Weather forecasts and warnings
Public information through internet and media
Daily precipitation forecasts to hydrological authorities for river catchments of Danube-Tisza
Cooperation with the Directorate for Disaster Management
16th August 2015 – biggest flash flood ever in Budapest

Observations
Implementation of „Enlargement of the weather network in Hungary and quality improvement of its rainfall measurement”, new radar station at Szentes-Lapistó and 18 disdrometers
Meteorological stations at the highest points near Budapest, equipped with an ultrasonic anemometer, a rain gauge, temperature, humidity and pressure sensors
Dataloggers developed by OMSZ; compatible with the currently standardized sensors, several options for data transmission

Climate activities
EKOP tender „Complex Agricultural Risk Assessment System” two new services: OMSZ provides information damaging extreme meteorological events, central damage assessing system, + 15 new stations, improved MISH climate-data interpolating system, providing precipitation data using radar measurements.
Aladin-Climate and REMO study climate change characteristics in EURO-CORDEX cooperation, using the newest emission scenarios from last IPCC report.
Joint climate modelling activities with Rossby Centre of SMHI and with Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium.
HARMONIE-Climate 15 km HARMONIE-Climate 6 km ALADIN-Climate 10 km
Difference between simulation results and observations for winter precipitation (%), 1998–2007
(HARMONIE-Climate and ALADIN-Climate are used by SMHI and OMSZ, respectively)

Support to climate adaptation
Meteorological data for National Adaptation Geo-Information System developed by Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary to serve common basis for future climate impact assessments
OMSZ and Eötvös Loránd University, Department of Meteorology have a project „New climate scenarios based on the change in radiative forcing for the Carpathian basin” funded by the Norway Grants.
KRITéR - „Study of the vulnerability to climate change, with special attention to turism and critical infrastructure”

Air quality activities
Air Quality Reference Centre – moved to the Marczell György Main Observatory– in May 2014 the re-accreditation process finished – finalized two projects: Swiss Contribution Programme and Environment and Energy Operative Programme
Air Quality Modeling Contribution of the transboundary sources to the Hungarian PM pollution level (supported by Ministry of Agriculture)
Greenhouse Gas Inventory– CO2, CH4, N2O, F-gas emissions and removals since 2007 – SO2, NOx, VOC, NH3, CO, PM, Heavy Metals, POPs since 2012
