Ever since Hermann Berthold founded thecompany in 1858, the Berthold name has beensynonymous with the highest standards oftypeface design. Within every Berthold type-face, each character is crafted with the utmostattention to detail in order to achieve typo-graphic and aesthetic harmony.

Without doubt that is why the Berthold namehas endured for over 140 years despite themany fundamental changes in technology andtype use.

Berthold Types, successor to this highly-regarded German foundry, has now releasedthe complete Berthold Exclusiv Collection—700of the most significant typefaces of the twen-tieth century, all on display within this cat-alogue.

Coordination of the meticulous standards andattention to detail in the production of thesetypefaces was largely the work of Berthold’sformer artistic director, Gunter Gerhard Lange,creator of many classics including BertholdAkzidenz-Grotesk Book, Berthold Bodoni OldFace and Caslon Book.

His colleague and eventual successor, BerndMollenstadt, contributor of Formata andSignata, rigidly maintained these high stan-dards whilst directing the digitisation of thecollection.
