Davenports Tea Room was awarded this coveted honour in praise of itsscones, made from a closely guarded 1930’s recipe, charmingdécor, extensive range of loose leaf tea and welcoming staff. Takingthe theme of Alice in Wonderland as Lewis Carroll (pen n a m e f o rCharles Lutwidge Dodgson) who was born less than two miles away,Davenport's Tea Room is very much steeped in British traditionswith lace table cloths and fine bone china, just some of Davenports‘signature’ characteristics. Davenports ultimate quest for perfection and attention todetail has always been their aim to create the best of English Afternoon Tea cuisine.

Often referred to as the Oscars of the tea world The Tea Guild's prestigious award nowsits pride of place in their Tea Room. Davenports Tea Room was judged by anonymousexperienced tea inspectors (on several occasions) along strict guidelines across 16categories. These included décor, efficiency of service, tea appearance and flavour.Davenports Tea Room received this award after gaining a near perfect score by the TeaGuild’s highly impressed judges.

Served between 12.30pm - 3pmCakes for our special Afternoon Teas are not just slices of cake from our cabinet, but amixture of specially made mini cakes for theoccasion and will depend on which AfternoonTea you have chosen and bread pre-orderedand brought in fresh from the bakery daily.We therefore ask for at *least 24hrs notice,which will also give us an opportunity to askyou about preferred sandwich fillings, choiceof scone va r ie t ie s and any d ie ta ryrequirements. If you aren't able to give usnotice please ask, but please understand if it isn't possible as we really do want todo the best for you. Alternatively we might be able to do a cake selection from ourcake cabinet. For parties of 6 or more we do require a £10 pp deposit (non-refundable).

A choice or mix of finger sandwiches usually: roasted ham; egg & cress with a touch ofmayonnaise; home-made potted beef; cream cheese & cucumber or cheese & chutney ifpreferred. Served with a selection of mini cakes and warm, home-made sconesaccompanied with delicious local home-made jam & clotted cream, and butter (ifrequired). Please note that as we brew your tea to your liking and take the tea leavesout, ensuring a perfect cup throughout, on the downside it won't be possible to top upyour pot. Please note the actual selectionvaries depending on time of year and day of week, so let us know if there is anythingyou've particularly enjoyed on previous visits. Davenport's Combination Luxury & Savoury £24.99ppProving to be a popular choice this afternoon tea is ideal for those with not so sweet atooth. You will be presented on our vintage cake stand bottom tier, a delicious range ofmixed sandwiches, second tier a selection of mouth watering savoury items and the toptier a beautiful selection of mini cakes, followed by a sweet or cheese scone aspreferred, plus one pot of artisan tea/speciality coffee from our extensive menu.Minimum two people. Children’s Special Afternoon Tea from £14.99pp Choice of soft drink or tea; finger sandwiches, suitable mini cakes, a scone and a home-made undecorated fairy cake, served with a small dish of home-made butter cream andcake decorating bits so that, and how cool is this....the children decorate their owncake! This is a very special occasion for not only do they dress up the tea room with Downtonstyle Christmas theme. All the staff are dressed in Victorian costume during this period.They also offer two very special Victorian Christmas Afternoon Teas both have mulledwine on arrival (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and a mixed round of sandwiches each withfillings of free range bronze turkey with home-made cranberry sauce, an award winningsmoked salmon and cream cheese, home roasted ham cooked in apple juice with cloves,then roasted with demerara sugar, absolutely delicious and Tom's delicious home-madepotted beef sandwiches, home-made with best quality beef with a touch of horse-radishsauce (unless you tell us otherwise when you book). The focus is on the food, but we spend time and effort creating the Alice in Wonderlandenvironment building on our already themed tea room. The tables and tea room aredressed for the occasion themed characters such as Alice, the Queen of Hearts, theWhite Rabbit and one of the Queens cards deliver the afternoon tea which has itemssuch as amazingly decorated Cheshire Cat cupcakes, edible white rabbits, "Eat Me"meringue mushrooms and "Drink Me" drinks with a riddle from the Mad Hatter, is just asnapshot of our event. Local food and home-made food at its best...some of thereasons people travel from far and wide.
