Study of Green Building Materials for Affordable Housing
2
Introduction Problem statements Aims and Objectives Scope Literature review Methodology Expected Outcomes Tentative work plan
overview
3
Affordable housing is defined as that which is adequate in quality and location and does not cost so much that it prohibits its occupants meeting other basic living costs or threatens their enjoyment of basic human rights
Introduction
4
Green materials for affordable housings
WHY
-Cost of construction-Outflow of
INR
Rapid population
growth
Serious Problem to Safe and Affordable Housing
AND More Carbon Producing
Materials
Production of large
quantities of waste
Growth in Industries
Problems of managing Waste
Availability of Natural
Resources
Rapid population
growth
5
AimTo develop and test sustainable low-cost green buildingmaterials intended for the Bhutanese population with regard to its availability needs and affordability
Objectives Investigations on the characterization of Industrial Waste and its potential to substitute building materials such as cement bricks cementitious binders roofing etc
Aims and Objectives
6
Study on characterization and potential of locally available materials as substitute for current construction materials
Study the appropriate proportions of mix design to obtain maximum strength
To study the suitability of different building materials in different climatic conditions
Propose a detailed sample design of a building incorporating proposed materials and other salient features of green building and thus analyze the structure
Compute detailed cost estimation of proposed building
7
Promote sustainable housing principles and elevate concepts of sustainable development by
Reusing the Industrial waste into building materials thereby solving problems of waste management to an extent
Savings on personal and national economy
Can serve as a reference guidelines for Tarayana Foundation or similar agency interested to promote the concept
Scope
8
Cement Stabilized Soil Block consist of soil water and cementin which cement content affects the quality of the blocks The method is very suitable for the population with a low income if they are manually produced and the production process is relatively easy (Arash Afkari Halmstad University 2010)
Thatch Roofing is one of the locally available and environment friendly alternative for corrugated sheets It is essentials the thatch layers are plastered with specified mud plasters making it durable against water and fire resistant( Chowdhurys and Roys VIT University Vellore India 2013 )
Literature review

In Portland cement concrete a part of cement has been replaced by fly ash The mixed has the advantages of better quality control reduction of waste and strength same as that of plain cement concrete(Dr Manjit Singh central building research institute)
As per School Design and Implementation of Construction Projects Workshop Bangkok ThailandBy using the interlocking bricks Construction cost can be reduced as much as 50 in comparison with conventional system depending upon the local price1048698Thailand -20 to 401048698Bhutan -40 to 501048698Nepal-13 to 30
