AFSC Midwest Digest Highlights of Recent Work from Around the Region — February 5, 2016 The “circus” moves from Iowa to New Hampshire Since the fall of 2014, AFSC volunteers and staff in Iowa and New Hampshire have been focusing presidenal candidate and media aenon on Governing Under the Influence, using bird- dogging and street acons to shine a light on undue corporate influence. Thanks in part to GUI’s efforts, candidates have taken stands against the immigrant detenon quota and plans to spend $1 trillion on new nuclear weapons. Here’s a sampling of some recent media: Friends Journal, KKFI, Fusion and the Cedar Rapids Gazee. Here are some views from one caucus precinct in Des Moines. Reflecons on 25 years since the first US war against Iraq Jennifer Bing of AFSC in Chicago and Kevin Marn of Peace Acon reflect on the 25th anniversary of a war whose lessons the US connues to ignore. On February 3rd, AFSC hosted a conversaon with Nadine Naber and Ali Issa, author of "Against All Odds: Voices of Popular Struggle in Iraq." Remembering Dr. King by “moving the money” AFSC and SCLC in Kansas City helped mark the Dr. Marn Luther King, Jr. holiday by co-hosng a forum that took a deeper look at economic injusce. Minnesota Friends to address undoing racism From the Twin Cies Friends Meeng (TCFM) newsleer: March 3-5, Undoing Racism Training: Friends, please join AFSC and the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB) for an undoing racism workshop that will be held at TCFM on March 3-5. Our focus over the 2 1/2 days will be to gain a deeper understanding of systemic racism and explore ways to take action. Please go here for registration information.
