The overall of this initiative is to strengthen the capacities of Caribbean countries by enhancing knowledge on environmental law, in particular MEA´s, and the commitments contained therein thereby resulting in sound management of the environment and natural resources. More specifically, the initiative will; i. Enhance the capacity of legal drafter in the Caribbean to better understand the environmental principle contained in the various MEA´s as a basis for the drafting of specific national legislation to facilitate their implementation; ii. Develop practical strategies for drafting and transforming the obligations contained in MEA´s into domestic law; iii. Using at least two legislative thematic areas (i.e. biodiversity, coastal zone management et al) of relevance to the Caribbean SIDS, undertake within the context of the Training Course, the drafting of a generic piece of legislation which incorporates the main principles contained the MEA´s relevant to those thematic areas ; and iv. On the basis of the exposure gained in (i) and (ii) above, undertake a specific drafting exercise in at least two of the participating countries in Regional Training Course, with the Trainer taking the lead responsibility at the national level for the drafting to be.
