OverviewcodeBeamer ALM’s Software Development functionality is integrated with the Requirements Management and QA & Test Management features. This ensures traceability, as well as the end-to-end coverage of the entire software development lifecycle with advanced features. codeBeamer ALM efficiently supports all development methodologies (Waterfall, Agile and Hybrid solutions, as well as scaled Agile using SAFe®).

Its Software Development functionality enables development teams to work with major version control systems such as Git, Subversion, CVS, Plastic SCM and Mercurial. codeBeamer offers an Agile layer to provide Agile/Scrum-based teams with Agile planning and management functionality. It is also the first proven implementation of the Scaled Agile Framework. Via a dedicated, preconfigured SAFe® template, codeBeamer ALM supports the structured scaling of Agile in large organizations.

The (separately purchased) interactive Kanban board provides all team members with a quick overview of tasks and overall release/sprint status, and enables convenient and efficient task management. codeBeamer’s baselining (versioning) feature ensures full traceability on all changes throughout the development lifecycle. Via integrations with widely used tools (MS Office solutions, JIRA, IBM DOORS, SAP, as well as custom integrations via REST API) and support for various file formats, codeBeamer ALM greatly facilitates collaboration and data consistency across the lifecycle.

Main Features

User Stories, Requirements, and Development Tasks ManagementUser stories, requirements and tasks may be defined in highly configurable trackers, while further data and knowledge may be shared in a collaborative manner using Wikis. Tasks may be defined manually via a WYSIWYG editor, imported from a variety of third party tools, or synched with JIRA® via codeBeamer’s bidirectional JIRA integration. UML diagrams and requirements may be imported from Enterprise Architect and MATLAB Simulink. Relationships (dependencies) and changes of user stories, requirements and tasks can also be easily tracked and managed.

Change and Configuration ManagementUnlike many of its competitors, codeBeamer uses a single repository to store all your artifacts. This ensures solid change management and data consistency across all features. Changes in requirements, their impact analysis, and implementation (code) are ensured through fully customizable pre-configured workflows. Baselining provides an overview on change history, and enables you to “travel back in time” by browsing previous versions any time.

Release Planner: Sprint, Release and Delivery Management codeBeamer’s Release Planner supports both Agile and traditional methods, facilitating the definition of releases (milestones, versions) and sprints with an easy to use drag-and-drop interface. The planner offers various filtering options to help team members and team leaders (Scrum Masters) access relevant information with just a few clicks. While supporting product, project and multiproject releases, codeBeamer’s release management functionality also gives you an overview on the resources of the release, and provides a burndown chart as well as statistics for each project.

Source Code ManagementcodeBeamer comes integrated with version control systems Git, Subversion, Mercurial, CVS and Plastic SCM, allowing you to set up and manage repositories, manage commits, and merge codes. Integrator workflows can also be defined, and requirements can be linked to source code commits in order to ensure complete traceability.

Project Management: Dashboards and Reporting Fully configurable dashboards help you and your team stay on top of the status of all your development processes. Statistics and diagrams may be used to visualize data. Custom queries may be used to retrieve data about your projects. Release activity trends display the progress made in each sprint and release. The status of incidents and requests for changes can also be tracked using these charts, enabling you to manage escalations. The Kanban board (offered for purchase separately) ensures a quick and conveniently filterable overview of all tasks for daily stand-up meetings or task management purposes.
