Agricultural Research Service Postdoctoral Research Associate Program
As the chief scientific research agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA), the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) conducts research to develop and transfer solutions to agricultural problems of high national priority. Approximately 1,000 research projects are currently underway in the following four national
program areas:
Nutrition, Food Safety/Quality Animal Production and Protection Natural Resources and Sustainable Agricultural Systems
Crop Production and Protection
ARS Research Associate appointments are typically 2 year appointments with a
possible 2 year extension ARS Research Associates are hired into positions paying between forty-
thousand to sixty-thousand per year, depending on qualifications and
geographic location Benefits include paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and Federal health, life
and long-term care insurance programs About one-third of ARS Research
Associates have been hired into permanent positions within ARS ARS has approximately 100 locations,
domestic and abroad
