Mamta Bhargava, wife of late Arvind Bhargava, and director of the Alankar School of Music will present a program along with her students, that will celebrate the life of Mahatma Gandhi and pay homage to the freedom fighters of the Indian independence movement. Subhadra Kumari Chauhan, Mamta Bhargava’s mother, worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi and joined his non-cooperation movement against British rule. Her popular Hindi poems such as Jhansi Ki Rani, Jallianwala Bagh, Veeron Ka Kaisa Ho Basant, Rakhi Ki Chunauti, and Vida inspired many Indian youths to participate in the Indian freedom movement, and one of the poems will be featured in this program.

October 2, 2019 marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known in India as Mahatma or the great soul and endearingly as Bapu or father. He is considered Father of the Nation as he was one of the major figures of the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule leading India to independence through nonviolent civil disobedience.
