The Context: Why We’re Here…• New Energy Code (IECC 2009) Became Effective April 1st, 2010.
• Assurance from Governor John Lynch that NH would achieve 90% compliance of the 2009 IECC within eight years (“hence the NH Energy Code CHALLENGE”) – linked to NH receiving $26M in ARRA-State Energy Program funds.
• 90% Statewide Compliance with the Energy Code is no small task… But Education and Training is the first Step (so thanks for being here – as the success of this important goal will depend on everyone in this room!)

NH Building Code Compliance ProgramToday’s Training is one piece of a larger strategy of reaching the 90% compliance goal.
2009 IECC - 90% compliance by 2017 – Overall Strategy• Establish a baseline of existing compliance/enforcement
• Create a roadmap to achieve 90% compliance of the 2009 IECC by 2017
• Promote the program throughout the State
• Train and Mobilize building professionals in all areas for energy code compliance and promote above-code performance (why we’re here today)
• Develop a Public Awareness Campaign for homeowners, landlords, commercial property owners, real estate appraisers
• Update and Gather Building Code Resources in publicly accessible sites
• Develop recommended enforcement and compliance public policy option
More info on the program can be found at www.nhenergycode.com6

1. Help ensure safe, durable structures
2. Help create a “level playing field”
3. Help reduce energy use and emissions
4. Help reduce builder liability
