GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE HOST Thank you for purchasing the ‘The Case of the Missing Crown Diamond’ game from mymysteryparty.com! This mystery is a light-hearted and comical mystery that allows you and your guests to step into a different character while trying to solve the entertaining mystery. The party can be a huge success as long as you and your guests relax and let the mystery unravel during each round. The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues and slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED

GAME PRE-GAME: these pre-game starter cards are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game starters are optional and do not alter the mystery, and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These starters are not vital to solving the mystery. EVENING GOWN COMPETITION / ROUND ONE: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. Serve small snacks and mini milkshakes. Make sure the ‘Guest Instructions’ and the ‘List of Characters’ are available for your guests to read when they arrive. You can also take the time to review these materials with your guests before starting the game. TALENT COMPETITION / ROUND TWO: Deliver these clues while you serve a light dinner to your guests. INVESTIGATION ROUND / ROUND THREE: No food or drink needs to be served – it is an active round. FINAL SOLUTION ROUND / ROUND FOUR: Cake and hot chocolate should be served during this round as the guests read their final solutions.

Before the party, send out the free, printable game invitations to your guests as they have a character list and a mystery synopsis included. The invitations are on the game page on the My Mystery Party website at:

GAME envelopes. However, please note that these are a reminder for what they are ‘arriving for’ (i.e. the pageant) so it might not make sense and at this age, it is probably best to skip it as it was optional anyway.

ROUND ONE – EVENING GOWN COMPETITION PARENT HOST INSTRUCTIONS:

Make sure that the crown is in plain view in the same room as the party will be held. The crown should be displayed on a satin pillow if possible. A sash (satin, cotton or paper) that reads 'Miss Teen United States' is an optional prop and can be displayed next to the crown. If the ‘Fabulous Sash Creations’ game is played – do this as the girls arrive. If the sash game is played, wait until everyone is finished with their sash and then go over the instructions of how to play a mystery game. Make sure that all of the guests understand how the game will work and then go over the characters (you can introduce them one-by-one and go over their descriptions). When the guests are ready to begin, pass out the round 1 envelopes and let them know that once everyone opens their envelope, the pageant officially begins.

ROUND TWO – TALENT COMPETITION PARENT HOST INSTRUCTIONS:

Pass out the round two envelopes to the guests and have the guests change into their talent routine costumes (costumes are optional). Clear out an area for a 'stage.' In any order, the guests should perform a 1-2 minute routine of their chosen talent. When the guests are not performing, they sit in the audience. Some guests may require music for their talent, so be sure to have a source of music available. The guests can perform any talent that they wish, or if they happen to be shy or are not feeling up to it, it will not change the mystery if they decide they'd rather not do one at all.

GAME ROUND THREE– THE INVESTIGATION

The guests will need time to mingle and gather clues as to whodunit. They should be provided with a pen and either an investigation sheet or a notepad to take notes of the clues that they collect. Tell the players to ask

HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY Guest Instructions

Professional actors are great for mysteries but do not worry because you do not have to be a good actor – or an actor at all – to play a mystery! The only quality that you need to possess is the ability to have a blast! The mystery party is separated into 4 rounds. During the party, you will be handed an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues will provide everything that you will need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to other guests’ clues to be able to get the whole picture of what has happened.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED

GAME From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘green alien from Mars’, then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host has cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. There are some characters that are designed to be played more reserved than other characters that should be played more boisterous. Feel free to play your role however you feel comfortable. Feel free to embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other characters to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information. Not everyone needs to or should have the spotlight!

The crown diamond must be found!

Let’s investigate and figure out whodunit and quick! Make sure that you interrogate everyone and take good notes! When you think you’ve got it solved, hand in your guess to Ms. Victoria Morningstar. Be thorough. Think back on everything the other contestants have said and done. Did anyone touch the crown during the game, does anyone have a motive? Think about it and then go and ask the other contestants more questions about it. You have been racking your brain trying to figure out what the ultimate shiny, sparkling object would be that you could easily glue to your western costume. You like Miss Hawaii the best of all the contestants. You two have the most in common.

When it is you turn, stand inside the middle of the circle and read the following to the group: "I did say that my costume wasn't shiny, glittery or sparkling enough, but I truly don't think one diamond would have helped. I think I might pour some glue on it and dump tons of glitter on it. What do y’all think?"
