Water SBA Breakout – General Discussion 1

• Mature AIP-5– GWS: improve GCI integration with water service portals– Esri, CNR: Test interoperability of GEO DAB, ArcGIS Online, and

other portals– GeoViQua: Improve user feedback system – GMU: improve drought monitoring

• User Requirements– GWS: gather hydrology community req’ts, apply to portal GUI

design– GeoViQua: improve the capture and application of user feedback

• Use of GCI: New elements, alterations– GWS: make a catalog federation framework with DAB– GWS: simplify registration and discovery processes– GWS: externalize controlled vocabulary server and promote a

standard internationalization SKOS server

Water SBA Breakout – General Discussion 2

• Ministerial Summit demo proposals– Drought scenario– Flood scenario– Biodiversity & human interaction scenario – Crowdsourcing for air quality/health info

• Data Sharing (authentication, licensing, etc)– CUAHSI will host an authentication broker that other GWS

partners can use easily, and that interfaces well with GCI– Esri will improve ArcGIS Online capability to work with GCI,

brokers, and authentication• More in-situ observations

– GWS, CITI-SENSE, MEDINA, GeoViQua • Involvement of Developing Countries / Capacity Building

– GWS, MEDINA

Water SBA Breakout – Scenarios• Overall: Water SBA teams are providing data and model results that could be

valuable to Disaster Management SBA teams and products

• GEOSS Water Services– Flood & drought real-time monitoring, prediction– Catchment or other aggregations of sensors & time series

• GMU– Flooding occurrence and duration; crop loss assessment; insurance rates– Drought monitor

• CITI-SENSE– Crowd-source; air quality reporting; in situ observations

• MEDINA– Posidonia oceanica algae (seagrass) infestation forecast model– Bio / chem / physical inputs– Societal benefits: prediction of seagrass infestation on beaches;

hypoxia potential; fisheries impacts• GeoViQua / MEDINA

– Agriculture and biodiversity / ecosystem sustainability

Water SBA Breakout – Coordination

• Biweekly telecons of all water projects– Coordinate use cases, inputs, outputs– (doodle poll to pick weekday and time)

• GeoViQua twiki registrationhttp://sif.creaf.cat/twiki/bin/view/TWiki/TWikiRegistrationHidden

• AIP_Water email list registration (important!)https://lists.opengeospatial.org/mailman/listinfo/aip_water

• AIP_Plenary email list registration (important!)https://lists.opengeospatial.org/mailman/listinfo/aip_plenary

Define Success (Conclusions)

• How will we know when we’re done? – We can search GEOSS for time series of soil

moisture, precipitation, stream flow and get a federated map of the results
