• On August 14, 2008 the United States is once again sending aid to Afghanistan.

• Afghan received billions in assistance during the 1980’s as a front in the cold war.

• The aid has returned with the new conflict, but it is mostly in the form for our military assistance.

• United States development in Afghanistan has been detoured by the war in Iraq.

• $36 billion- Amount the united States is spending on military.

• $10.4 billion- Amount of aid the United States pledged for development in 2002 to 2008.

• $5 billion- Amount of aid the United State has actually dispersed.

• $50 billion- The amount that Afghan government has asked for.

• “Aid appears to have established as a priority the important of influencing domestic policy in the recipient countries.”

• Over 2 million: Number of Afghans who don’t have regular supplies of Food.

• 70 percent: Number of Afghans population who can’t read or write.

• 50 percent: Number of Afghans population that lives in absolute poverty.

• 40 percent: Number of Afghans population who doesn’t have a job.

• Over 14 percent: Number of Afghan population who involved in poppy cultivation.

• Between 2002 and 2006 there was 95 percent who lived in poppy cultivators they say, “we would be ready to stop opium production in our living hoods.

• 90 percent: Number of Afghan government’s spending that is funded by foreign assistance.

• The United States should also disperse the full amount of aid it has promised.
