AIX migration from 5.3 to 6.1 in CDT environmentVersion1

Pre-check

1) Please check if the hardware supports the 6.1. It should be minimum a Power4 processor machine.

2) Check for the microcode level of the machine. It should be the latest.3) Collect the system information.4) Ensure the filesets are in consistent level.

instfix -i | grep -i ML & instfix -i | grep -i sp5) Check for the broken filesets, lppchk -vm36) Check for the Emergency fixes, emgr -P, if any remove it with emgr -rL

<Label name>7) Take the latest mksysb backup and sftp it to the nim server – rsmnim03

in the location “/migration-mksysb”8) Ensure there is a minimum of 1GB of free space on rootvg. Also /usr

and /tmp should have sufficient free space.9) Ensure the console is working.10) Perform the alt disk clone of the current status to the other free disk,

‘smitty alt_disk_install’, such that in case of migration failure, we just have to reboot from the clone disk to revert to the previous working state. Let this clone remain for 2 days after migration for safer side.

11) Check with the application team, if the currently running applications would work fine with the 6.1 after the migration is over.

12) Change the bootlist information. Syntax, bootlist -m normal ent0 gateway=0.0.0.0 bserver=10.1.12.1

client=<Client-ip> hdisk0 hdisk1Example,

bootlist -m normal ent0 gateway=0.0.0.0 bserver=10.1.12.1 client=10.1.7.107 hdisk0 hdisk1

Change Procedure

1. The script for starting the migration is on the rsmnim03, in the following location, /resources/scripts/rte/pushclient

2. You get the following screen,

3. Select the 1 and Enter if the server is a CDT server,

4. Enter the following details, Enter the Hostname Enter the Rackname Hit Enter directly when its asking for HMC. It will provide with the full qualified domain, if its correct hit enter, if not

enter the correct domain (To know the domain run nslookup <ip> from the client).

Enter the correct 9.xx.xx.xx ip and enter then select ‘y’ to activate it. Select the zone of the servers. Hit enter, when it asks disks for datavg.

5. Check if the information you have entered in this screen are correct and type ‘y’ and hit enter.

6. Select Nim resource – Option 2,

7. Select install type ( Option 1) RTE Migration ( Option 2 ) Prompted ( Option 1)

8. Select the Option 3 for NIM scripts,

10. Once you hit enter in the above screen, you will get the below screen, select the option 4 for the bundles / fixes

11. On hitting enter you will get the previous menu, Select 2 for specifying the “Resource selection”,

12. Select the required SPOT and the required lpp resource,

Select the bosinst_data as shown above and for image_data hit enter

13. Select the Define/Allocat/Push option ( Option 5 ) here,

14. Typr ‘f ‘ and press and hit enter to begin.

This will begin the reboot of the client from the NIM.15. The nim script will push the image onto the client, it will reboot the client.
