Municipalities due to financial cuts cannot support this kind of service. Our project contributed a lot in prevent- ing, diagnosing and treating dementia in regions around Athens and Cyclades islands in collaboration with local stakeholders. Our aim is to support them towards sustaining and expanding such services. Benefits of the Intervention Culture The intervention contributed in developing a culture of prevention and treatment of de- mentia in the community. The new paradigm refers to local services, municiaplities as well as the general population and the demand of services responding toi the particular needs of tthe elderly. Social Capital Development of local social care structures to integrate services for dementia (prevention and treatment) Training of local health professionals and carers in providing better care in dementia. Liaison between services in the Primary Health Care, Secondary Care and Community Stakehoilders. Services Widening of services for dementia in the com- munity. Free service provision and training. Raising awareness for demential and elderly care as well as ageing issues. Early detection of Dementia and MCI . Introduction: Athens Association of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disor- ders(AAADRD) in collaboration with the Association for Regional Development and Mental Health(EPAPSY), CMT Prooptiki Co and se- lected Municipalities in Athens and Cyclades islands, developed 13 Counseling Centres for promoting dementia prevention and non-pharmacological interventions in the local communities. The services provided are: a) Dementia prevention programmes: screening of cognitive abilities, cognitive training groups for healthy elderly, aware- ness campaigns b) Intervention programmes for people with dementia: Memory Clinic, non-pharmacological interventions for people with Mild Cognitive Impairment and mild dementia c) Intervention programmes for carers of people with demen- tia: Training seminars on dementia, psychoeducational inter- ventions, counseling services. d) Training of Health Care Professionals already employed by the Municipalities: e-learning courses, training seminars The project is funded, under the program “We are all citizens”, by EEA and Norway grants. Bodossaki foundation is the National funds opera- tor for Greece. AAADRD and EPAPSY have run all Centers. Implementation team consisted of 11 Health Care Professionals (Doctors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Nurses).
