Boomtown Casino is owned by Gamehost Inc. (TSX: GH)

The casino in Fort McMurray began as a small temporary operation. It was bought by Winners Gaming in 1992 and two years later it opened at the MacKenzie Park Inn (now the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre). It was renamed and moved to its current premises in Peter Pond Shopping Mall in May, 2000.

Casino Yellowhead

Opened at present location in 2000

Located in the City of Edmonton, AB near the east-west Yellowhead Trail

In May 2011, Casino Yellowhead was acquired by Onex Corporation (TSX: OCX) when it took over Casino ABS

Casino Yellowhead opened in August 2000 at a cost of $16-million. This facility was essentially a replacement for the city’s Casino ABS Downtown at 102nd St. and 105th Ave. (opened ~1990) which itself had moved from its original location in a refurbished warehouse on 112th St., North of Jasper Ave. (opened in 1981).

Palace Casino is owned by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited

The Palace Casino is one of the longest-running casino operations in Edmonton, having started as a 10,000-square-foot facility in April 1990. At that time it was owned by a consortium of 69 charities and managed by former construction industry executive Howard Worrell.

River Cree Resort and Casino

The Enoch Cree were one of the first to submit an application for a casino after the Alberta government announced in 2002 that it was prepared to accept proposals from provincial First Nations. In April, 2004, the AGLC approved the band’s application to construct an on-reserve casino.

side of the North Saskatchewan River in the City of Edmonton, AB

Opened in 1986 and was previously known as Casino ABS South

In May 2011, Casino Edmonton was acquired by Onex Corporation (TSX: OCX) when it took over Casino ABS

Casino ABS was founded by the late Heinz Oldach who had been running charitable casinos in Alberta since 1973. Oldach began his business career as general manager of the carnival rides arm of Acme. When he was 28, Oldach and Acme colleague Harry Nash bought the carnival company, added new rides, and, in 1973, incorporated Alberta Bingo Supplies Ltd. (hence the name ABS).

Baccarat Casino Baccarat Casino

Located downtown in the City of Edmonton, AB

Owned by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited

The Baccarat opened in October 1996 at the corner of 104th Avenue and 101st Street in downtown Edmonton. It was built by Carlson Construction of Edmonton for approximately $2.2 million. At that time the Baccarat was the City of Edmonton’s third casino.

Century Casino Edmonton opened in November, 2006

Located in the northeast of the City of Edmonton, AB

Owned by Century Casinos, Inc. of Vienna, Austria (CNTY: US)

Century Casinos, Inc. is an international casino entertainment company that owns and operates Century Casino & Hotels in Cripple Creek and Central City, Colorado, and in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Company also operates casinos aboard luxury cruise vessels.

Apex Casino opened in November, 2006

Located in the suburban City of St. Albert, AB which is northwest of the City of Edmonton

Bruce McPherson is the president of Game Plan Developments, owner of St. Albert's Apex Casino

Known as the Gold Dust until 2010, the Apex casino was opened in 1994 by owner Bruce McPherson after his Sandman Casino in Edmonton lasted only seven months due to competition from the recently opened Palace Casino at West Edmonton Mall.

Elbow River Casino Elbow River Casino opened its

The original 14,000-square-foot casino adjacent to the Elbow River Inn opened in 1989 as the province's first purpose-built casino

Casino Calgary is owned by Casino ABS (Alberta Bingo Supplies, Ltd.). ABS was incorporated 1973 and is Canada’s oldest casino operator and largest operator in the Province of Alberta. In May 2011, Casino ABS was acquired by Onex Corporation (TSX: OCX) for C$111 million from the estate of the Company's founder. Casino ABS owns four Alberta casinos.

Cash Casino Calgary

Cash Casino (Calgary) is Alberta’s oldest permanent casino and was founded at Blackfoot Trail and 40th Avenue S.E. in 1980

Century Casino Calgary

The Century Casino Calgary facility was purchased by Century Casinos Inc. in January, 2010

Located southeast of downtown in the City of Calgary, AB

Owned by Century Casinos, Inc. of Vienna, Austria (CNTY: US)

Silver Dollar Action Centre was established at the present location of Century Casino Calgary in 1983. On July 1, 1996, Frank Sisson’s Silver Dollar Casino was added to the facility. The Silver Dollar was owned by the colourful Frank Sisson, a Scottish-born bowling entrepreneur and breeder of miniature horses. In October, 2007, Sisson sold the Silver Dollar casino to British Columbia-based Evergreen Gaming Corp. for $22-million. Evergreen subsequently asked for creditor protection and the casino was placed into receivership. It was purchased by Century Casinos Inc. in January, 2010.

Cowboys Casino Cowboys Casino, until

recently known as Stampede Casino, opened for business at its present location on June 19th, 2008

Located close to downtown in the City of Calgary, AB

Owned by the non-profit Calgary Exhibition & Stampede and operated in conjunction with Penny Lane Entertainment (PLE) GroupCowboys Casino dates to 1969 when the Frontier Casino

became the second legal casino in the province. In 1988, the casino opened in its "old" location in the Big Four Building on the grounds of Stampede Park. The "old" Stampede Casino was approximately 40,000-square-feet in size although it expanded during the 10 days of the Stampede in July. The "new" Stampede Casino facility opened in June, 2008 and was renamed Cowboys Casino in 2012.

Stoney Nakoda Casino is owned by the Stoney Tribal Administration and managed by Stagewest Hospitality. The three bands that togerther comprise the Stoney Nation are Chiniki, Wesley and Bearspaw

In May 2011, Casino Lethbridge was acquired by Onex Corporation (TSX: OCX) when it took over Casino ABS

Casino Lethbridge relocated to its present location in August 2004 from its old facility on 3rd Avenue South. The new casino reportedly cost more than $10-million to construct.

Horse Racing Alberta, a not-for-profit corporation, is responsible for issuing racing licences for all horse racing in Alberta. The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, however, is responsible for the licensing of all racing entertainment centres (i.e., slot machines) located at racetracks.
