Description of Agathians Shelter

Background Agathians Shelter is an orphanage for boys that was founded in 2003 by a team of young adults. it was set up to save a group of children from being turned out to the street and to provide a home for them. The children are from various backgrounds; some are orphaned, some only have a single parent who can’t afford to feed them and others are either abandoned or neglected.

How the Project Works

The children in the shelter are able to communicate in English. The age group is from 3 to 18 years old. EP is required to prepare a 6-week-preplan. Advice will be given after passing the interview.

Expectations

The fulfilled learning points are to manage children, plan and resolve daily obstacle, learn the actual task of the kids in the shelter. Measurable results expected from the intern is to follow the children's schedule and assist them in their education with passion and care. Besides, the six-weeks planning on activities are strongly emphasized. 1-4 Eps will be working at the same time.

Detailed Job Description

• Execute the 6-week-preplan. • Conduct and assist classes in the shelter, including teaching English, conducting

computer class and help in the children's daily homework. • Responsible for the children daily schedule. Coach them and ensure they are

following the schedule prepared by the shelter. • Drop and pick up children from school (100m away only from the shelter )

Education and Training

• Liase with other volunteers in the daily work and update the management of shelter with information and problems.

• Help in office works, e.g filling, database and organizing events of the shelter.

Criteria/Requirement from EPs: Proactive, Passionate, Caring, Artistic

Internship Details • Free accommodation is provided. The rooms are separated based on gender. Male EP

will have to share room with the kids; female EP will have their own room with other female EP.

• EP can get public transportation which near to the shelter and a walking distance to groceries, restaurants from shelter.

• Computer room and library are available in the shelter. • Bathroom: Shared

• Free food is provided, Indian food will be served.

Cooking facilities are provided. • Internet is provided. • Reception Cost: MYR 60. Airport pickup is not provided; however, pickup from train

station/bus station is provided.

Integration AIESEC Activities

• EP will meet AIESECer at least twice throughout the 6 weeks. • Transportation fee for EP to do LC visit back and forth is around

MYR14. • EP will be invited to LC UKM if there is any AIESEC event in LC. • EP is highly recommend to prepare a cultural sharing or

presentation. • LC partnership is recommended in future if this experience achieve

mutual expectation for both LC.
