Show Managers Message
Welcome to our 21st fall annual show. It is only possible through the efforts over the years of a lot of individual cage bird fanciers whose combined interest has made the hobby and club a viable entity. There have been a number of people who have come and gone but all have put a mark on the development of the club to make it what it has become today. Our show has become one of the main shows in Canada to attend and compete in. We have always had top-notch judges from Canada, USA and Europe to evaluate our birds and it is because of this that we have the high caliber of birds available for competition. The judges this year are from British Columbia, Ontario and the United States. Our show sets a standard that has been repeated by other clubs
both here and in the USA. It is something that every member should be aware of and proud of.
I look forward to meeting everyone at the show this year in a time of fellowship and for a time to exchange ideas and see what the result of another breeding year brings to the show bench. I ask that you have fun and take the time to congratulate the individuals with the best bird in each of the six divisions. May the best birds win.
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who will be participating and attending our show this year. Our show represents western Canada with exhibitors and visitors from Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Thanks also to the Western Canadian Budgerigar Association for supporting our show. It is great to have the clubs supporting each other.
Thanks to the Edmonton Pet Parrot Association for putting on a display of their hookbill birds on the mezzanine of the hall.
Thanks also to the Aviculture Advancement Council of Canada (AACC) for once again sponsoring and supporting our annual show.

Judges Profile
Romeo Simenetto Type Canary Judge
Born in Italy in 1942, I became a lover of birds as a very young boy. As a youngster, I would climb trees to get birds from their nests and try to raise them without any knowledge whatsoever. I was able to purchase my first canary at the age of approximately 9 years old. I still remember not being able to afford a male so I got a female instead. That started my lifelong interest in birds. Throughout my adulthood, I have only been without my bird hobby for a few years as a new Canadian. I have breed most type canaries and have judged the American National four times, two shows in Italy and the IGBA Show in England as well as many local shows that are too numerous to count. I am a strong believer that to properly judge, you should have raised them. In the last few years, I have scaled down a bit.. This hobby has brought me much pleasure and has been educational as well. Throughout the years, while pursuing this great hobby, I have met and made many friends.

David Benites Colourbred Canaries
Born and raised in Lima, Peru, South America is where this wonderful interest in canaries started. My parents bought me first canary which was given at Christmas when I was seven years old. Since then my affection for canaries has become part of me. When I lived in Indiana in 1979 a good friend of mine, my mentor, Bill Henderson helped me and taught me how to get started with canaries. In 1981 I moved to California where I joined the San Diego County Canary Club, and through time I have held several offices in the club. In 1995 I went to the memorable National Bird Show in New Orleans where I was certified as National Judge by the National Colorbred Association after undergoing a written test and a visual identification test. Since then, I have judged in several cities throughout the U.S., to mention a few, (ACFA) Los Angeles, (SDCCC) San Diego Bird, in 1996, the Capitol City Bird Society invited me to judge their Bird Show, King’s County Canary Club Bird Show in Brooklyn-New York, Golden Gate Avian Society in Pleasanton-California, Honolulu, Hawaii, New Orleans-LA, Seattle, WA, Vancouver-Canada, Montreal-Canada, at the National Cage Bird Show in New Hampshire I Judged the Fife Fancy Division, a great experience!!! Presently, I am the President for the: San Diego County Canary Club Our Association’s website site is: http://sandiegocanaryclub.com/ Our personal website is: http://www.davidssingingcanaries.com/ My email is: [email protected] Thank you for having selected me as one of your judges for your show and good luck in the show!!! Vincent H. Moase
Finch and Hookbill Judge
Interested in birds since childhood, Vince started out as a boy raising chickens and pigeons. He went on to birds of prey, pheasants, quail, doves, and waterfowl, with experience at Kortwright Waterfowl Research Foundation. As a former zookeeper (10 years) at the Toronto Zoo, he gained a unique opportunity to work with uncommon softbills and larger birds such as Hornbills, Cranes, Rhea, Emu, and Ostrich. Vince has kept and bred a variety of parrots over the years including Princess of Wales, Ring Necks, Goffin Cockatoo, Kakarikis, and Hanging Parrots, Bourkes, Turquoisines, and Cockatiels. He has been breeding foreign birds for the past 47 years. Breeding successes include Pekin Robins, White-rumped Shamas, Superb Starlings, African and Australian Waxbills and Finches, Cuban Melodious, show stock Bengalese, and English show stock Zebra Finches. His birds have received awards from both Canadian and U.S. National Bird Shows. Currently due to extensive renovations in the bird room, the birds have been reduced to 2 pair of Pekin Robins, Violet Eared Waxbills, and for backyard fun, the recent addition of 3 Black Wyandotte Bantam hens. Affiliations include the National Finch and Softbill Society (US), The Zebra Finch Society (U.K.), Budgerigar and Foreign Bird Society,. and Durham Avicultural Society (D.A.S.). In his home club, D.A.S., Vince has held numerous positions including show manager and president. He is an NFSS and AACC accredited judge, and has been judging in Canada and the U.S. for the past 40 years. Vince has judged many local clubs and shows, throughout Ontario and the US, as well as the Finch and Hookbill Division of several Canadian Nationals, and the Finch and Softbills division of the U.S. National Bird Show. Vince is a lifelong resident of Ontario, a father of two and grandfather of three. Contact information: Vincent H. Moase, 1078 Roundelay Crt., Oshawa, ON. L1J 7R7 (905) 723-1978, [email protected]

SHOWS Two shows are held each year. The Baby Bird Show is a fun affair and provides an opportunity for members to show off this year’s youngster as well as take part in the social aspects of good conversation and good food! The NACBA Fall Show is a three day event with the exhibition and judging of cage birds from across Western Canada. At the awards banquet, exhibitors with winning birds are presented with an award or trophy. The fall shows, open to the general public, promotes considerable interest in the hobby and sets example for the care and maintenance of cage birds. Many specialty breeder supplies are available for purchase.
