Effective air defense is based on integration and coordinated use of airborne and/or ground based active and passive sensors, command control centers and weapons of various types. The air defense network usually includes the surveillance and control of the protected airspace, projection of airpower for air defense missions, wide area air defense at medium and high altitude and site point air defense, covering medium and low altitudes. Each of these elements utilize weapon systems, sensors and command control assets designed to meet the specific tactical scenarios.
A typical air defense system is comprised of sensors to detect and track threats, Command & Control (C2) systems which process information for decision-making, as well as gun and

missile systems to engage and destroy the threats. ASELSAN’s Networked Air Defense System based on the layered air defense concept tightly integrates the sensors, C2 and weapon (missile/gun) systems for enhanced awareness, responsiveness and precision. In addition to the existing products, ASELSAN is engaged in development programs for Very Short Range (VSHORAD), Short Range (SHORA) and Medium Range Air Defense Systems.ASELSAN provides state of the art solutions that benefit from existing ASELSAN technology and know how in air defense:

Maintaining a wide array of long, medium and short range sensors, networked to form a comprehensive and identified real-time integrated air picture that displays precisely the locations and movements of friendly and enemy aircraft, significantly enhances the awareness of the air defense system.
Networking various sensors, C2 and weapon systems enhance the robustness and survivability of the overall air defense system. With networking, the degradation of any single sensor, C2 and/or weapon system will have minimal impact on the entire system as there are several other sensors, C2 and/or weapon systems that will continue to function.
Remote weapon display networks the sensors, C2 and weapon systems, enabling rapid and seamless dissemination of information to all parties within the air defense system. This enhances the responsiveness of the entire air defense system.
ASELSAN provides the necessary integrated logistic support throughout the entire life-cycle of the system.

Electro-optic sensors provide PMADS to detect, track, recognize and identify the target. The primary sensor of the system providing target detection, tracking, recognition and identification is thermal camera. As a secondary sensor, a wide field of view TV camera with zoom capability is included. Electro-optical sensors are mounted on the elevation platform and are bore-sighted with the launchers and the machine gun. Laser range finder provides target range information for effective use of weapon range.

AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM SOLUTION
SPMADS is a fully automated air defense missile firing unit for very short range air defense against fixed and rotary wing aircrafts, unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles.
PMADS is used either in autonomous or coordinated modes whether the carrier platform is stationary or mobile. In coordinated mode of operation, the target cueing information is received from a C2 center. In autonomous mode, the PMADS crew search and detect the target by using the system’s own surveillance sensors.
In addition to ground based systems ASELSAN offers the lightweight and stabilized Bora Naval Pedestal Mounted Air Defence System for low level air defence of naval platforms such as frigates, corvettes and fast attack boats. The stabilized turret of BORA enables automatic target tracking and firing capabilities without being effected from the disturbances due to the sea conditions and maneuvers of the ship.
BORA can automatically slew to the coordinates pre-assigned by the ship’s combat management system. It can be operated either from its own control unit at the battleship operation and command control center or by the multi purpose operator console of the naval platform. The Fire Control Computer of BORA has a flexible software/hardware infrastructure in order to meet the future mission requirements that may evolve. This flexible infrastructure also enables the integration of different missiles.
