R&D Grants: International Nuclis Programme

• The International Grants Programme Nuclis offers financial support to Catalancompanies with International technological cooperation projects.

• It allows international firms and technological centres to cooperate with localCatalan companies to undertake high impact and differential R&D projectstogether.

• ACCIÓ has established collaboration agreements with different countries andregions, with the aim to foster technological cooperation. Among thesecountries are: Israel, Germany, France, Israel, Xile, Canada.

• The Nuclis Programme was first launched in 2012, with an Israel-Catalonia call.In the following years other countries have been included in the scheme.

• In the past, some calls have been co-funded by the European RegionalDevelopment Fund.

1. Project’s minimum budget: 150,000 euros

2. Direct and non-refundable grant of up to 200,000 euros

3. Grant intensity: up to 25-70%, depending on the company’s size and the nature of its activities

4. No company shall support more than 70% of the project’s budget

5. Projects shall not start before the application form is officially submitted

6. Projects framed within RIS3CAT sectors and defined KET

7. The Catalan part of the projects must be developed in Catalonia

8. One-phase application process: The entities shall present different application forms in their country, together with the International Project Report (Joint Project Proposal)

9. ACCIÓ will award grants even when the agency providing funds in the country of the foreign partners does not approve the grant.

Collaborative project regulated by a consortium agreement. Minimum of 2 unrelatedentities (1 with its operative base in Catalonia + an international one)

• Must include every partner’s role.

• Agreement about IPR.

Project: V2X: Platform with integrated antennas

Budget: €410,000; Grant ACCIO: €143,298.89

Partners: • Advanced Automotive Antennas (Catalonia) – communications and navigation in the automotive, aeronautics,

defence and security sectors• Autotalks (Israel) – fabless semiconductor company devoted to vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications in

autonomous driving

Project objective: To develop a V2X platform (communication vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure) that allows to create a network of interconnected vehicles with the ability to be mass-produced and integrated into most vehicles (new or not). A system with an integrated antenna and platform, provides higher performance and dramatically reduces the final manufacturing cost of the device.

Results:

• Development of a V2X platform that can be produced industrially in the automotive sector.

• V2X system with a fully integrated antenna that allows a very competitive manufacturing cost while improving reliability and performance of the system as a whole.

• Industrial patent of the developed system.
