0 lead. One inning later, Omaha padded its advantage with another three run rally. With a runner on first and one down, Max Ramirez lined a single to center, putting runners on the corners for Seratelli, who drove an RBI single to right, putting the Storm Chasers ahead 4-0. Lorenzo Cain then delivered the knock-out punch in the form of a two-run single to right, plating Ramirez and Seratelli and giving the home team a 6-0 cushion. That was plenty for a quartet of Omaha pitchers, who limited the vaunted ‘Topes offense to a mere six hits and a walk while striking out a combined 14. Starter Will Smith tossed 6.0 shutout frames, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out nine to get the win, while relievers Brandon Sisk, Jeremy Jeffress, and Ryan Verdugo each authored scoreless frames to send Omaha to its third straight victory. TIME FOR THE ACE: Looking to snap a three-game losing streak, the Isotopes turn to their ace, right-hander John Ely, who has shown a knack for stopping skids. On May 26, Ely put a stop to a three-game ‘Topes losing streak with a dominant 6.0 inning performance vs. Oklahoma City at Isotopes Park, but even that pales in comparison to the streak Ely stopped at Werner Park almost exactly a year ago. With Albuquerque in free-fall having lost 10 games in a row, a franchise record, the right-hander delivered a brilliant outing against Omaha on July 3, authoring 7.0 shutout innings in which he allowed just four hits in a 2-0 ‘Topes win. If he’s going to deliver the Isotopes another victory, Ely will have to limit the long balls. After conceding just seven home runs in his first 82.2 innings, the right-hander has allowed five dingers in his last 13.1 frames of work, including a season-high three his last time out on June 27. SWING AND A MISS: The Isotopes have reached double-digits in strikeouts in five of their last six games, a span in which they’ve been punched out 62 times. On the season, Albuquerque batters have struck out 628 times, third most in the Pacific Coast League. The punchouts haven’t impacted produc- tion, however, as the ‘Topes are tied with Omaha for the third highest team batting average in the circuit (.289) and have scored the second-most runs in the PCL (476- Sacramento has scored 488). ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL: With a scoreless inning of work yes- terday, Triple-A All-Star Josh Wall continues a dominating stretch in which he has not allowed a run in 11 straight appearances (11.1 IP), his longest score- less streak of the season. Since the streak began on June 5, the opposition is batting just .209 (9x43) against Wall, who is also a perfect seven-for-seven in save opportunities over that span. BERM SEATING FOR THE FOURTH ON SALE NOW!: Last year, the ‘Topes set a franchise record by welcoming 16,059 to the team’s July 4th fireworks extravaganza. This year promises to be just as big if not bigger as berm seating has already gone on sale and is going fast. Don’t miss out on the biggest and best fireworks show in town! NEXT STOP- THE FOURTH: After a road trip to Omaha, the Isotopes are back home on July 4 for a spectacular Independence Day celebration in which fans will be allowed to watch the annual fireworks show from the field. Adding to the festive atmosphere will be the classic rock cover band Stratus Phear, which will play live from 4:45-5:00 PM at Captain’s Corner. On July 6, fan favorite Myron Noodleman will be on hand to make one of his never- tedious appearances! TODAY’S START: John Ely takes the mound coming off a loss on June 27 at Memphis when he pitched 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while walking one and striking out nine in a 3-2 ‘Topes loss. Had a 2-1 lead until giving up back-to-back solo homers in the seventh. Won a season-high fourth straight game after a victory on June 22 vs. New Orleans when he allowed four runs on five hits in 6.1 innings while walking one and striking out six in an 8-4 Isotopes win in seven-innings. Came two outs away from becoming the first Isotope this season to toss a complete game but surrendered back-to-back home runs that ended his night. Had a streak of six straight quality starts from April 30-May 26. Had a dominant 3-2 win at Tacoma on May 10 when he allowed just two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out a career-high 11, shat-tering his old career-high of nine set in 2008 when he was at Single-A Winston-Salem in the South Atlantic League. Authored 15.0 scoreless innings in three straight home starts from April 19-May 5. Earned his first victory of 2012, a stellar start on April 19 vs. Iowa when he allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings while walking two and striking out five in a 4-3 ‘Topes win.

2011: Played most of the season in Albuquerque, going 7-8 with a 5.99 ERA (96 ER / 144.1 IP) in 25 starts.. recalled on April 10 and made a spot start for the Dodgers that day at San Diego where he allowed four runs on six hits in 5.2 innings while walking three and striking out five in a 7-2 loss to the Padres... optioned back to Albuquerque on April 11... nearly threw his first career no-hitter and the first no-hitter in Isotopes history in the second game of a doubleheader at Iowa on April 20... after holding the I-Cubs hitless going into the seventh and final inning, he struck out the first two batters he faced before giving up a double to Marquez Smith... then retired the next batter to preserve the complete-game shutout, the first of his career... named PCL Pitcher of the Week for April 18-25 thanks to his performance... had a dominating nine-inning, complete-game win vs. Reno on May 22, just the 10th nine-inning complete game thrown by an Isotope at home in franchise history and the first nine-inning complete game in Ely’s career... allowed one run (on a Cody Ransom homer) on just three hits while walking one and striking out seven in the 3-1 ‘Topes victory... recalled on June 4 and had a brief stay with the Dodgers that saw him make his first Major League relief appearance (and the second relief outing of his career - 2007 at Rookie-Level Great Falls) on June 5 at Cincinnati... entered the game in relief of Chad Billingsley in the sixth inning with the Dodgers lead-ing 9-4 and worked three innings, allowing two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out four in a 9-6 Dodgers win... if he had worked the ninth, he would have been in line to earn his first Major League save, but Josh Lindblom pitched the ninth for LA... optioned back to Albuquerque on June 6... had a short stay with the Dodgers after being recalled on August 1 and was inserted into the Los Angeles bullpen, but did not appear in any games before being optioned back to Albuquerque on August 7... recalled one last time on Sept. 6 and made three more relief appearances for Dodgers, not allowing a run in 4.0 innings... in five total appearances in LA (one start) went 0-1 with a 4.26 ERA (6 ER / 12.2 IP).

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Rookie right-hander made his Major League debut in 2010, going 4-10 with a 5.49 ERA in 18 starts over three stints with the Dodgers... had his contract purchased from Albuquerque on April 28 and made his Major League debut that day, allowing five runs over 6.0 innings and taking the loss in the Dodgers’ 7-3 defeat at New York (NL).. picked up his first big league victory on May 11 at Arizona, allowing two runs over 6.0 innings in the Dodgers’ 13-3 win… finished the month of May with a 3-1 record and a 2.18 ERA (8 ER / 33.0 IP) in five starts... made six straight quality starts from May 6-June 1, which were the most consecutive quality starts for a Dodger rookie since Hideo Nomo’s 12 straight from May 17-July 20, 1995... started his career without allowing a home run in his first 50.1 innings over eight games, which was the longest run by a Dodger pitcher to start a career since Fernando Valenzuela went 82.2 frames without allowing a big fly from Sept. 15, 1980 to the third inning of a game vs. Montreal on May 14, 1981... faced 89 consecutive batters without allowing a walk between April 28 and May 22... was the longest streak for any Dodgers rookie since Dave Stewart had a 93-batter streak in 1981.

PERSONAL/MISCELLANEOUS: John Ely... attended Miami (Ohio) University... went 26-7 with a 3.07 ERA in his three-year collegiate career... ranks second in school history with 284 career strikeouts and tied for fifth with 26 wins. --- Complete Biographical Information on Page 27 of the 2012 Isotopes Media Guide
