Exploring the manyfacets of public relations
When you finish changing, you arefinished. Those words are printedon a large button I found in theUniversity of Pennsylvania Alumni
Center when I returned in May for aclass reunion. And they describeperfectly how our firm is changing toprepare for the future.
On July 1, I named Chris Lukach aspresident of Anne Klein Communica-tions Group. We have beenanticipating this day for a long time,and I am so happy to tell everyone thegood news.
To fill Chriss former role as seniorvice president and chief operatingofficer, I am pleased to announce
Mike Gross has returned to the firmto work side-by-side with Chris.There is no doubt the legacy of thisfirm is in capable hands.
We want to wish Beth Archer, vicepresident, the best of luck and muchhappiness as she moves with herfamily to Houston, Texas, where herhusband will be the new widereceivers football coach at Sam

Chris Lukach andMike Gross to Lead AKCG
Chris Lukach becamepresident of Anne KleinCommunications Group on
July 1. He moves to thispost after serving as seniorvice president and chiefoperating officer the pastthree years. Rejoining thefirm as senior vice
president and chief operat-ing officer is Michael S.Gross, a former vice
president of the firm.
Founder Anne Klein willremain an active member ofthe firm to provide strategiccounseling to clients, as well
as to offer marketing and new businessdevelopment support. Executive vice
president and chief technology officer,Jerry Klein will continue in his roleoverseeing the business aspects ofAKCG. Beth Archer, vice president, will
be moving with her family to Houston,Texas. Beth will continue with the firmas a senior counselor.
Chris leads the AKCG issues and crisiscommunications practice. He has beeninstrumental in developing issues/crisiscommunications plans and consulting
with clients in the higher education,healthcare, chemical manufacturing andfinancial industries. Chris also heads thefirms spokesperson training team.
Chris was named bySouth Jersey Bizmagazine to its 2012 list of 20 under40 leaders. He is a former president andchairman of the Philadelphia PublicRelations Association and is anaccredited member of the PublicRelations Society of America. Chris is amagna cum laudegraduate of RowanUniversity.
Prior to returning to the firm, Mike wassenior vice president of a suburbanPhiladelphia public relations firm wherehe led robust integrated communications
programs for a variety of clients. Mikewas responsible for maintaining clientrelationships and for developing newstrategies for each of the firms clients.He served clients in the energy,
pharmacy, hospitality, publishing andbanking industries. At AKCG, Mikemanaged key accounts in the financial,healthcare and chemical industries,
providing strategic planning, issuescounseling and media relations.
Mike is a past president of thePhiladelphia chapter of the PublicRelations Society of America and is a
board member of the Philadelphia SportsWriters Association. He is also theassistant director of public affairs for theCivil Air Patrols New Jersey Wing,where he volunteers his time andexpertise. Mike received his Bachelor ofArts degree from Rowan University.

Anne to receive Brava! Award from smartceo magazine

business leaders. Brava winners possessthe utmost qualities in a leader vision,
passion, compassion, dedication, perse-verance. Every one of this yearswinners exhibits these qualities inrunning their business, their families andtheir philanthropic activities. They give110 percent of themselves, said RickCrane, regional president of SmartCEOMedia.
Welcome, DarrahDarrah Foster has joined the firm as a
senior associate. Prior to joining AKCG,Darrah was the marketing and publicrelations coordinator at IndependenceSeaport Museum in Philadelphia whereshe gained valuable experience in event
planning, website maintenance and socialmedia management. Darrah graduatedcum laudefrom Rowan University whereshe earned joint Bachelor of Arts degreesin public relations and journalism.

Chris Lukach spoke at The PeaceChurchs Compliance Program RiskManagement Conference in King ofPrussia in May. Throughout three
presentations, Chris detailed crisis
communication essentials, the fundamen-tals of spokesperson training andnavigating social media during a crisis.Chris explained that crises can beanticipated, and, through effective
planning and training, the employees ateach members facilities can help ensuretheir organization avoids potentialdamage to public perception. Chris also
provided attendees with sampledocuments of a crisis plan, ways to avoidsaying no comment and tips in
planning for a social media crisis.
PPRA ChairsSenior associates Kathryn Conda and
Darrah Foster will both hold positions ascommittee chairs on the board of the
Philadelphia Public RelationsAssociation. Kathryn will chair theMentorship Program to connect fledgling
professionals with seasoned industrypractitioners. Darrah has joined themembership committee as theRecruitment and Retention chair and willwork to recruit young professionals andcollege graduates.
AKCG andNew Jersey AmericanWaterclaimed an Honorable Mentionat the Public Relations Society ofAmerica New Jersey Chapters PyramidAwards for Water Basics, a 32-pagerichly illustrated book commissioned bythe company . The book was designed in2013 to educate key stakeholders abouthow water travels from its original sourcein nature (a river, lake, reservoir oraquifer) to New Jersey American Watercustomers. Water Basics continues toserve as an important tool to educateresidents about the importance of main-taining water infrastructure, as well ashelping consumers understand theimportance of water conservation.
When a regional health insurance firmneeded a strategic partner to fill in for itscommunications manager while she wason maternity leave, it called on AnneKlein Communications Group to help.The AKCG team is providing mediarelations strategy, counsel and executionfor the next several months.
The AKCG team recently trainedspokespersons atCPI CompaniesandLehigh Valley Health Networkregarding how to use key messageseffectively to ensure they get the mostout of media interviews. Participants left
both training sessions confident theycould manage this highly important
business exchange well.

Mercy LIFE Celebrates Valley View Grand Opening
Despite persistent rain clouds, the sunshone brightly on May 21, when AKCGclientMercy LIFEcelebrated the
long-anticipated grand opening of ValleyView, a first-of-its-kind PACE (Programof All-inclusive Care for the Elderly)
program serving residential Deaf andBlind seniors in Delaware County, Pa.
AKCG VP Beth Archer and SeniorAssociates Kathryn Conda and DarrahFoster were on hand for the celebratoryribbon cutting ceremony, which featuredremarks from Mercy Health SystemInterim President Susan Croushore andMercy LIFE and Mercy Home HealthCEO Carol Quinn.
The new Valley View facility, in Elwyn,Pa., expands access to quality healthcareand adult day program services toresidents. Both the residents and many ofthe staff are deaf and communicate viaAmerican Sign Language (ASL).
The afternoon included a blessingceremony, honoring Mercys richCatholic healthcare ministry heritage.Speakers included PennsylvaniaDepartment of Public Welfare DeputySecretary Bonnie Rose, Pennsylvania
Society for the Advancement of the DeafPresident Jeffrey Yockey and DelawareCounty Office of Services for the AgingDirector Denise Stewart.
Mercy LIFE has enjoyed a successful
expansion in Delaware County over thelast 12 months. The AKCG team isexcited to help continue the expansioneffort through publicity and targetedcommunity outreach as the nationallyrecognized PACE organization grows inDelaware County in the coming year.
As theMid-Atlantic Dairy Associa-tioncontinues to promote the health
benefits of milk throughout the region,AKCG worked to place a three-pagearticle, Milk: The New ProtectiveSuperfood in the May edition ofB
Magazine. The story highlighted severalcommon health issues for baby boomers
including high blood pressure andmetabolic syndrome that the calciumand other nutrients in milk can combat aswe age. Also, keep an eye onCBS3andCWPhilly to check out your favoriteanchors and reporters sporting their milkmustaches and enjoying their favoriteflavors plain, chocolate and strawberry!
AKCG assisted thePhiladelphia-basedSociety for Industrialand Applied Mathe-maticswith the
promotion of the ninthannual Moodys MegaMath Challenge inApril. The event, whichtakes place at MoodysFoundation headquartersin Manhattan, featured sixfinalist high school teamsfrom across the nation,defending mathematicsmodels and competing for scholarship
money. Through AKCG's efforts, manyof the brilliant high schoolers werefeatured on their local news stationsthroughout the nation.
TheOccupational Training Center ofBurlington County(N.J.) has been
providing opportunities for residents toreach their highest potential for 50 years,and this spring local media took notice.In March, theBurlington County Times
published a major story featuringJonathan Wynn, a standout program
participant with enviable art talent. In
April, Fox 29aired ahealth story spotlightingJonathans journey to theOTC and helped promotehis art, which is availablefor purchase at theMarlton, N.J., AdultTraining Center. In June,the MedfordCentral
Recordpublished a storyabout Kyle Pattanite, aninspiring Tabernacleresident whos found apurposeful life with thehelp of the OTC.
