University

Summary The only way to hold 28 classes per semester is to utilize

basically all available Saturdays throughout each semester.

There is practically no e!ibility in this regard.

The total numbers of "onday#$ednesday available on Summer

2%&' were 2(. So faculty has to ta)e additional ' *four+

classes. The total number of ma)eup classes should be ,,-.

The report available in the A /rogram o0ce shows the

number of Saturday ma)eup classes was 21( *3 assume ,4

materiality+ which represents ,(4 of ,,- all re5uired regularma)e up and advance classes. This is roughly in line with what

should have happened.

A directive was issued on 6une 21 2%&' *7ef 97:A:%-#&':;%18+

< o0ce order dated April %( 2%&' *ref S=U:'->:2%&'+ which

strongly urged faculty members to ta)e ma)e up and

additional classes on Saturday. ?owever even without the

directive faculty members have no option but to utilize

Saturday classes to @ll the 28 class commitment. There is no

way around it. *;otice and 0ce order attached+

ccasionally some faculty members will face special situationsma)ing it necessary to ta)e classes on Thursdays and

Saturdays simply to ful@ll their commitment. Aside from health

issues it is e!pected that some faculty members will resign to

Boin another academic institution ma)e up for special events

go on leave for higher studies and so on.



Analysis of the Academic Calendar of Southeast

1. Each trimester in the BBA Program is supposed to be designed in a way

such that there are 28 classes of 1.5 hours per trimester resulting in 42

hours 28 classes ! 1.5 hours per class" of class time. #his 28 $class

bloc%& includes three e!ams' two mid(terms' and a )nal" which means

that 25 meetings will be for actual class room instructions. Each

trimester will be designed as follows*

2. #he BBA Program ,lass routine is designed following a format %nown

as # 3 / format class routine # unday 3 #uesday and /

/onday 3 ednesday". Any missed class due to holidays' hartals and

political disturbances' or personal reasons" of # schedule was to be

made up on #hursday. Any missed class on / schedule was to be

made up on aturday. #his was done to facilitate holding 25 classesper semester. #here was a general instruction issued to build up

ad6ance classes to o7set anticipated loss of class a6ailability due to

holidays' hartals and political disturbances. #here was an ocial

directi6e issued in this regard. 9n response to that directi6e' many

faculty members had ta%en ad6ance classes on #hursdays and

aturdays. #hursdays and aturdays were utilied almost to the e!tent

of 1 percent in :une.

;. <et us loo% at ummer(214 emester plan and the probable plan for

0all 214.a. Summer 2%&' was originally scheduled to start on 22=5=214 3 end

on 5=>=214. ?ue to ;rd ,on6ocation of the start was delayed by a

wee% and classes actually started on :une 1' 214' resulting in

shrin%ing the trimester by a wee%. <et us loo% at a possible

con)guration of classes until the )rst e!am which was scheduled to

ta%e place in the wee% of :une 2@ to :uly 2.

Assuming that there was no ad6ance class in the )rst wee%' and :une 14

was a holiday for hab(e(Barat' there were only 2 aturdays a6ailable for

ad6ance classes :une 21' and :une 28". ince these two days were the

only a6ailable days to ha6e ad6ance classes' that is what professors did.

9f these two days were utilied' then 2 ! 1;> / sections" 28 classes

had to be held on aturdays unless you could create another 24 hour day

somewhere within the wee%".

A grim reality is outheast ni6ersity professors' unli%e all other uni6ersity

throughout the whole semester..

most professors will be ta%ing three classes per wee% per section in

Con@rmed A grim reality is Southeast University professors unli)e

all other university professors ta)e three classes per wee) forevery section they teach.

5. 0rom the following #able' it should be clear that aturday classes were

ta%en as they were necessary and depended on a6ailability and e!ams.

#o some e!tent' the ad6ance classes concentrated around :uly 5(12

due to e!hortation from an ocial directi6e to ta%e ad6ance classes

sent out by late :une"' but perhaps also because of the realiation that

that is the only way to satisfy the class meeting reDuirement numbers.

9n BBA program' total numbers of sections were 288 in summer(214. #he

total # sections unday(#uesday" were 14> and / sections /onday(

ednesday" were 1;>. #he class room capacity utiliation in / /onday(

ednesday" is >5F. #hat means there is shortage of class room to ta%e

additional classes. o it becomes una6oidable to ta%e classes on

aturday 3 total classes on aturday should be ,,- * ' Classes E&(1

sections+.

@. hen 9 chec% the records in the BBA Program oceGecords attached"'9 found the total number of ma%eup class were 2>; from that 2>;

ma%e up classes' full time faculty members had ta%en 18 classes and

part time faculty members had ta%en 11; classes. o' 2>; classes

regular class plans. #here were pregnancies' there were rush to meet class

meeting reDuirements so as to ful)ll commitment to E before Hoining

another uni6ersity. #hese personal issues resulted in holding some August

classes on aturdays of :une and :uly. 9n other cases personal issues' it Hust

resulted in shuIing classes between aturdays' not between regular classdays and aturdays.
