Welcome to Ajou University!

On behalf of Ajou University, we wish to extend the warmest welcome to Korea and toAjou University. This handbook, as a reference book, is designed to help you achieveyour goals as international students and to live comfortably in our community. Manypeople find themselves having difficulties when they are in foreign countries away fromhome. We hope that this book helps you adapt yourself to new environments and settledown as soon as possible.

However, we do not expect that you will be able to find an answer from this book toevery possible question you may have. In order to resolve any problem or difficulty youmay have, the Office of International Affairs is here to help you. Ajou University, established in 1973 under the motto of "Asia's bestuniversity for the 21st century", is a leading research university with 9colleges in Korea. Located in Suwon, about 30km south of Seoul, Ajouhas 14,000 students (9,000 undergraduate, 3,500 graduate, and 1,500 inother courses).

The strength in Ajou's academic programs and research lies inEngineering, IT, BT, NT, Medical Science, Business and InternationalStudies. Ajou is widely recognized for its innovative internationalprograms and strong support for international students and hascollaborative partnership with about 275 universities in 62 countries asof February 2015. There are wide ranges of international programs atAjou including student and faculty exchanges, international summerschool, Korean language program, etc. International students are takingcourses offered in English by various majors. Today Ajou is welcomingabout 750 international students every semester.

1.Visa

Every international student should hold D-2(Study) visa duringtheir study. If students enter into Korea with different types ofvisa (i.g. C-3, D-4 etc.), students should change their visa to D-2within 30 days from engaging new activities. (Korean languagestudents: D4 Visa)

Students who don't have D-2 visa or have different visa types shouldinform to the Office of International Affairs immediately and needto be guided properly.

Study and research at educational, academic institutions (college orabove)● A person who wants to study, research or enroll in a full-time program

(i.e. Bachelor's, Master, Ph.D.) at academic institutions(college orhigher) established under either the Higher Education Act or theSpecial Act.

● Students must apply at a Korean diplomatic mission in your country orin areas where your last school is located.

● Students from China, Cuba, Syria, Macedonia and Kosovo need to get acertificate of recognition of visa issuance from the local immigrationoffice in Korea.

● Application for visa can be made to the embassy or the consulate ofthe Republic of Korea after the applicants receive a certificate ofrecognition of visa issuance.

6. Other documents needed according to your program:

A. Bachelor's, Master and Ph.D.- Documents proving the final level of education- Documents proving your financial ability to support

yourself(tuition fee and finance for stay for a year)

B. Exchange Students- Documents proving personal finance for stay(considering the

tuition is paid in the country of origin)- Recommendation letter issued by the head of your university

in your country- Documents proving that you are an exchange student(official

document, student exchange agreement between universities)- Documents proving that you have completed at least one

semester(proof of enrollment issued by your university in yourcountry)

** The chief of mission may ask additional documents in order toexamine the purpose of stay, genuineness of invitation, andqualifications of the inviter and invitee if deemed necessary.

2.Alien Registration

● Students who stay in Korea for more than 90 days MUST apply for theforeign registration within 90 days after entry and then the AlienRegistration Card will be issued.

● Ajou international students are required to apply for the alienregistration within one month after the semester starts.

● The Alien Registration Card must be returned to the ImmigrationOffice when the registered foreigner finally departs from Korea.

● When the following causes arise for foreigners who have registered asforeigners, the changes to the registration details must be reported tothe Immigration Office having the jurisdiction within 14 days from theoccurrence of such causes

3.Extension of Stay

Extension during the regular semester

In case of expiration of permission to stay, students should receivepermission for extension of stay if they desire to stay continuously inKorea.

will be imposed according to the Article 25 of Immigration Act.

- In principle, documented proof of final level of education thatyou submit must be an original version. However, a certifiedreport of degree/diploma marked as 'original' by the person-in-charge of the university is acceptable. Documented proof ofeducation that you requested and received is acceptable onlywithin its validity, which is generally 30 days from the date ofissue and extendable.

- If you are a citizen of one of the 21 designated countries belowor have a degree/an academic certificate of one of thosecountries, you must submit the below A, B or C.

6. Temporary absence from school

Students who are temporary absent from school(휴학) must leave Koreawithin 30 days from the date of absence. If students want tocontinuously stay in Korea, students need to receive permission forchange of proper sojourn status.

When students applied to be temporary absent from school, students'visa will be expired automatically within 30 days from the absence dateregardless of the original expired date of the current visa.

If student who is temporary absent from school keep staying in Koreaafter 30 days, student can be added to the list of illegal immigrants.

In order to enter into Korea after temporary absence from school,students should receive student Visa (D-2) again. In case students keepstaying in Korea with different status permission, students shouldchange visa type to D-2 again for studying. Students in this categoryshould consult with the Office of International Affairs to receive properservice for change.

7. Completion of study & Visa expiration

When students' study has been completed, it will be reported to theimmigration office and students should leave Korea within 30 days fromthe date of completion.

Even the valid period of sojourn is left, it will be expired within 30 daysfrom the date of completion and students should change their Visa forproper status (e.g. employment, language study and etc.) or shouldleave Korea within 30 days.

Korea Immigration Bureau has opened the portal site to provide avariety of useful information with foreigners visiting Korea: HiKorea.

HiKorea, representing e-government of Korea, will function as SPOC(Single point of contact) by offering detailed and digestible informationfor foreigners, including Visa, stay, immigration formalities, investment,employment, living information, and so forth.

For some of immigration services, online application is possible such aspermission for extension of stay, part-time employment, re-entry permit,and etc. Please visit the website for more information. The ATMs installed at banks are generally in operation from 9:00 to23:30. The operating hours may vary from bank to bank, with somebanks' ATMs available 24 hours a day. The operating hours of ATMs insubway stations, convenience stores, and on the street may also vary.ATMs not directly operated by banks, such as the NICE ATMs, maycharge higher transaction fees. Some ATMs do not provide cash service.A growing number of ATMs in Korea do offer foreign language options.

Foreigners who have opened bank accounts will receive ATM cards. Theymay also receive debit cards. However, there are qualifications forobtaining credit cards, although it is not entirely impossible to get one.Those who are interested in obtaining credit cards are advised to go tothe bank on campus.

Up to US$ 20,000 in foreign currency may be remitted per day. OverseasRemittance of the Korean Won Remittance of Korean won exchangedinto foreign currency entails some complicated restrictions. Manyforeigners remit money in the name of a Korean friend or colleague.You can remit Korean won overseas as follows:

Foreigners who have resided in Korea for over five years can freely remit up to$10,000 in Korean won per year, just like Koreans. Any amount over US$ 10,000is reported to the National Tax Service, and you may be required to submitdocumentation to confirm the source of the funds. At the bank, they need to fillin the application form for remittance. They may be requested to present yourpassport and a document that proves your residency in Korea for over five years.

Foreigners who have resided in Korea less than five years can remit theequivalent of up to US$ 10,000 during their stay. If their reentry is confirmed,they may remit up to another US$ 10,000. When remitting funds, they arerequired to show passports.

2. Banking Services

Banks in Korea are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 16:30.They are not open Saturdays, Sundays, or legal holidays. When you visita bank, you must first take a number from the number ticket dispenser.The ticket dispenser is usually located near the entrance of the bank orin the middle of the row of windows. If you cannot find it, you may aska security guard to indicate where it is. Take your number and waituntil it appears on one of LCD displays above the windows. When yournumber appears, go to the window where your number is showing.

Foreigners residing in Korea can open bank accounts just like Koreans.They can open installment savings accounts as well as regular savingsaccounts. They can also buy nearly all types of financial products, butthey may not receive tax credits or buy tax-free products. Whenopening a bank account, you have to show your passport, student cardand alien registration card. The home country ID is not required. You donot need a seal; you can open a bank account with your signature only. Choose a four-digit password, being careful that it is not revealed toothers because banking crime by means of identity theft is increasing.For enhanced security, you may want to change your passwordregularly.

3. Student ID card

This card has a built-in IC chip thatstores and processes informationand can be used for manyfunctions, including as a debitcard, transportation card, aselectronic money, and an entrancecard for library and dormitory.

Functions as a debit card issued by Korea FirstBank, the Smart Card can be used to deposit/withdraw cash and settle other on-line transactionsthrough any CDs or ATMs. It can be also used inforeign countries while traveling or studyingabroad.

This Smart Card provides the same functions as ageneral recharge-type of transportation card. Itcan be recharged at the Seoul transportation cardstations or subway stations and used for the busand subway. There are some other places youcould get a recharge and it will be informed inTransportation at chapter 8.

The Smart Card eradicates students' inconvenienceof presenting their ID cards at every entrance/exitof the Central Library by making the gate systemread the IC chip installed in the Smart Card. It alsoallows students see available seats in the readingrooms and reserve seats electronically.

Students confirm their attendance by simplyputting their Smart Card in the terminal outside ofthe classroom.

The Smart Card allows both entrance and exit outof a building or a place with tight security.

The Smart Card also provides benefits for theInternational Student Card to students planningtrips to study and/or travel overseas whileattending the University. Students receive adiscount on flights, transportation, hotelreservations, insurance, and money exchangebefore leaving the country at domestic travelagencies.

Ajou University requires all international students to purchase insuranceto protect them from unexpected healthcare expenses in the event ofan accident, as well as to manage their health while staying in Korea.Also, all international students are required to be enrolled in aninsurance plan in line with the Korean government's policy of mandatoryhealth insurance for international students. Ajou University has made anarrangement with Seimnuri Insurance Company so that students canquickly and conveniently receive health insurance benefits when theyreceive medical attention at designated medical facilities. If you do notenroll in a plan, you will have difficulty receiving various verificationand certification records from the school and participating in E-classes.So please enroll in an insurance plan.

How to use Wireless Internet on campus Ajou University is to provide 4000 on-campus internet IDs for itsstudents, faculty and staffs on a first come, first served basis. The IDis available for free for up to 6 months, and a user should apply for anew ID after 6 months. Ajou University, a leadingresearch university in Korea,welcomes international exchangestudents or individual applicantsto Ajou International SummerSchool (AISS), a comprehensiveshort-term study abroad packagefor studies, cultural workshop,trips and social activities. It offers a unique opportunity forinternational students to experience Korean culture and tradition whiletaking courses during summer.

AISS is a month-long international summer school in the field of KoreanStudies, Asian studies, International Studies and Business Administrationtaught in English. Not only are classes offered that can be transferredfor credits, but there are also special social and cultural activities,language programs, and other exciting events for students to exploreand learn about Korea and its culture during the summer vacation. Athree-day field trip to Jeju Island (UNESCO Heritage Island in Korea) isoffered free to all participants prior to the official program starts. Thisallows students from all around the world to experience beautifulKorean nature and culture and help participants to build closefriendship. Ajou University Central Library was founded on Mar. 15th 1973 to fulfillour education objectives clearly stated in our school regulations. Ourgoal is to contribute to the students and faculty's studies and research bycollecting, arranging and providing academic information.

● The general studying area is opened for 24 hours day throughout the year and theperiodical room is opened from 09:00~21:00 during weekdays and 09:00~17:00during weekends and vacation.

● At the periodical room, you can read books, journals, and newspapers. You canalso browse the CD-Rom titles and use the internet to search for the informationyou need.

● Stacks are open in the library. If you want to check out a book, find the book inthe stack yourself, go to the clerk at the counter and present your ID card. Toreturn the book, simply bring the book to the checkout counter with your ID card.

● For the students who like to watch movies, DVDs and VHS are ready on the 1st

floor. The Media Circulation desk is on the other side of book circulation desk.● To check out those materials, you should bring your student ID card and exchange

it for a seat number.● These multimedia materials must not be removed from the library. They can be

watched in the extensive multimedia room near the circulation desk, which isfilled with many VCRs and DVD players. You will get your ID card back when youreturn everything borrowed.

4. PC Labs on Campus

There are many PC labs on campus, where you can use the computersfor word processing, internet, and so on. Also, there is a PC LAB in the1st floor of dormitory where you will be placed. The PC labs areprovided with the printer and you are required to bring your paper.

5. Post Office

Letters, registered mail, packages, and postcards can be sent through apostbox or post office. Post boxes have two letter drops. The left one isfor regular mail and the right one is for express mail. Postal charges arefixed by the weight of the mail, and additional handling fees arecharged for sending registered mail. Mail items of considerable volumeor weight surpassing 1200g must be boxed and sent as a package.

The post office can send letters, postcards, or packages overseas.Letters are put in envelopes and classified as ordinary mail. Mail itemsexceeding 2,000g are registered as packages. Items that do not exceed2,000g, but are unsuitable for envelopes, are also registered as smallpackages. Documents and booklets can also be mailed as printedmaterial. Postal charges vary according to the weight of the mail. In addition, Express Mail Service (EMS) is offered at post offices forletters, documents, or packages that must arrive on time. EMS mail isspecially handled according to an agreement concluded by and betweenKorea Post and a reputable foreign mail authority. Postal charges areimposed according to weight.

Ajou International Health Care Center(IHCC) provide total care ofmedical and communication service with multi languages includingEnglish.

For severe health problem or medical check-up, you can go to the AjouUniversity Hospital. We recommend you to visit the Office ofInternational Affairs before you go to the hospital. To go to the hospital,we will make a proper arrangement with the hospital for you.

This heath care center is reserved especially for foreign patients seekingtreatment at the Ajou University Hospital. Situated on the ground floorof the hospital, the center is ready to provide various medical servicesby accommodating patients with spacious office and comfortable snugwaiting area, and assistance for foreign visitors by staff qualified in theEnglish language.

Making a reservation is strongly recommended 1 day in advance via callor a personal visit. You cannot make a reservation on the same date.

1. Korea

The Korean Peninsula is divided between north and south, making Koreaone of the only divided countries in the world. The followinginformation is about the Republic of Korea.

Korea has four distinct seasons, each with their own stunning scenes. Inthe spring, forsythia, cherry blossoms, azaleas and many other flowersare in full bloom; in the summer, vacationers head to the coasts toenjoy time at the beach; autumn brings crimson colors to mountainfoliage, and in the winter, land is covered with a blanket of white snow. The capital of Korea is Seoul, and the government is led by PresidentPark Geun-hye, elected in 2013 as the country's first woman president.

The Korean economy is driven by the manufacturing and exportsincluding ships, automobiles, mobile phones, PCs, TVs, and a wide rangeof other electronics. Korea has enjoyed rapid economic growth thanks inlarge part to its export-focused strategy. In 2013, Korea's GDP wasUSD$1.19 trillion based on IMF statistics.

The nation boasts the world's 15th-largest economy (IMF 2013).Recently, Korean dramas and movies are also widely exported thanks tothe popularity of Korean pop culture. K-pop stars are also active on theworld stage.

The country's population reached 51.20 million in April 2014 (Ministry ofSecurity and Public Administration), with a large proportion living inmajor metropolitan areas. To address congestion in the Seoul and itssatellite cities where around half the country's population resides, theKorean government is relocating many government organizations tolocations outside of the capital city, with the process set to becompleted in 2014.

Koreans officially follow the Gregorian calendar, even though there area few holidays that are based on the lunar calendar. During the officialholidays, offices and banks are closed but palaces, museums, mostrestaurants, department stores, and amusement facilities are open.Seollal and Chuseok are the most important traditional holidays forKoreans, so millions of people visit their hometowns to celebrate withtheir families during these times. On Seollal, Koreans hold a memorialservice for their ancestors and perform sebae, a formal bow of respectto their elders as a New Year's greeting.

● New Year’s Day (January 1)As in other countries, the first day of the New Year is celebrated.

● Lunar New Year’s Day - Seollal (January 30 - February 1 , 2014)Lunar New Year's Day (Seollal) is one of the most important traditionalholidays of the year; the holiday is much more significant thanJanuary 1st. Most businesses are closed, and people take several daysoff from work to visit their hometowns to be with their family. On theday of Seollal, everyone gets up early, puts on their best clothes, andbows to their elders as a reaffirmation of family ties. Feasts are heldwith specially prepared food such asttokguk and manduguk. Peopleplay traditional games, fly kites, or spin tops.

● Independence Movement Day (March 1)This day commemorates the Declaration of Independence proclaimedon March 1, 1919 while under Japanese colonization. A reading of thedeclaration takes place in a special ceremony at Tapgol Park in Seoul,where the document was first read to the public.

● Children’s Day (May 5)On this day, parents dress up their little ones and take them tochildren's parks, amusement parks, zoos, or to the cinema for a fullday of fun and games.

Hangeul - Korea's Official Alphabet

Hangeul (한 ), Korea'sofficial alphabet, wasfirst invented by KingSejong during the JoseonDynasty. Originally calledHunminjeongeum (훈민정음), the language wasconceived in 1443, andfurther promulgated bythe King in 1446. At thetime of its inception, the language consisted of 17 consonants and 11vowels however, since then, 3 of the originally established consonantsand 1 vowel have fallen into disuse bringing the total number ofcharacters to 24. Syllables are formed by the selective combination ofvowels and consonants to create words.

The official name for the Korean language was changed to 'Hangeul' in1910. Hunminjeongeum Proclamation Day was called 'GagyaProclamation Day' up until 1926, and it wasn't until 1928 that it waschanged to its current title, 'Hangeul Proclamation Day'.

The chart below represents the 24 Hangeul characters together withtheir romanized equivalents. 'The Hunminjeongeum', a historicaldocument which provides instructions to educate people on the use ofHangeul, is registered with UNESCO. UNESCO awards a 'King SejongLiteracy Prize', every year in memory of the inventor of Hangeul.

During this time, the country experienceswarm, sunny weather, skies that are cobalt blue and spectacular foliagethat is perhaps the biggest draw. Winters are cold and dry and are agood time to visit if you are interested in winter sports as there arenumerous ski resorts. ● Buddha’s Birthday (May 6, 2014)The 8th day of the 4th lunar month. Elaborate, solemn rituals are heldat many Buddhist temples across the country and lanterns are hung inthe temple courtyards. The Sunday before Buddha's birthday theselanterns are lit and carried in parades in the evening.

● Memorial Day (June 6)Memorial Day is set aside to honor the soldiers and civilians who havegiven their lives for their country. The largest ceremony is held at theNational Cemetery in Seoul.

Chuseok isoften referred to as Korean Thanksgiving Day. It's a celebration of theharvest and thanksgiving for the bounty of the earth. Family memberscome from all over the country to visit their ancestral homes.

● National Foundation Day (October 3)This day commemorates the founding of the Korean nation in 2333B.C. by the legendary god-king Dangun. A simple ceremony is held atan altar on top of Mt. Manisan in Ganghwado Province. The altar issaid to have been erected by Dangun to offer thanks to his father andgrandfather in heaven.

As in all countries, food plays avery important part of Koreanlife. Besides its critical role ineveryday life, food also has amajor role in many events andfestivals. Certain types of foodsor meals are symbolic with achild's first birthday (dol), part ofa marriage ceremony (pyebaek),or ancestral rites (jesa). Certainregions also have foods stronglyassociated with them, such as

Koreans are basically diligent and polite. Having good manners is veryimportant to Koreans, and because of a rich tradition in Confucianism, itis quite common to see young people offer their seats to elders in thesubway or bus. Koreans speak in an honorific tone when addressing an older person andthe younger person is obliged to bow to the older person first unless hewants to be regarded as impolite. Traditionally, Koreans are a people that enjoy songs, dances, anddrinking. They are accustomed to sharing in celebration, so they offereach other drinks, and fill one another's empty glass. 3. Suwon

Suwon is an important Koreandistrict of culture, history, industryland recreation. Physically, Suwonis located mid-south of KyonggiProvince, occupying the central part of the Korean Peninsula. The easiest way to go to a place in Suwon is to take a city bus at the busstop in front of our school. There you can find many city buses whichtake you almost everywhere in Suwon. The fare for a city bus is 1,200Won(With card : 1,100). If you are in hurry, the best way is to take ataxi. You may find taxies in front of Ajou University Hospital. The basictaxi fare is KRW 3,000 up to 1.8 Kilometers. The fare will go updepending on the distance and the time.

● Highway Bus (Coach)The express bus terminal, where you can ride on the Express bus toalmost every part of the country, is located in Suwon. It usually takes25 minutes from our school to bus terminal by city bus.

●TrainThe national railroad has a station in Suwon. It takes 25 minutes bycity bus to reach Suwon Station. You can ride on the school bus or acity bus to the station at the bus-stop in front of the university. At theSuwon station you can get on the trains heading almost every part ofthe country or on the subway that connects to the subway lines inSeoul.

In case, you use a transportation card you can get a little discount. Forconvenience, transportation function is already transplanted in yourstudent ID card. You will see a machine that will count your fare andthe thing you should do is just put your card near that machine. It canbe charged at the convenience stores and every station of subway.

People who travel for a short period of time can use mobile phone rentalservices. It is required to pay a rental fee and a refundable deposit alongwith the actual phone charge. Each and every product sold inKorea includes sales tax in thepurchase price. These taxes arecollected and invested in socialwelfare for Korean residents. Non-residents, or visitors to Korea, maybe eligible for a tax refund onpurchased goods they will take out of the country. Make a purchase of30,000 won or more at a participating retail store. Participating storesare designated by the "Global Blue Tax Free" or "Global Tax Free" logo.Be sure to keep your VAT refund receipt when purchasing items. Youcan get a tax refund at Airports and Seaport terminals after issuing yourboarding pass.

You can refund or exchange all manufactured goods if they are found tobe defective. Korea is a shopper's paradise! Great prices can be found for shoes,clothes, handbags, suitcases, leather goods, silk, antiques,reproductions, and all kinds of souvenirs. You can easily find makers ofcustom-made clothes and shoes of varying quality. Although departmentstores and most shops have fixed prices for items, bargaining can usuallyget a lower price with street vendors and in the major open air marketssuch as Namdaemun and Dongdaemun. However, do not expect thesame level of haggling conditions that exist in Thailand. Some goods sold in Korea have fixed prices; others do not. Largediscount stores and department stores apply fixed prices. 2. Tips for Dining-out in Korea

Dinner in a Korean home or restaurant is quite different from westernstyle dining. Although you can find western food and fast food withoutmuch difficulty, food court is one social area in which Koreans haveremained 'Korean'. All meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are heartyand basically all follow the same pattern. Korean meals are usually notserved one course after another but set with all the dishes at the sametime. With the exception if pricy restaurants, waiters/waitresses usuallydo not lead guests to their seats. When you take an empty table, theywill come to take your order. Basic side dishes can be refilled withoutcharge upon request.

Since it is quite often the case that you are not continuously served bywaiters/waitresses, especially in the small mom and pa’s business kindof restaurants, which you can see a lot around Ajou, you may need tocall the waiter/waitresses out loud to get their attention to be servedby saying some things like 'Sil-re-ham-ni-da(Excuse me)' or'Yeokiyo(Here!)'. Don't get too embarrassed. Tipping is not required.Usually, Koreans don't tip. Tipping is not a part of Korean culture. Inaddition, in Korea, they don't pay additional sales tax. You can keep inmind that it is already included in the price of the food you order. Inmost small restaurants, the bill is paid at the cashier near the door.

It is not uncommon for guests to sit on cushions/floor around a lowtable, which is the traditional way of dining. However, you can findmany restaurants with tables and chairs. Many different foods areserved, usually each cut into bite size pieces. Daehakro is another place where youngpeople can find a lot of fun places. Thisplace is a center of Korean universityculture and is always crowded withcollege students. ● Hwaseong Fortress (화성)

Hwaseong Fortress in Suwondesignated and managed as HistoricSite No. 3 was initiated in January1794 and completed in September1796 during the reign of King Jeongjo,the 2nd King of the Joseon Dynasty.There were originally 48 facilitiesalong the perimeter. Seven facilities have been lost due to war andrapid urbanization, and so only 41 remain today. Hwaseong Fortresshas been proposed as a World Cultural Heritage. It underwent on-siteinspections by UNESCO in April 1997. It was registered by the UNESCOAssembly held in December of 1997.

● Korean Folk Village (한국민속촌)

Located in Yongin City, about a 20-minute-drive for from Suwon City,Korean Folk Village is a place whereyou can explore old Korean lifestyle.Traditional houses from all parts ofKorea are perfectly restored andpreserved so that people can take aclose look and better understand how Korean people lived a long timeago. Not only the houses, but also a variety of events such as a farmband's performance and traditional wedding ceremony attract visitors.

● Ho-Am Art Museum (호암아트홀)

Ho-Am Art Museum exhibits over 1,200Korean works of art which make upthe collections of Mr. Byung-Chull Lee,the founder of Samsung Group. Thismuseum is the largest private museumin Korea and it has beautiful gardensaround the museum as well.


● Everland (에버랜드)

Everland is a theme park where youcan enjoy well-planned amusementfacilities in a spacious area, viewanimals, and see beautiful flora. Thetotal area of Everland is approximatelyten million square meters and theaverage number of visitors per yearcomes is around 9 million. Everland is divided into different theme inKorea: 'Festival World' is a complex of various rides and festivals;'Caribbean Bay' is a water park equipped with world-level poolfacilities; and 'Everland Speedway' was reconstructed from MotorPark, the biggest domestic motor racing complexes. Everland is nowranked 8th among the world's theme parks.

Foreigners who intend to live in Korea for a considerable length of time and who want to makeboth Korean friends and the most of that time by adjusting to the culture will have to work toconverse in Korean. There are textbooks for foreigners learning Korean in major bookstores, aswell as language institutes and universities that offer classes. What follows are commonexpressions used in everyday speech.
