Alapad Hill and Rock FormationUyugan, Batan Island, BatanesJo Hanzelle Tadlas BSFTII
Uyugan(South Batan)BATANESWHAT IS BATANES?Batanes is a province made up of ten islands in Luzon.
Out of these islands, only the three largest are inhabited, Itbayat, Batan, Sabtang.WHAT IS BATANES?It is also a protected seascape and landscape by the DENR because of plant and animal exploitation.
Batanes was formed when Mt. Iraya erupted in 1454.HOW WAS IT FORMED?
During this eruption, Mt. Iraya Volcano spewed volcanic ash through the air.7
After eruption, the lava or molten rock hardened and a thick layer of lava rock was formed.
Ash also fell on the hardened lava, forming a layer of ash.
When it rained, the ash layer mixed with the water, forming black colored water.
Batanes experiences winter, causing the black water to freeze and the lava rock to crumble and erode into a hill.
Continuous weathering and erosion made the Alapad Hill and Rock Formation to be what it is today.
