Grain Bin Safety Video
If you have to enter a bin there are preventative measures you can take in order to ensure your safety. You should always wear a harness that is tied to something strong enough to hold your weight and then some. You should also never enter a grain bin without some form of communication to those helping you outside. An air-wave radio is perfect for this. Click the grain rescue tube to take the Grain Safety Quiz!

that is properly attached to an anchor this could save your life!
Helpers, to help you out! Click the arrow to continue!
Correct Answer to #2
Incorrect Answer to #2
Sorry! You did not answer the question correctly! Cell phones can not be used in grain bins due to the thick concrete walls and or metal. Eating in grain bins is not advised due to the high amount of dust and toxins present in the air. A bungee cord would not support your weight and would just stretch with the pull of the grain. And never bring a newborn baby into a bin! The air is full of air-borne dust particles that could coat their lungs and suffocate them! Please hit the back arrow and choose the correct answer, after you have done so please read the written description!
If someone becomes entrapped in grain what should you do immediately?
Grain Question #3
A. Shut off all running equipment and call 911 instantly
B. Reverse the flow of grain and hope the victim comes out alive
C. Shut off the equipment and call it a day
D. Call your mom and dad and tell them about it
Congratulations! As soon as you are aware of an issue you should shut down all running
machinery and call 911. You should also make sure to put a lock on the operational buttons of the equipment to prevent accidental starting!
Click the forward arrow to continue!
Correct Answer #3
Sorry! You did not answer that question correctly! Please go back and try again!
Hint: You should shut off equipment in order to prevent accidental starts and to stop more
damage from occurring.
Please press the back arrow to try again!
Incorrect Answer #3
If you walk into a grain bin and the grain looks like a hill but has stopped moving at the
bottom, would it be safe to assume that there is something wrong?
Grain Question #4
A. Yes there is something wrong, the grain is defying gravityB. No, the grain is fine
C. Yes there is something wrong, the grain is bridged and dangerousD. No, you worry too much
Congratulations! You chose the correct answer! When grain forms a hill shape and it has stopped flowing out of the bottom it means a bridge has formed! This means that there is an air pocket in the grain that could collapse when you stand on it. Please observe the diagram then click on it to continue.
Correct Answer #4
Sorry! You chose the incorrect answer! If you think back to the video about the Indiana
State Fair Grain Safety Demonstrations you will remember the proper terminology for this
situation! Please click the back arrow to go back and try again!
Incorrect Answer #4
This answer was not discussed in the lesson but, do you think that your local fire department has received training in grain safety? Or agricultural safety in general?
Grain Question #5
Yes No
Sadly, many volunteer and professional fire departments and rescue teams have not
received training in most forms of agricultural safety! There is a lot of effort being made to
change this however! Click the star to continue and congratulations on finishing the
quiz!
There isn’t a correct answer!
Tractor Safety
Please click on the tractor to begin learning about tractor safety!
Tractors are an essential part of today’s agricultural industry! Without them we would not be able to feed our rapidly growing population. However, even these great machines present many dangers. Please click the orange Slow Moving Vehicle(SMV) emblem to continue!
Intro to Tractor Safety
In this short clip you will see some hazards of small children around tractors and put the size of the
tractor versus the child into
perspective. Please press play when ready! Then the arrow to move
on!
Big Tractor, Little People
Tractors are very mechanically advanced
and contain many moving parts as well as heavy parts. There are many opportunities for an accident or serious
injury to occur. Pictured to the right are several of the most dangerous components. Click the tractor to continue!
Tractor Safety!
PTO is an acronym for Power Take Off. PTO shafts are used on tractors to transfer energy from one component to another. PTO shaft entanglements are highly common yet, easily preventable. On the right is the warning sticker which is usually present on or near PTO shafts as a warning to users. Please click on it to continue!
PTO Safety
Tractors come with many handy and time-saving attachments. These attachments present their own dangers and risks all unique to the piece of equipment being used. A pinch point is any point on a piece of equipment that one can become stuck in. On the right is the sticker for that hazard. Also pictured are examples of pinch points. Please click on the sticker to continue.
Tractor Attachments
Hydraulic components are very useful in agriculture and many other industries, with many of
their own dangers. Hydraulic oil moves through the lines at a
very fast pace, if a crack in the line happens to occur it can cut
right through human flesh possibly even resulting in
amputation of limbs or digits. Hydraulic cylinders are also pinch point hazards and can
cause damage. Please read the sign and click on the cylinder to
continue.
Hydraulic Hazards
A tractor overturn is a commonly occurring
accident in agricultural practices. All it takes is one gentle slope or a
steep hill and tractors can flip. This could even occur
on flat land. Potential hazards include broken bones, crushed body
parts and possible death. Click the overturn to
continue.
