Al Salam International Hospital was established in 1964 as a maternity hospital with 10 beds, one doctor and five nurses. Since then, the hospital was growing in terms of size and employees due to its reputation as being one of the leading private hospitals in Kuwait. And in May1992 Al Salam Hospital expanded its services and completed it to become a general hospital.

Today Al Salam International Hospital includes 184 beds, and offers health care services for all of maternity, gynecology, general surgery, pediatrics, and intensive care, as part of its dedication to its slogan ‘Excellence in Patient

Care’ and benefiting of the Qumentum Accreditation Canada in improving the performance as a way of achieving the organization mission and vision. It always aims to acquire the latest modern technology tools, and to hire highly qualified and trained staff of doctors, nurses and administrative team, in addition to offering the continues learning program to match with the practices that are based on conventional evidences.

The hospital hosted students from various schools such as the Kuwait English School, Oxford Academy, Future Bilingual School & Canadian Bilingual School in addition to visiting the students in their Schools. Furthermore, we also held a group of entertaining activities for

the children that are directly related to health education, such as distributing a coloring book that includes healthy related image, and the ‘Little Doctor’ toy set.

In order to raise awareness among today’s children, we hold awareness lectures for students in different schools on all issues related to their health. We also provide useful health courses on nutrition, dental care, puberty, and

the dangers of smoking. The schools where we held lectures are: the American Baccalaureate School, Oxford Academy, and Al Bayan Bilingual School.

As part of our awareness and dental care programs especially for the future generation, we held an awareness lecture about dental care at the Oxford Academy. During this lecture, our specialist Dr. Salam Saleh provided

necessary awareness and important advices for the participating students on systematic preserving healthy and beautiful teeth.

Breast cancer is the most popular cancer among women around the world as well as in Kuwait and the GCC countries. It presents around 24% of all kinds of cancers among women. This is the reason behind holding many awareness activities on cancer around the world during the whole year. From our side we also participate through spreading awareness campaigns and presenting lectures for women in order to raise their knowledge about preventing or dealing with various kinds of cancers through complete

programs for various breast checking through using accurate machines during the whole month of October. In addition our specialists presented very successful awareness lectures on breast cancer and cervix cancer.

As part of our celebration of the World Diabetes Day we held an open day in cooperation with the Kuwait Finance House, during which our medical team provide medical checking for all the employees at Baytak Tower. We also

distributed brochures about this disease, and the medical team answered the questions of the present employees on the prevention of diabetes.

On March of every year, we participated in the big annual celebrations to award the ideal mothers as an appreciation for their great care of their families. This year we participated in the awarding ceremony of the ideal mother in cooperation with the Society of Ideal Family

held under the patronage of Sheikha Fareeha Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. During this event we presented various prizes and the full medical checkup for the ideal mothers.

As part of our activity that aims to raise medical awareness among pregnant women, we held educational courses for new mothers, in order to prepare them physically and mentally for the most beautiful moments in life. The courses included useful medical information and healthy nutrition program for pregnant women and newborn babies, in addition to holding sports and exercises program in which the

attendees have participated, also the medical team answered their questions.We have also organized educational course on natural breastfeeding along with visiting the mothers in their houses after giving birth to educate them about the importance of breastfeeding and its special techniques.

As for SIH’s role in enhancing the care and safety of your precious infants, babies, and all the members of the family, we give a chance to the community to gain knowledge on how to deal with any sudden circumstances that may occur, such as a choking incidence or a cardiac arrest, through First Aid and CPR courses. Throughout 2014 / 2015, we have conducted CPR and First Aid teaching campaigns. Regular training sessions were scheduled all over the year in which the candidates registered

through the SIH website. Since we began the

national campaign «Bring A Heart Back To Life»

and «The Heart Saver, First Aid & CPR» in 2011

at Al Salam Hospital in corporation with KFH,

over 800 candidates have joined our CPR and

First Aid courses, which we of course consider

Our health educational activities have vary in 2014 & 2015, and all aimed to enhance health education of everybody, so we continued in holding various educational courses in the field of first aid to teach the participants the principles and basics of first aid and provide

them with necessary knowledge skills to face the emergency problems professionally, such as choking, heart attacks, or fractures from all kinds.

In order to preserve the health and safety of those working with radiations, as well as ensuring the safety of patients who are treated with radiation, the Hospital held on three days; a serial of awareness lectures with CME points on the danger and harmful effects of

radiations, and the ways of its treatment and prevention. This was supervised by Dr. Salwa Haidar, Manager of the radiology department at the hospital.

We participated in the nuclear medicine lec-ture, during which speakers from the Ministry of Health addressed an awareness lectures on

the importance of nuclear medicine and its role in diagnosing many diseases.

surgeries at the College of Social SciencesAs a part of our social responsibility that aims to raise awareness inside the community and educate people, we sponsored a cultural activity at the College of Social Sciences in cooperation with the Society Service Center and Continues Learning of the Kuwait University on obesity diseases. titled; ‘Diet Rumors and Sleeve Gastronomy’ at the International Hall in the College of Social Sciences in Shuweikh, which was attended by large number of students, teachers, and those interested in obesity diseases in Kuwait.

• Awareness lecture on healthy eating during RamadanDuring two days we held an awareness lecture on healthy eating during the holy month of Ramadan, which was addressed by nutritionistMariam Al-Turki at the Kout Mall. During this lecture she discussed the benefitsof fasting for the body and its positive effect on many health conditions. During the two lectures she also discussed the rules of long fasting

without getting tired, and the importance of eating light ‘Iftar’ that includes the necessary food, as well as decreasing the consumption of the common dishes that we usually eat in Ramadan such as sweets and beverages.

• Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign in Gulf University for Science & TechnologyAs part of our awareness activities on prostate cancer we participated as platinum sponsor for the prostate cancer campaign organized by the Gulf University for Sciences and Technology. In this campaign we participated with various awareness activities including workshops, and distributing brochures. Also through our special booth we provided free medical tests

for the students, in addition to an awareness lecture titled “How to Protect our Society from Prostate Cancer”, which was addressed byDr. Alaa’ Abdulmaqsoud, Consultant of Urology at the Hospital.

At the end of the year we participated in the evacuation plan organized in cooperation with the Kuwaiti government and the Ministry of Health to enhance the necessary preparations and needs in facing emergency. The security

and safety staff of the hospital executed the evacuation plan in coordination with the Fire Department and the National Guard.

In order to raise awareness on general safety in community, we at Al Salam Hospital hold an annual celebration of the Safety Week in September. This week encourages educating public about the safety rules and procedures, holding training courses on safety, holding art contests, and competing on inventing an idea for a video clip on emergency. The Safety Week concludes with the big safety day and awarding the winner.

During the Safety Week we hold a whole day for community awareness and offering free services, such as blood pressure tests, checkups on sugar percentage in blood, presenting nutrition consultation, information on medicines, and general medical consultation.

Al Salam International Hospital not only organizes this week during the year, thus there are many other safety campaigns. For instance we hold the ‘Hands Hygiene’ campaign in May, ‘For a Life without Smoking’ campaign

in March, as well as organizing campaigns for safety driving ‘Seat Belt’.The pill reminder as well plays an important role in safety, This we applied this year to be distributed to patients.

During 2014 & 2015 we organized special awareness campaigns to educate people on the importance of the full medical checking, which is important to do on regular basis to ensure the wellness of their organs, with the option of early detection tests of diseases, which simplifies its curing faster. As the national celebrations in Kuwait is an exceptional occasion, we offer special

promotions on the full medical checking on discounted price, in order to encourage all categories to do the necessary checking to prevent diseases. We are keen to offer this promotion every year due to its great success that is reflected in the high and repeated demand on this promotion for thewhole year.

Since we were founded we ensured employing the best technical staff at Al Salam International Hospital, who always participate in acheivning our goals and our health and development

message, so we have participated in the Nursing Exhibition.

We participated in the Fourth Arab Obesity Conference organized by the Public Authority for Applied Education at the Regency Hotel, on which many experts on obesity from the GCC countries have participated. Al Salam International Hospital provided its health services for the attendees of this conference through its booth that was present during all days of the conference.

Our booth provided medical checking for diabetes, hypertension, and body index. We also distributed awareness brochures on obesity that included information about healthy food and the importance of sports to beat overweight.

In order to spread knowledge in community, we organized many TV and radio interviews with our physicians. The doctors of Al Salam International Hospital participated in various shows such as (Sabah Al Watan), (Baitak) show on KTV, (masai’) on Rai TV, and many others. During the whole year of 2014 & 2015

they provided medical advices and health information in many specialized fields to reach the largest category of people, in order to increase their knowledge about prevention and treatment in all medical issues.
