Air Recorder Usage Guide What is Air Recorder? By using Air Recorder with a Roland electronic musical instrument that supports wireless LAN functionality, you can do the following things. Load songs from the music library of your iPhone (or iPod touch) and play them back wirelessly from your electronic musical instrument. Wirelessly record your electronic musical instrument performance on your iPhone. Record sound via the iPhone’s microphone. Play back the recorded data in Air Recorder, or use AudioCopy or Open In... functions to use the recorded data in other apps. Air Recorder Usage Guide

What is Air Recorder?By using Air Recorder with a Roland electronic musical instrument that supports wireless LAN functionality, you can do the following things.

• Load songs from the music library of your iPhone (or iPod touch) and play them back wirelessly from your electronic musical instrument.

• Wirelessly record your electronic musical instrument performance on your iPhone.

• Record sound via the iPhone’s microphone.

• Play back the recorded data in Air Recorder, or use AudioCopy or Open In... functions to use the recorded data in other apps.

Workflow for Using Air Recorder Connect the instrument

Open the “Inst.ConnectionScreen” (p. 5).

Open the “MyLibraryScreen” (p. 6).

From the iPhone music library, load a song into the list. For details, refer to “MyLibraryScreen” (p. 6).

Choose the instrument that you want to connect. For details, refer to “Inst.ConnectionScreen” (p. 5).

Play back a song

In the “MainScreen” (p. 4), touch the play button to play back the song. The main screen will turn green during playback.

Songs with a check mark in the “PLAYLIST” field can be played in the main screen.

Record your performance

Adjust the recording level while you play your instrument. For details, refer to “MainScreen” (p. 4).

Press the [REC] button to start recording. Press the [STOP] button to stop recording. The main screen will turn red during recording.

The recorded performance will be added to the list in “MyLibraryScreen” (p. 6).

The recorded data can be used in other apps by using the AudioCopy or Open In... functions. For details, refer to “MyLibraryScreen” (p. 6).

If you want to record your performance in synchronization with a songIf you turn on the “Sync’edPlayback” setting in the “SettingsScreen” (p. 7), song playback will start when you press the [REC] button.

If you want to record only your instrumental performanceIf you choose “Instrument” as the “RecordingMode” in the “SettingsScreen” (p. 7), only the sounds you play on your instrument will be recorded. Choose “Mix” if you want to record the song playback together with your instrumental performance.

Main ScreenThis is the screen where you’ll record and play back. The screen will be orange while stopped, green while playing back, and red while recording.

Accesses the “Inst.ConnectionScreen” (p. 5).Select the instrument that you want to connect.

Shows the song title.Changes the playback position of the song.

Specifies the song playback speed and pitch.

Starts recording.

Here you can specify how the song(s) will repeat.

Set the volume of the song. This is a convenient way to adjust the balance with the sound of the instrumental performance.

Recording level meter.

Drag the inside of the level meter to adjust the recording level. Adjust the level so that the level meter does not reach MAX. (CLIP) during the loudest passages.

Accesses the “MyLibraryScreen” (p. 6).Select the songs you want to play back.

Return to the preceding song.

Play the song.

Advance to the next song.

Shows the “SettingsScreen” (p. 7). Allows you to specify the recording format and other settings.

To select a song for playback in the main screen, add a check mark in the “PLAYLIST” area of “MyLibraryScreen” (p. 6).

Inst. Connection ScreenHere you can select the instrument to be connected.

Choose the instrument that you want to connect.

If you have more than one instrument with wireless LAN functionality, choose the instrument that you want to connect.

Turn this “ON” to connect the instrument.

Turn this “OFF” if you want to record from the iPhone’s microphone.

If the screen indicates “No instrument found,” check the following pointsPoints to check ReferenceIs the instrument powered-on?Is the wireless USB adapter (WNA1100-RL) connected to the instrument?

Are you using an instrument that supports wireless LAN functionality?

Is the instrument connected to the wireless LAN?

For details on making settings for your instrument, refer to the Roland website (http://www.roland.com/manuals/) g model name (e.g., JUNO-Di) g “AbouttheWirelessLANFunction.”

Are the instrument and the iPhone connected to the same network (the same wireless LAN access point)?Is the wireless LAN access point set to allow communication between wireless LAN devices?

Refer to the owner’s manual of your wireless LAN access point for details on settings.

My Library ScreenHere you can choose the songs that you want to play back.

Songs that have a check mark in the “PLAYLIST” column can be played in the main screen.

Newly recorded files will show the “NEW” icon.

The file name is shown as the date and time of recording, but you can rename the file by long-pressing on the file name area of the desired file.

You can use the following operations for the song that’s selected in the list.

Sort the list.

Choose the items that will appear in the list.

“Music” displays songs loaded from the music library. “Recordedfiles” displays files recorded by Air Recorder.

Load a song from the music library of the iPhone.

What if the screen indicates “The song cannot be loaded because it is protected by DRM”?

*Songs with DRM (Digital Rights Management) cannot be loaded. Songs upgraded to iTunes Plus can be loaded.

Playback.

AudioCopy the recorded audio. This data can be pasted into an app that supports AudioPaste.

*AudioCopy cannot be used if the recording format (p. 7) is AAC.

Applies the Open In... operation to the recorded audio file. A list of apps that support WAV or AAC formats will appear, allowing you to export the audio file.Deletes the selected song or recorded audio file from the list.

Use this to return to the “MainScreen” (p. 4).

*AudioCopy and Open In... can only be used on a recorded file.

Settings ScreenHere you can specify settings such as the recording format.

If you choose “ON,” playback will start simultaneously with recording.

If you choose “Mix,” the sound of the song being played back will be mixed with the sound of your instrumental performance and recorded.

If you choose “Instrument,” only the instrumental sound you play will be recorded.

*Depending on the instrument you’re using, it might not be possible to choose the recording mode. (The recording mode will be Mix.)

“News” displays the latest information about Air Recorder.“UsageGuide” displays this guide.“AboutThisApp” displays the version of Air Recorder.

Select the format of the recorded data. You can choose WAV (16-bit linear) or AAC (compressed audio).

*If you’re using an iPad2, you can not choose AAC.

Maximum recording timeUp to 2 GB or approx. 24 hours can be recorded in one file.
