2. Why is agriculture the backbone of our economy? A big portion of the economy depends on the performance of the agricultural sector for the countrys food supply because the livelihood of many Filipinos relies on agriculture.

3. Why is economic development associated with agricultural development? If there is agricultural development, there is also economic development. This is because 32% of our employment and 12% of GDP comes from agriculture. The condition of our agricultural sector affects the growth of our economy.

4. What problems does the agricultural sector face? How could these problems be solved? Deforestation Soil Erosion Pollution Global Warming Increase in Population Low Level of Technology Insufficiency of Facilities and Infrastructure

Increased investment in rural infrastructure, research and development, effective management and development of cooperatives and farmer/fisherfolks self-reliance programs Ensure the continuation and expansion of its programs aimed at increasing production and encouragement of consumers to patronize local agricultural products Emphasis on intensive agriculture within ecological limits, prevent further destruction of natural resources and to accelerate health and education programs which aim to improve the quality of life of farmers and fishfolks Address among others the need for more sustainable production and export competitiveness Look into the production of agricultural imports, plant genetic material and fertilizer, product diversification and processing of agricultural products for non-traditional use
