2015WELL EQUIPPED FROM
$19,995*
MODELS EQUIPPED WITH EYESIGHT
We build the Subaru Impreza differently from other compact cars. Why? With the intention that it will be safer, run cleaner, and be more fun to drive. And you can’t do that if you’re just the same. That’s why every 2015 Impreza comes standard with Symmetrical Full-Time All-Wheel Drive. Every Impreza is rated PZEV, which stands for Partial Zero Emission Vehicle, making the Impreza one of the cleanest-running cars on the road. And the 2015 Impreza has an available EyeSight® Advanced Driver Assist System† that helps the Impreza avoid accidents in the fi rst place, leading to an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation‡. We invite you to learn more at ontario.subarudealer.ca.
*MSRP of $19,995 on 2015 Impreza (FF120). MSRP excludes Freight & PDI of $1595. Taxes, license, registration and insurance are extra. $0 security deposit. Model shown is 2015 Impreza 2.0i Limited Package with Technology Option (FF2 LPE) with an MSRP of $29,395. Dealers may sell for less or may have to order or trade. Vehicle shown solely for purposes of illustration, and may not be equipped exactly as shown. See your local Subaru dealer for complete program details. ‡Ratings are awarded by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Please visit www.iihs.org for testing methods. †EyeSight® is a driver-assist system, which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. EyeSight® is not designed as a substitute for due care and attention to the road. The system may not react in every situation. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, weather and road conditions. Finally, even with the advanced technology activated, a driver with good vision and who is paying attention will always be the best safety system. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations. Impreza, Subaru, EyeSight, and SUBARU BOXER are registered trademarks.

Montreal’s TSHU refashions the handkerchief.

When Marion Poirier and Thomas Geissmann visited Geissmann’s elderly uncle in France, he gave them a stack of lovely old handkerchiefs that sparked an idea. The couple now sells their TSHU line – a modern twist on the cotton swatch – through their website and in such fashion- forward shops as Simons. Designed, silkscreened and embroidered in Montreal, the handkerchiefs come in patterns like skulls and bones on pink, a chic grey paisley and a cube motif that recalls Habitat 67. Single-sided versions work best as pocket squares, while double-sided ones make for stylish sandwich wrappers. “When people buy a gift, they like it to be bold,” Poirier says. Eco-bonus: A tree is planted for each TSHU sold.

The owner, Anthony Benda, is committed to serving the best coffee in town. And when it warms up, there are a few tables outside where you can sit and enjoy your espresso. 1 4 3 2 , R U E M A C K A Y
RHONDA What I love about Sam James Coffee Bar – the Path location specifically – is that it’s consistent no matter who’s behind the counter. I seriously cannot pick one favour-ite barista there. And I’m always fascinated by how skilled they are in coffee-foam art. A C C E S S I B L E F R O M U N D E R G R O U N D : S T . I’M AN ANTIQUES AFI-CIONADO. WHERE CAN I LAND A GREAT FIND?
JE ME PASSIONNE POUR LES ANTIQUITÉS. OÙ FAIRE DE BELLES TROUVAILLES ?
MYLÈNE I would recom-mend shopping along Rue Notre-Dame in the Little Burgundy neighbour-hood. Milord Antiquités is a boutique there, which Francis Lord himself opened 25 years ago. His high-quality inven-tory includes fine furni-ture from the 18th to the 20th centuries as well as sculptures, paintings and other rare collectors’ items.
RHONDA If you like mid-century Modern furniture and accesso-ries, Queen West Antique Centre in Parkdale is the place to go. The owners hand-pick pieces that are in great condition. I would highly recommend visit-ing the store frequently as pieces go quickly. W .
WHAT’S THE BEST VENUE TO CATCH SOME EXCITING BANDS?
OÙ ENTENDRE LES MEILLEURS GROUPES MUSICAUX DE LA RELÈVE ?
MYLÈNE Montreal has a vibrant local music scene. If you’re looking for something different, try Les Bobards. Head there on a Tuesday night to listen to the diverse talents of Kalmunity, made up of R&B artists, jazz maestros, DJs and everyone in between. 4 3 2 8 , B O U L . RHONDA The Horseshoe Tavern, which opened in 1947, is legendary in Toronto for live music. It’s an incredible place to see both popular local indie bands and more established acts. Plus, the space itself is intimate and not at all pretentious. 3 7 0 Q U E E N S T . Where to take a break around town.L’échappée belle dans le coin.
Think you’ve got what it takes to pilot the next-gen version of a Boeing 737? At their recently launched AeroSim Experience in Laval, pilots Pierre-Lou Costerg and Dimitri Vachon put you into the hyperrealistic cockpit of a simulator used by pros and as-piring aviators. Run a checklist, confirm your flight plan, choose takeoff and cruising speed and await instructions from ground crew and the control tower. With help from your trained co-pilot, you’ll soon be taking off and spot-ting your home or hotel down below in Montreal, banking back to Trudeau airport for a practice
landing and then jetting off again to Rio, Hong Kong or wherever you please. The flight may be vir-tual, but with photo-quality views out the window, genuine sensa-tions of roll, pitch and yaw, and the roar of jet turbines, you’ll feel like you’re actually flying.
1 1 7 7 , D E S S E R T E N O R D , A U T O R O U T E 4 4 0 , L A V A L , 4 5 0 - 4 9 0 - 1 3 1 6 A E R O S I M E X P E R I E N C E . If your social media strategy needs a reboot, Camp Tech’s Toronto workshops are a data mine of tips, shortcuts and fresh perspectives, for everyone from start-up newbies to e-commerce mavens. There are classes that delve into the ins and outs of Photoshop and WordPress – for e-tailers embarking on the design of a new website – as well as MailChimp, coding and search engine optimization. A recent intro-duction to Google Analytics played to a packed boardroom. Laptops open, campers were able to apply lessons about creating data reports and tracking users on their sites in
real time, with step-by-step guide-lines from a local pro whose clients include Starbucks, Panasonic and Danier. There are 10 to 15 classes a month, and the biggest is capped at 25 students, so you’ll want to register early because these sessions are worth sharing.
, C A M P T E C H . 01 CENTRE ISLANDThe ferry ride in itself is a highlight when you’re spend-ing the weekend with the kids in the city. In nice weath-er you can also rent a bike or check out the beach. It’s like a mini-vacation. 02 THE SPOKE CLUBThere’s always something social happening here, so it’s a great home away from home, especially if you want a nice dinner but don’t want to do the dishes. Plus, it’s the only place in the city that knows how to make a French martini the way I like it. W . , 4 1 6 - 3 6 8 - 8 4 4 8 , T H E S P O K E C L U B . C O M

03 BATA SHOE MUSEUM My grandmother, Sonja Bata, founded this museum. She always said you could learn a lot about a person by looking at their shoes. The collection includes Marilyn Monroe’s pumps and a training boot for the lunar landing. 3 2 7 B L O O R S T . W . , 4 1 6 - 9 7 9 - 7 7 9 9 , B A T A S H O E M U S E U M . 04 PLAYA CABANAMy husband and I come here often enough that the bartender sends over tequila, even on a Monday night. I always order the soft chicken tacos, and my husband gets the burrito. It’s very much the perfect neighbour-hood nook for a quick and easy dinner out. 1 1 1 D U P O N T S T . , 4 1 6 - 9 2 9 - 3 9 1 1 , P L A Y A C A B A N A . C A
05 HOLT RENFREWI like to go to the Bloor Street Holt Renfrew location on my birthday; I get my hair done at the spa and then treat myself to the café! And this spring is an exciting time because Uncrate Africa is launching, with unique finds from around the continent and collaborations with Stella Jean and Dannijo. This is a tranquil place for rehabilitation and for taking your mind off of the chaos. I’ll sometimes even just run in to grab a Belmonte Raw juice. I love the incredible roster of classes: yoga for all levels, meditation and a fu-sion of yoga and Pilates. 8 8 9 Y O N G E S T . , 4 1 6 - 9 2 5 - 7 2 0 6 , 8 8 9 Y O G A . C O M

01 PATRICE PÂTISSIERPatrice Demers is an exceptional pastry chef in the great French tradition. I’m crazy about his kouign-amann, a kind of butter cake, and his banana-caramel cream puff; they’re both classics. On my trips to near-by Atwater Market, I always end up here. , 5 1 4 - 4 3 9 - 5 4 3 4 , P A T R I C E P A T I S S I E R . C A

02 LE SERPENT The latest restaurant from Claude Pelletier and Hubert Marsolais feels like it could be in a New York borough. Kudos to the unusually good art (by painters like Quebec’s Pierre Dorion), and to sommelier Philippe Boisvert’s wine list. 2 5 7 , R U E P R I N C E , 5 1 4 - 3 1 6 - 4 6 6 6 , L E S E R P E N T . 04 MUSÉE D’ART CONTEMPORAIN DE MONTRÉAL The general manager, John Zeppetelli, and I are working hard to shake things up at this museum, which is unique in Canada and every bit as good as the big institutions. It’s still a well-kept secret that deserves a larger audi-ence; we want Montrealers to proudly call it their own. A I N T E - C A T H E R I N E O . , 5 1 4 - 8 4 7 - 6 2 2 6 , M A C M . Wa h l b u rg e rs4 6 B L U E J A Y S W A Y W A H L B U R G E R S . C AThe first Canadian outpost of the fabled burg-er chain by Wahlberg brothers Mark, Paul and Donnie has arrived in town. The restaurant doesn’t have a bad seat in the house, which means you can dig into a bacon, avocado and jalapeno burger while watching the game. The menu also boasts Mark’s favourite turkey burger (with stuffing and orange cranberry sauce), sweet-potato tater tots, a Boston-inspired crispy haddock sandwich and Canadian wine on tap – a winning combina-tion.
