My country has always been characterized by the support provided to less developed

nations for a better mankind.

My country created the Switzerland Humanitarian Aid which mission is to save lives

and alleviate suffering. It is guided by international humanitarian law and by the

internationally recognized principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence. !he

Swiss Humanitarian Aid "nit provides direct aid via immediate response interventions

or seconds specialists to multilateral organizations.

#ast September there were a series of meetings by the "$ %eneral Assembly recalling

the commitment from member countries who seek to create a global development

agenda.

!he conviction that we are global citizens is one commitment that has been around since

the creation of the "nited $ations. It is based on the idea that all human beings share the

same dignity and no border or national power can stop this thought.

&or such an ambitious pro'ect like this, we must create mechanisms for evaluation.

States need to be particularly determined, set specific goals and deadlines for

compliance. !he mechanisms of accountability are the key to development goals for the

national actors. (e can help but we need the commitment of the countries, in this case

the African nations if not this meeting only would be a lot of simple but beautiful words.

!he International )ooperation of Switzerland has five strategic goals to help to other

nations and my country intends these goals as general goals for all "$ members to help

Africa.

*revent crises, conflicts and disasters

)reate universal access to resources and services

*romote sustainable economic growth

Support transitions to democratic, market+based economy systems

Help shape globalization that favors development, safeguards the environment

and is socially acceptable

*olitical actions like to create basic education and vocational training programs can

create opportunities for the future. !his is the key to the development of rural

economies, helping to create economic value to each citizen of African countries.

Switzerland proposes the adhesion of each member to any program to provide

assistance to Africa in its development. !here is no minimum reuirement to be part

of this initiative, 'ust every effort even that if this is minimal assistance it will be

critical for a better tomorrow not only for this continent but also for the whole

world.
