The role of libraries in modern society

Libraries as:

information providers;

cultural centres;

social space;

facilitators of learning.

Teenagers:

future adult users of libraries;

characterised as one of the most susceptible to the risk of abandoning library services.

Characteristics: responsive, clever, educated, helpful, nice, well-informed, friendly, able to provide information about the respective encyclopaedia or book, polite, acceptable, understanding and knowledgeable

The main associations:

-technologies (Internet access and the availability of one or several computers at the library premises);-information resources (books).

Premises of a library are also important:-comfort;-an easy-to-understand layout;-necessity of a reading room.

LIS practioners and teenagers have a different perception of a modern library.
