Transcript of AFNORTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL British Section...This week Sunbeams have been working on all things...
Dear Parents,
In “normal” circumstances our Easter Assembly today would mark the end of the
Spring Term but having our assembly this morning via zoom demonstrates we are
far from familiarity! It also demonstrates how committed we are in ensuring our
children still feel very much part of the AFNORTH family. I am very grateful to
work with such a wonderful team.
Thank you again for all your engagement with Distance Learning these past few
weeks. I am sure you are delighted that the Easter Holidays have arrived and you
can enjoy quality family time...away from the digital world!
During holiday periods we do not expect children to participate in formal learning
and the next two weeks should be no different. It is important that everyone has an
opportunity to relax, recharge the batteries and take time to “just be!”.
As a British Section we are lucky enough to have a community representing several countries
and cultures. It would be quite special if through this unprecedented period we could create
an AFI Lockdown Cookbook. If you have a favourite recipe or even several, perhaps you could
make these together as a family during the holidays. The children could record these and
draw pictues to submit along with the recipe to [email protected]. We would have
a very special momento!
Seesaw and Google Classroom will be switched off during the Easter Break. If you have urgent ques-
tions or need support during the holiday period please contact us via the office email which will be moni-
tored periodically.
Attached to the email are some ideas/activities/websites which you may find useful. As suggestions continue to
come through I will forward anything which may be of interest to you.
On a final note I must say once again how proud we are of our pupils...there have been numerous special moments
shared daily and the children who are so resilient will emerge from this with many new skills. I must mention in
particular, Year 5/6 who have worked diligently and creatively with the end result being a Virtual Waxworks.
Well Done!
Take care and stay safe. Happy Birthday Ada, Karoline, Sriya

Month of The Military Child
The Rainbow Children
The history books will talk of now,
That time the world stood still.
When every family stayed at home,
Waved out from windowsills-
At those they loved but could not hold,
Because they loved them so.
Yet, whilst they did they noticed all the
flowers start to grow.
The sun came out, they can recall,
And windows, rainbows filled.
They kicked a football in their yards,
Until the night drew in.
They walked each day but not too close,
That time the world stood still.
When people walked straight down the
roads,
That once the cars did fill.
They saw that people became ill,
They knew the world was scared.
But whilst the world stood still they saw,
How much the whole world cared.
They clapped on Thursdays from their doors,
They cheered for the brave.
For people who would risk their lives,
So others could be saved.
The schools closed down, they missed their
friends,
They missed their teachers so.
Their Mams and Dads helped with their
work,
They helped their minds to grow.
The parents used to worry that,
As schools were put on hold,
Their children wouldn’t have the tools,
They’d need as they grew old.
But history books will talk of them,
Now adults, fully grown.
Those little boys and girls back then,
The ones who stayed at home.
They’ll tell you that they fixed this world,
Of all they would fulfill.
The RAINBOW children building dreams,
They’d dreamed whilst time stood still

EVERYONE A WINNER!
EVERYONE A WINNER!
EVERYONE A WINNER!
This week Sunbeams have been working
on all things Easter. Here is some of our
fantastic learning:
*Going on a shape hunt around out hous-
es, counting the number of sides and
corners of 2D shapes, then using the
Seesaw drawing tool to draw around
the shapes we find
*Drawing/painting our own shapes to
make pictures or cutting them out
*Practicing using positional language
by describing eggs under, behind,
next to a chair
*Practising sounding out words
*Making our Easter bonnets and decorat-
ing eggs
Reception Class has been getting very
involved in Easter and Spring challenges.
Evelyn and Martin made up their own
mathematical calculations based on their
egg box collections. Alfie decorated an
egg, and Vivienne and Jakub have made
their Easter bonnets. Javier coloured in a
bright rainbow. Isaac has been practising
addition and subtraction, and Gethin's
writing has really improved. Amelia wrote
a farm story and Eddie played a dice
game. Dakota made lots of pictures out of
natural materials, like this giraffe.
This week we have been
working on fractions. Year 1
have been finding half of an
object or shape and also half
of an amount. We even ex-
plored if we could find half of
a number.
Year 2
This week year 2 have really been impressive
with their home learning. They have been cook-
ing in the kitchen and using their measuring and
weighing skills. They have then linked their
maths to their literacy and have written instruc-
tions on how to make the items they have
made. The finished pieces are just fabulous!
Well done Year 2; you are all amazing!
Year 3
By Isaac—in response to a
story read
By Daniel - revisited a craft from our
Year 3/4 Production he made a friend for
his Eddie the Penguin.
Brody and Mollie
have been making
sure their maths
work is done well
and presented
beautifully.
Mollie is reading another
great book.
Year 4 It has been a very busy week in Year 4!
We have been solving “The Mystery of the Crushed Chocolate Eggs” and “The Mystery of The Easter Bunny Costume”
We wrote postcards from the naughty chicks who ran away from all the hard work and created adverts to find help for the Easter Bunny.
There was great engineering developing the best parachutes to deliver eggs safely.
All this and….we began work in Google Classroom.
Miss Macleod is so proud of each of us!
Year 5/6
Year 5/6 have continued to
work very hard and have
produced outstanding
examples of video footage
and written work for
their 'Virtual Museum of Inspirational People'. We could
not be more impressed or proud of you, Year 5/6.
Well done and thank you.
