Farm Appraiser

•Determine the value for a piece of land by analyzing the soil type, water quality and availability and crop potential

•Inspect property and equipment used for value to sale or as security for loans

•Consult with loan officers regarding the overall value assigned to the property

•Document field inspections

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•Analytical nature with sound reasoning and decision-making skills

•Strong communication skills and be able to work well with others and understand their customers

•Honesty and a hard work ethic are also necessary

Qualities and Skills

A rural appraiser could make anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000 per year depending on the company one works for, their location and their experience.

Salary

A bachelor’s degree in agriculture is typically

required for this profession. A higher degree would

simply increase one’s chances of advancement.

•Work will be done both indoors and outdoors

•Much of the work is done on the computer or in a courthouse

•Traveling may be necessary to visit agricultural locations

•Typical 40-hour work week
