Art of Creative ThinkingIn Problem-SolvingCreative thinking leads to new solutions and methods bringing improvements in processes, new products & services and value additions in all spheres of life. Creativity and thinking are skills that can be learned and taught with the help of techniques prescribed by the well-known guru, Dr. Edward de Bono. His advice is as follows:

We must have a positive approach in looking for the solution, since if there is a problem, it must have a solution.

When we think, we should try to come out from the influence of dominant ideas, which are already registered in our minds.

This means that we should look outside the traditional source of thinking.

Understand that creativity and intelligence are not exactly the same. One doesn’t need a high level of I.Q., to learn the expertise; even a person with average intelligence can develop the thinking skills.

Keep an open mind and avoid self-imposed conditions, while thinking over something or solving problems.

We must not scorn ideas given by children or people of limited intelligence. Their simple input may yield invaluable solutions.

To develop the skill of thinking we may imagine any object, e.g. a piece of paper, then think over its maximum utilization in different ways.

Sometimes you can get a solution which may be contrary to our initial thought, like in case of water shortage problem; we may consider decrease in consumption, instead of increasing the supply.

Recognize provocative operation, which allows us to put forward an idea.

Sukkur IBA has awarded Muhammad Fahim Qasmi a Gold Medal in MBA (Banking & Finance) at its first convocation held on 15th March 2014. Muhammad Fahim Qasmi started out as MTO of 24th Batch and after one year and six months of being part of Main Branch, Export Department, has managed to cross a major milestone in his academic career. Let’s wish him best of luck!

(Excerpted from a course in Creative Problem-Solving by Edward de Bono)

Do you feel lucky? Here's a clear-cut approach for improving your luck today.1. Play to your strengths.2. Prepare in advance.3. Start early.4. Connect with as many people as possible.5. Follow up.

ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET AND EXTERNAL EMAIL LAUNCHED!

The joint project of the Lotus Notes team and Information Security Department to develop the online application system for Internet and External Email has been successfullycompleted. This Lotus Notes based workflow system uses the Approval Levels similar to the Attendance system, and is accessible from the “Public Folders” on the Home Page.

In addition to enabling convenient maintenance of applications and approvals, an important benefit of this online system is the huge savings in terms of both senior level management time and the printing and other costs associated with paper forms. Now users can easily complete these online forms as per their business requirements, and the requests will automatically and promptly be delivered to the relevant managers for review and necessary recommendations/authorizations, before being submitted to Information Security Department for security evaluation, approval and completing of the requests.

New Hirings in March - April 2014

Pakistan’s household consumption is 82.5% of gross domestic product (GDP), the highest in the region. The ratio stands at 60.2% for India, 76.8% for Bangladesh, 63.3% for Vietnam, 47.4% for Nigeria and 48.9% for Malaysia, the report said.

Pakistan ranks fourth in developing Asia after China, India and Indonesia in absolute middle-class population, the report said, quoting the Asian Development Bank. Its per capita income reached $1,368 at the end of financial year 2012-13, showing 10-year (2004 to 2013) of 8.9%.

“Reasonable population base and its above-average growth fuel consumerism and provide an ideal ground for FMCGs to grow,” the report said.

The country’s $491 billion GDP – in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) – is ranked 26th in the world. It forms the world’s sixth largest population base. Of its 184 million people, 55% are below 25 years of age – the population growth is one of the highest in the region.

Among other factors driving this growth is the increasing literacy rate and inclination of women to work, which is scaling up from poor to the middle class.

Rising remittances is another reason for massive growth in consumption, which is increasing purchasing power and living standards, especially in rural areas. In the last five years, the remittances grew 16.6%.
