    What is LIDAR

    LIDAR

(Light Detection And Ranging) is an opticalremote sensing technology that measures

properties of scattered light to find range and/orother information of a distant target.

Application of LIDAR system are diffused indifferent technology: topography, remote sensing,

    atmospheric physics, etc

    LIDAR group in Naples

The University of Naples as unit of CNISM1 and theCNR2 labs in Napoli, Italy, can boast a powerfultradition in LIDAR methodologies research andapplication During the last 20 years, the joined groups realized different LIDAR

    instruments for research purposes.

Success in related research topics is confirmed by differentpublications, financed research projects, measurements campaigns

in collaboration with atmospheric research institution all over theword.

Dr. Wang Xuan and prof.N.Spinelli collaborate on this field since1990

    A new synergy - ALA

LIDAR research is now ready for real world applications. Anew company (ALA) has born as spin-off of these researchactivities joining different capabilities.

ALA srl has the task to realize an effective and strongcollaboration among research groups and a SME Associates:

Researchers from University of Naples and CNR Dr. . Wang Xuan and prof.N.Spinelli

    SME PROMETE Dr.V.Tontodonato

SME - PROMETE srl, is a company devoted to technology

transfer activitiesDr. V.Tontodonato member of PROMETE will be charged as thefuture CEO of the new company ALADr.V.Tontodonato has 20-year experience in system integration, development of customized instruments, remote control applicationsand signal analysis

    LIDAR BF - patent

Dr Wang Xuan and prof.N.Spinelli recentlypatented a new LIDAR technology for dust aswell as small particles (< PM0.1) monitoring in alarge area with unrivaled features in terms of time

resolution and spatial distribution This new (no other similar product can be actually

found) LIDAR system can be applied in differentsituation.

In particular Particle pollution monitoring in industrial areas

Dust and PM assessment in urban areas

ALA reached an agreement to exploit this patent

Key features of LIDAR BF compared toother products

large areas monitoring in real time

higher spatial and time resolution (with respectto single point monitoring system)

eye-safe (other LIDAR system are usually noneye-safe and cannot be used in a open

environment without a strict control) night and day operations

no high power laser systems needed (i.e.minor costs, smaller size, easier operations)

    The market for LIDAR BF

To monitor air pollution level is nowadays a majorconcern of local and national institutions mainly topreserve citizens quality of life and health.

Different factors can boost the market for LIDAR BFall over the world:

Current and future status of government regulations

    Actual emission levels

Comparison with other methods for measurement ofpollutants

    Affordable cost of the system

    The market for LIDAR BF

Mass particulate monitoring will experiencedouble-digit growth worldwide

Over the next five years more countries will

turn to mass monitoring to replace thepresent opacity systems. Opacity monitorshave long served to provide rough indicationsof particulate emissions. But with the tight

limits now place on emitters, particlemonitors provide the only solution foraccurate measurement.
