The World of Concrete 2006Editorial Tour–Hoover DamBypass is the perfect oppor-tunity to tour one of theworld’s most famous concreteprojects. But that’s not all.

This is the site where anew four-lane bridge isbeing built one-quartermile downstream fromthe dam over theColorado River. Learn all thatthis massive project entails.

Buses will leave Door 9of the Las Vegas ConventionCenter’s Central Hall at 12:30

p.m., Sunday, Jan. 15, andreturn to the conventioncenter at 5:30 p.m.

We will visit the ap-proach to the new bridge.Managers from Casino ReadyMix, the producer that’s

pouring the concrete forthe project, will talk

about the challengesand opportunities they

face. Buses also will stop atCasino’s nearby plant.

Representatives fromSika Corp., the tour’s sponsor,will talk about the concrete

admixtures used in the mixdesigns. Contributing editorRichard Szecsy of LattimoreMaterials will discuss how self-consolidating concrete is beingused in the project, and con-crete historian Luke Snell willgive a presentation on thes i t e ’s history.

Attendees will go to theVisitor’s Center to learn aboutthe history of the dam. A box

lunch will be served, andbuses will return to the con-vention center at approxi-mately 5:30 p.m.

Everyone on the tourwill receive a souvenir hardhat and a copy of Szecsy’spresentation on CD-ROM.
