AI Traffic INRIX AI Traffic is powered by our newest geospatial engine and uses deep learning to continuously improve and deliver more accurate real-time traffic. The AI models have been trained by trillions of data points collected over the last 15 years: GPS data, embedded sensors, historical weather, traffic profiles, mobile device movement, incident and anomaly detections and other inputs. INRIX AI Traffic leverages advances in artificial intelligence, cloud processing pipelines and cluster computing frameworks enabling INRIX to process data faster and more accurately than ever before. The architecture calculates speeds using continuous learning neural networks, which learn from every data point to constantly improve. Neural networks, a set of algorithms modeled loosely after the human brain, are designed to quickly analyze massive amounts of data to recognize patterns that aid INRIX in producing summary calculations that convey how people and devices are moving. The neural networks are convolutional, meaning that GPS data coming in is fed back through the system after analysis to determine its veracity. As more data is processed, the model gets more accurate. The output is traffic accuracy at 100-meter resolution updated every 30 seconds with near-zero processing time for incoming geospatial data. KEY BENEFITS

INRIX consistently enhances and expands its vast GPS data portfolio. Over the past year alone, INRIX increased incoming data nearly tenfold. The new AI Traffic engine enables us to better utilize our current data as well as data from any new sources we acquire. With this release, our customers will see increases in Real-Time data as a result of efficiency in our ingestion and speed calculation.

Drawing on the most accurate speed data of any traffic solution, INRIX AI Traffic ensures the most accurate speeds and travel times.

2. Most Accurate Speeds and Travel Times

The above figure shows comparative congestion (current versus historical) in our current traffic and in AI Traffic. On the left, the circled area is shows speeds at nearer to historical. On the right, we see speeds are identified above historical (i.e. closer to free-flow). In these times of continuously changing conditions, we are finding that AI Traffic is able to better identify and report more accurate speeds.

COVID-19’S IMPACT ON FREIGHT

INRIX continues to work to provide the most accurate representation of speeds on the road. As with our current speed engine, AI Traffic will work to identify patterns of traffic on road segments rather than individual point speeds from a single vehicle on the segment. The AI Traffic learning model allows for a more stable speed output which ensure more accurate route calculation and ETAs. Additionally, map coloring on traffic tile overlays will show more stability.

3. Increased Stability

The above figure demonstrates the slight improvements you will see with AI Traffic. On the left, more variation in Speed is shown with varied coloring. The right shows improved stability on this same road during the same time period.

WHAT’S NEXT? Advancing our calculation technologies not only provides increased benefits now, it also allows for increased innovation in the future. As we continue to innovate with additional advanced modeling, AI Traffic will be able to answer questions regarding more difficult problems our customers face.
