AHK Saudi Arabia Newsletter October 2015

Dear readers,

After five years in Saudi Arabia it is time for me to say goodbye to you and to Saudi

Arabia. My next destination after being in the MENA region for more than fifteen years

will be Taiwan where I will be the Executive Director of the German Trade Office in

Taipei from the beginning of November 2015.

When I look back I remember many striking events as for example the foundation of the

Saudi - German Business Council in Berlin, different Joint Economic Commissions

headed by the Saudi Arabian Minister of Finance and the German Minister of Econo-

my, the visits of several German Ministers with huge high-ranking business delega-

tions, the installation of two new German business circles in Jeddah and Jubail as well

as the Catalogue shows that we organized in many Saudi Arabian cities. More than

150 delegations, conferences and workshops have been organized by our office during

these five years. But we have also worked to support Saudi Arabian businesses. We

organized about 50 delegations of Saudi Arabian businessmen and Saudi trade fair

participations in Germany covering many sectors like energy, petrochemicals, construc-

tion and agriculture.

Very positive regarding the development of German-Saudi economic relations in the

past five years is the fact that German companies doing business in Saudi Arabia have

nearly doubled from 360 to 700 since 2010 and the bilateral trade relations grew by

about 40 % in the same period: In 2010 German companies exported goods worth 7,7

bn. USD. In 2014 the value of exported goods rose to 11,8 bn. USD. In the first eight

months of 2015 business relations between Saudi Arabia and Germany have also

developed very well. Between January and August 2015 German exports to Saudi

Arabia amounted to 6,584 bn. €, which is an increase of 10.33 % compared to the

according time frame in 2014.

A very important future project is our cooperation with GIZ International services and

the COE on trainings for mechatronics, IT-specialists and business administration ac-

cording to the German dual vocational system. It will support German companies to fit

their needs for skilled labor.

GESALO is continuously working on new information materials to support the German

– Saudi Arabian business relations. Our new directory of German companies and their

representatives in Saudi Arabia will give you an insight into the German - Saudi Arabi-

an business relations and will help finding the right partner.

other relevant authorities to assess the current procedures for allowing foreign investors to expand

their investments in the wholesale and retail sector. The details of the upcoming regulations are cur-

rently developed and will be published at the beginning of the new Hijri year in October 2015.

Foreign companies can already submit proposals to SAGIA:

22 German companies exhibit at German Catalogue Show in Jeddah

The 8th German Catalogue Show in the port city of Jeddah, organized by the German Saudi Arabian

Liaison Office for Economic Affairs (GESALO), was a successful event. The event took place on the

9th of September in Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 22 German companies exhibited

their catalogues in Jeddah Chamber’s premises that were flocked with interested Saudi business

men. The German companies participating in the show are representing a wide range of business

fields: construction, engineering, fashion & lifestyle, communication, environment, chemical; infra-

structure, industries, medical, petrochemical, recycling, security technology, water, waste water, con-

sulting and food.

The yearly German Catalogue Show is a well-established opportunity to get together in order to share

experiences, tie up with new potential business partners and deepen existing relations. This is espe-

cially for small and medium sized companies a good platform to enter the Saudi market.

The welcome remarks were delivered by the German Consul General, Mrs. Anette Klein, the Secre-

tary General of Jeddah Chamber of

Commerce and Industry, H.E. Mr.

Adnan bin Hussein Mandoura and

the Delegate of German Industry

and Commerce for Saudi-Arabia,

Bahrain and Yemen, Mr. Andreas

Hergenroether. “Today’s catalogue

show is not just a presentation of

German products and service but

also a proof of the long lasting and

sustainable business relations of our

two countries,” Mr. Hergenroether

said. “The German economy is not

only an important trade partner for

Saudi Arabia, but equally an im-

portant technology and knowhow

supplier for the Saudi businesses,” he added.

The German Catalogue Show, organized by the German Saudi-Arabian Liaison Office for Economic

Affairs has been a huge success for the last 8 years. Since 2008 GESALO is successfully hosting this

exclusive event for business guests covering various industries and also the public sector. The show

is a major platform for German as well as Saudi business people, CEOs and VIPs to get together to

share ideas and visions for the future. The Catalogue Show creates and deepens relations between

German companies seeking to enter the Saudi market, and Saudi companies looking for new and

innovative products and partners. The event in Jeddah was the fifth and last issue of the German

Catalogue Show in 2015 after it had been held in Manama, Jubail, Dammam and Riyadh with great

Opening of the catalogue show by Mrs. Anette Klein, H.E. Mr. Adnan bin

Hussein Mandoura and Mr. Andreas Hergenroether

of the Trade Fair and Export Promotion department.

The event was supported by the Platinum Sponsors Henkel, Lufthansa, MAN and Automotive Spon-

sor Volkswagen.

German Livestock and Cattle Production Forum – in conjunction with the 34th International Trade Exhibition for Agriculture, Water & Agro-Industry in Riyadh

The German livestock and Cattle Production Forum, organized by the German-Saudi Arabian Liaison

Office for Economic Affairs in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture

(BMEL) and with support from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Agriculture and the Riyadh Exhibitions

Company (REC), was a successful presentation event focusing on German livestock breeding and

cattle production.

The event took place on the

12th of October in conjunc-

tion with the 34th Interna-

tional Trade Exhibition for

Agriculture, Water & Agro-

Industry at the Riyadh In-

ternational Convention &

Exhibition Center – RICEC.

The King Faisal University,

the Saudi Veterinary Medi-

cal Society and more than

40 Saudi companies from

the agricultural sector at-

tended the event. The wel-

come remarks were deliv-

ered by the Head of the Trade Fair and Export Promotion at the AHK - Saudi Arabia, Mr. Al-Ameen

Al-Dalali.

The German independent consultant Dr. Robert Bambauer gave an overview of the livestock produc-

tion in Germany – mainly cattle, sheep, poultry, milk and eggs - and business cooperation opportuni-

ties.

From the Saudi side, Dr. Izeldin Adam Babiker, livestock specialist at the Directorate of Animal Re-

sources at Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Agriculture, put a spotlight on animal production in the Kingdom

of Saudi Arabia. He gave an overview of the opportunities and challenges of livestock in Saudi Ara-

bia.

Photovoltaic and CSP Industry Solutions Symposium

The transfer of renewable energy know-how, the promotion of foreign trade and the facilitation of in-

ternational development cooperation are part of the “renewables – Made in Germany” initiative. The

initiative is carried out under the auspices of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy

(BMWi) in cooperation with various partner organizations, such as the German Chambers of Com-

merce Abroad, Germany

Trade and Invest (GTAI),

Deutsche Energie-Agentur

GmbH (dena) and the

Deutsche Gesellschaft für

Internationale Zusam-

menarbeit (GIZ) (German

Society for International Co-

operation) as well as relevant

industry associations.

This year’s edition of the ini-

tiative shifted to focus to off-

grid applications for the in-

dustry. The German delega-

tion consisting of five compa-

nies working in this field were able to present their businesses, technologies and innovations at the

event organized by the GESALO in the Banquet Hall of the Al Khozama Hotel in Riyadh on October

19. The Saudi Arabian participants covered companies like Aramco, ACWA, Al Fanar and Al-Zamil.

Two breaks during the event offered a good opportunity for the participants to get in touch to ex-

change contact details and ideas as well as to discuss the presented technologies and innovations.

On 20 and 21 October GESALO organized for every German company a series of in-house meetings.

These meetings are a regular part of the “renewables – Made in Germany” initiative and make sure

that the new tied contacts can develop into fruitful business relations.

The audience listens to the presentations of the German delegation

BAHRAIN – A PARTNERSHIP FOR GROWTH With a history of trading that spans several millennia, Bahrain is no stranger to welcoming regional and foreign business to its shores. A growing number of German companies are capitalising on the Kingdom’s strategic location and motivated, bilingual local workforce, and are choosing Bahrain as the base from which to expand their operations into the Gulf’s $1.6 trillion economy. As the first country in the region to diversify away from the hydrocarbons industry, Bahrain has since developed a reputation for excellence in financial services and in the manufacturing and logistics sec-tors. Its focus on sectors such as these has in turn supported the process of developing and diversify-ing the regional economies. This wide range of expertise has already prompted a large number of leading German firms to estab-lish a presence in Bahrain, including BASF, RMA, DHL, SMS Meer, Schmidt Logistics, Lauscha Fiber International, Allianz Global Investors, Hannover Re, Software AG, Siemens P.G., Deutsche Bank, and Lufthansa Technik. More recently, Armacell, a leading provider of flexible insulation foam, has announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility at the Bahrain International Industrial Park (BIIP). The new plant will pro-duce elastomeric rubber insulation for the GCC’s US$3 billion heating, ventilating, and air condition-ing market. Furthermore, in December last year, Schmidt Middle East Logistics reported that building had begun on a $30 million dry bulk logistics hub in Bahrain, with total storage capacity being around 30,000 metric tonnes. In order to provide the best possible environment for companies to thrive, Bahrain has invested heavi-ly in developing facilities for these sectors. The Bahrain Logistics Zone was launched in 2008 as the Middle East’s first multi-model logistics hub to focus on re-export and value-adding logistics. Located close to both the airport and the Khalifa bin Salman Port, which facilitates supply chains by providing world-class services to shipping lines, freight-forwarders and beneficial cargo, the Bahrain Logistics Zone offers the choice of building new facilities, renting land, or renting the state-of-the-art ware-houses that have already been constructed. In addition, Bahrain International Airport is currently undergoing an airport modernisation project that will elevate its infrastructure and services. The existing facilities will be renovated and expanded, ca-tering to the needs of the increasing passenger traffic by bringing the airport’s capacity to 14 million passengers a year. International companies setting up in Bahrain can enjoy numerous competitive benefits. As well as 100% foreign ownership for the large majority of businesses, with no restrictions on the repatriation of capital, profits or dividends, investors can profit from an excellent road, sea and air transport network. Bahrain is particularly well linked to Saudi Arabia, the region’s largest market, with the 25km King Fahd Causeway providing direct access between the two countries. Furthermore, Bahrain is exceedingly proud of its long tradition of openness, and successful economic growth has been driven by this principle. According to the 2015 Index of Economic Freedom pub-

Page 13: AHK Saudi Arabia Newsletter October 2015

13 | P a g e

lished by The Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal, Bahrain is the most economically free country in the Middle East/ North Africa region, ranking 18th worldwide. In addition to its strong trading ties with the GCC region, Bahrain continues to develop commercial partnerships with Germany. This dates as far back as 1902, when Messrs Prins and Sturfen of Ham-burg opened a branch business in Bahrain, tapping into the Kingdom’s pearling industry which was at that time one of the foundations of the Kingdom’s economy. And just as German businesses played a role in an industry that was key to our economy at the beginning of the last century, so they are now, at the heart of sectors like financial services, logistics, advanced industry and manufacturing that will determine our prosperity in the next one. Gerolsteiner Germany announces its presence at the esteemed German Breakfast and Cata-

logue Show series, held in the month of May in various destinations in Saudi-Arabia and Bahrain. In each and every event Gerolsteiner products were available to refresh and convince the attendees about the unique taste and quality of Gerolsteiner natural mineral water.

Gerolsteiner – The Brand That Combines Success With Tradition Since 1888, Gerolsteiner has been offering natural mineral water made in Germany and has mean-while become the World’s No. 1 selling natural Sparkling Mineral Water. Thanks to its volcanic origin and the resulting out-standing quality, Gerolsteiner has managed to convince consumers in more than 40 countries around the globe and is the largest mineral water exporter in Germany.

The Treasure Of The Volcanic Eifel

Gerolsteiner originates from the Volcanic Eifel in Germany, which has one-of-a-kind geological char-acter. The unique combination of dolomite rocks rich in minerals and carbonic acid - a by-product of prehistoric volcanic activity - results in the naturally carbonated Gerolsteiner mineral water. The water gathers at a depth of up to 200 meters retaining its purity and freshness thanks to carbonic acid. To guarantee the high level of freshness and natural purity, the water is bottled directly at its source.

Distribution in the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia and Bahrain

Recently the brand has been introduced to the Saudi-Arabian and Bahrain markets through the fol-lowing Gerolsteiner partners KSA: Yousef Ahmed Al-Gosaibi Trading & Contracting Co. Herrenknecht: Building the backbone of Saudi Arabia´s infrastructure

Underground infrastructures are increasingly forming the arteries of our global society. They provide for mobility, supply and disposal and explore raw materials. Herrenknecht has been paving the way for them for almost 40 years. Herrenknecht is the leading premium provider worldwide for all-around technical solutions in mecha-nized tunelling. Together with our customers we take on the toughest challenges. Our tunelling sys-tems render top performances for our clients’ road to success. Metro, railway, road, utility, pipeline, hydropower, mining and exploration: Herrenknecht’s references include more than 2,600 completed projects around the world. Our tunelling technology helps to build tunnels, pipelines, shafts and production wells in all ground conditions with diameters ranging from 0.10 to 19 meters. Pioneering technology from Herrenknecht ensures safe progress when construct-ing modern infrastructures in all areas of application. Exactly where they are needed. In Saudi Arabia Herrenknecht tunnel boring machines and equipment are involved in several im-portant projects aiming to match the requirements of the growing cities. Riyadh: Revolution of the public transport system.

Riyadh is building a metro system to provide a powerful solution to the city‘s public transport needs. Herrenknecht delivers in total 6 tunnel boring machines for the five-year giant project. The new metro system consists of six lines, with a total length of 179 km and 83 stations. It is planned to accommo-date 1.16 million passengers per day at the beginning of operation and 3.6 million passengers per day after 10 years. Mecca: Challenges in the Holy City.

The underground traffic and utility infrastructure of the metropolis is being expanded. To increase the capacity of the existing sewage system, two so-called EPB Shields from Herrenknecht are driving two 1.5 and 1.8km long tunnels. A new remote monitoring system allows a machine operator in Germany to monitor the drive in Mecca in real time around the clock via cameras and to provide maximum sup-port, if needed. Jeddah: Extension of the sewage system for a better quality of life.

The large city of Jeddah on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia is extending its sewage system with the help of a comprehensive master plan. Rapidly more and more households are connected to the sanitary system. Around 30 utility tunelling machines by Herrenknecht are working on the new tunnels and are paving their way through the soil. The local Herrenknecht subsidiary provided prompt supply with spare parts and fast service. Al-Jubail: New pipelines for the black gold.

Today, Al-Jubail is one of the most important industrial centers and ports of Saudi Arabia. Thanks to its oil occurrences the ancient village has become an ultra-modern city within 40 years. To feed the black gold from the offshore oil field safely to the refinery on land, two parallel pipelines had to be laid beneath the seabed. Therefore Herrenknecht delivered two powerful so-called HDD Rigs.

SSI Schaefer LogiMat® vertical lift: Sophisticated technology for storage and order picking of small parts. With the new LogiMat, SSI Schaefer is modernising its vertical lift product range. The latest development of the tried and tested LogiMat is equipped with numerous basic functionalities, supplemented by three pre-configured options packages, numerous add-on options and the pioneering warehouse management software. The storage and order picking solution im-

presses here in particu-lar with the modular and scalable concept, its integrated safety concept and ergonomic design. Plug-and-Play, connect and go, is the watchword for the latest LogiMat generation from SSI Schaefer. The vertical lift is equipped with numerous standardised functions that do not require any expensive expansion with add-on op-tions. The consistently modu-lar design makes the LogiMat an expandable solution with high security of investment. The high quality individual components that SSI Schaefer typically use such as the ro-bust rack and pinion drive also ensure minimal wear and low-

maintenance operation. The LogiMat is aimed at all companies requiring a powerful, safe and ergonomic system using the "goods-to-person" prin-ciple. Even at the design stage, the new LogiMat can be optimally adapted for all site conditions with eight different model widths in two model depths as well as a freely selectable machine height of almost 24 metres. The maximum available room height is utilised thanks to the compact design. High compression storage in the minimum amount of space is facili-tated by numerous features such as the infinitely adjustable inward storage of the trays in a 25 mm pitch, the inward stor-age strategy with FIX height and/or intelligent height optimisation (IHO) or the flexible tray designed to optimise space and weight. For the individual expansion of the standard design, SSI Schaefer offers three different, coordinated and pre-configured options packages for the LogiMat that supplement the functions in terms of ergonomics, performance and maintenance. Naturally all options are also available individually. Worthy of particular mention are the unique LogiTilt tilting device for the ergonomic removal of goods and reduction of reach depth and the LogiWork that can be used to adjust the height of the delivery table to the height of the employees. The same principle applies to the choice of division accessories: simple and practical. Exclusively available at SSI Schaefer is the supplementary LMB container range that can be fitted onto the standard trays. The plastic boxes are op-timised for the tray depth of 800 mm and can also be subdivided using dividers. An ingenious solution for additional stor-age compression.

Due to the high potential of the Saudi market and the increasing demand of German small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) AHK Saudi Arabia and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Eastern Westphalia (IHK) based in the city of Bielefeld established in the beginning of 2011 the first Saudi Arabia Desk in Germa-ny. The aim of the Saudi Arabia Desk is to intensify the bilateral economic relations. By now IHK is the first contact partner for SMEs in North Rhine-Westphalia and the whole of Germany with regard to information and consul-tancy for business in Saudi Arabia. As the nucleus chamber for the Arabian Gulf in Germany IHK Bielefeld will be able to offer a much better service to all companies. With an exporting volume of approximately 9.248 billion Euros in 2013 the German economy is one of the three most important importing countries for Saudi Arabia and the most important in Europe. Public tenders as well as private projects for several hundred billion Euros are planned in the field of infrastructure, petrochemi-cals, health care and education. Made in Germany are frequently demanded by Saudi decision makers espe-

cially when projects are including the needed transfer of technology and know-how. In 2013 the German‐Arab trade volume is worth approximately 11 billion Euros, about the same as in 2012. Exported goods were fore-most machinery, motor vehicles and parts, chemicals, food, metals, electronics and electro technical supplies. With the Saudi Arabia Desk IHK and AHK would like to organize common information events and expert sym-

posiums in order to inform intensively and detailed about the latest topics of the German‐Saudi relations and business opportunities. Furthermore it is planned to build up a strong network with all players and organiza-tions in the German-Saudi Arabian business. Additionally business delegations to Saudi Arabia shall be orga-nized and information about known international trade fairs shall be provided to companies in Saudi Arabia and Germany.
