Leadership Development EventsOverview, Expectations, and
Opportunities
OverviewTeachers are registering their students on judgingcard.com for the following events:
Junior QuizSenior Quiz
Junior CreedSenior Creed
Junior Chapter ConductingSenior Chapter Conducting
RadioPublic Relations
Agricultural IssuesJob Interview
ExpectationsOur FAST members:
› Will serve as judges to evaluate materials and student performance
› Will serve as committee chairs› Will help with registration and checking in chapters› Will make sure students are where they need to be
at the appropriate time› Will post results, and return materials to teachers› We need approximately 50 members involved to
make the event a success!
What Does a Committee Chair Do?
Find judges for the event (chair can also judge) Make sure judges are familiar with and utilized the
rules and rubrics for the event Show up on time to the event (7:45 a.m.),
professionally dressed Set up the room as needed Introduce teams to the judges, depending on event Compile judge’s rankings to determine overall rankings Post the rankings and organize materials to return to
teachers
What Does a Judge Do? Show up on time to the event (7:45 a.m.),
professionally dressed Utilize the scoring rubrics provided to
evaluate teams/individuals Provide written feedback to help the
student’s improve performance Turn in team/individual rankings to the chair
along with rubrics/written suggestions to be returned to the teacher
Quiz
Chair will develop an exam—old versions are available to make this easier
Proctors (2) are needed to administer the exam and ensure the division of juniors/seniors
The exam is graded by a scanner. Some questions are hand graded.
Results are posted for juniors/seniors.
Creed
Students say the FFA Creed word for word Students are evaluated based on the rubric Separate events for junior and senior
students Judges (3 for each event) based on the
rubric
Chapter Conducting Chair creates a set of problems for the event Teams conduct opening ceremonies,
complete the set of problems, conduct closing ceremonies, and answer parliamentary questions asked by the judges
Separate events for junior and senior teams Judges evaluate based on the rubric (3 for
each event)
Radio
Chair sets up radio equipment and ensures it is working properly
Teams are given time to do a mic test, then read their script
Judges are in a separate room and only hear the students over the mic
Judges (3) evaluate the team using the rubric
Public Relations
Judges listen to a public relations presentation by a team of students
The presentation must follow the theme designated for that year
Judges ask questions from a list on the Texas FFA website
Judges (3) evaluate the teams using the rubric
Agricultural Issues
Judges evaluate a portfolio of materials provided by the team before the event begins
Judges listen to the presentation of an agricultural issue identified by the team
Judges ask the team questions related to the issue
Judges (3) evaluate the teams based on the rubric
Job Interview Prior to the event, students submit a resume
and cover letter to be evaluated by a set of judges
Students fill out a generic job application, complete a phone interview and a face-to-face interview
Judges and proctors/timekeepers (9 total) are needed for each of these segments of the event
Scores from each segment of the event are combined to determine rankings of students

Runners, shuffling students between rooms Registration (2) personnel to check in teams
and provide instructions Coaches Corner (2) personnel to pick up
donuts, coffee, etc. T-shirt creation and sales (2)
How Do You Get Involved? Sign up tonight or contact a FAST officer or Dr.
Harlin! Sheets up front for all the events and other
personnel needs Lunch is provided and you should be done by
3:30 p.m. or earlier Next meeting….AggieFest Preparation—get
your packets for the contest and check out your room!
