We are thrilled to announce that we have over 450 players already registered for the season which puts us on track for the biggest year in the clubs history. Our mission is to inspire a love of sport across the community and we look forward to achieving this again in 2016!
Over the break we have been working hard to prepare for the year ahead and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. A number of our recent upgrades are still under development so please hang in there while we get them up and running.
Our new website has been a big turning point for the club this year and now allows members to register online, purchase uniforms online and it gives coaches/managers easy access to contact players. Check out the website and view our coaching resources, new sponsorship packages and all our upcoming club events.
The fields have received some much needed maintenance during the past months which will ensure they last the season in good condition. Dugouts on Elder Oval have also been refurbished and have already been used by many of our teams.
Make sure you are connected with us on Facebook www.annerleyfc.com/AnnerleyFC and keep your eye out for the next AFC Vibe program!
This year we will be fielding teams across all junior age groups including Squirts (U3-U5), MiniRoos (U6 to U11) and Junior Competitive (U12, U13, U14 & U16). A number of our teams are filling fast so we encourage you to register now via our website www.annerleyfc.com
Trials and training sessions for junior players have been posted on the events page in our website and will continue to be updated over the coming weeks. We will also be finalising our teams soon and allocating coaches/managers.
Our top Men’s & Women’s teams have already begun the season successfully and will continue to battle for the three points over the coming weeks. The teams love Annerley support so make sure you visit Elder Oval to watch their next home game.
The City League teams are shaping up nicely as we field teams in Men’s City League 2, 3 & 4 and Women’s City League 3 & 5.

WOMEN’S PRE SEASON CUP RECAP Annerley’s Brisbane Women’s Premier League squad was again invited to participate in the Pine Hills Invitational Cup, which saw 4 BWPL clubs - Annerley, Capalaba, Mitchelton and Pine Hills play a round robin tournament for both their Premier League and Reserves teams.
The first fixture was against Mitchelton, who unfortunately weren’t able to field a Reserves team, so the BWPL game became more of a mixed game to allow more players to have fun.
Wemyss Photography – Alice Foster
Annerley ran away comfortable 6-1 victors, with new signing, Lareena Meiklejohn scoring 3 goals.
The second round saw Annerley host Capalaba. This was the first opportunity for the reserves to play a full game as a team. The girls worked hard but went down 3-0. In the Premier League fixture, both teams fielded reasonably strong teams and the game was quite quick and of a reasonably high standard for preseason. Both teams controlled the game periods of time, but it was Capalaba that walked away with the points, winning 3-2. Laura Blue and Donna Smith with a goal apiece.
In the final round of the cup before finals, Annerley played Pine Hills.
The Reserves team showed they learnt a great deal from the previous week’s defeat and put in a much improved performance to win 2-0. In the BWPL game, Annerley controlled the game for the most part against a Pine Hill side that was keeping a few tricks up their sleeve for the season proper. Annerley walked away 2-0 victors.
New signing Alice Foster scored her first goal for the competition and Donna Smith again got on the score sheet.
The finals of the Preseason Cup was held at Pine Hills, with both Annerley sides making the Grand Final. The squad was missing no less than 11 players, which made it quite difficult for both the reserves side and the BWPL side. That said, the reserves played a fantastic game of football and will go into round 1 on a high, after winning the Cup with a 2-0 win over Capalaba. The BWPL side also played Capalaba and were keen to even the ledger. The game was played at an extremely quick pace but lacked flow as the game was very stop-start. Annerley showed positive signs leading into round 1 with a hard fought 3-2 win. Goals to Jaymee Birleson, Rebecca Sweeney and yet again, Donna Smith.
- Anthony Costa, BWPL Coach
Wemyss Photography – Tamara Ambrose
Preseason for 2016 has finished for our Brisbane Women’s Premier League squad, and there is just 1 week left of preseason for our City teams.
As a whole, we have seen a number of familiar faces come back for another season with Annerley FC. We also have a lot of new faces, which is very exciting for the club. Unfortunately last year’s City coaches, Rodo and Faye are unable to coach due to work commitments, however this has provided an opportunity for new coaches to jump on board. I will continue to oversee the women’s program as Director of Coaching in 2016.
Our Premier League squad, which has now seen the introduction of a Reserves competition, is a mix of returning players and new players. We have signed some strong players which add a new dynamic to the squad, but have retained the core of our 2015 Premier League and City League 1 team. The squad have worked hard in
preseason and have finished preseason winning the Pine Hills Preseason Cup with both our Premier League team and our Reserves team.
Our City teams still have a week of preseason left, but already we have seen a lot of returning faces and a lot of new faces. It is fantastic to see players wanting to come and play for Annerley.
This year our City teams will be playing in the City 3 and City 5 competitions.
The City players have played a few combined friendly games thus far and have shown positive signs on the field with some strong performances. The vibe from the players towards their new coaches is very positive and we welcome them to the coaching
ranks at Annerley.
2015 was a fantastic year for the women’s teams at Annerley, both on and off the field. Already there has been a lot of hard work put into this year, and we are all striving to make 2016 the best year yet!
Anthony Costa
Annerley FC Women’s D.O.C
It was Bob Dylan who said the times they are a changin' and that's certainly been the case with the men's capital league squad over the off-season period.
With the disappointment of last season left in the past, the vibe for the new season is positive. We have welcomed a new coach Steve Faulkner who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. Similarly, we have been fortunate to pick up a number of enthusiastic and exciting new players who are showing signs of gelling well with the existing playing group.
After a slow start to the pre season, where we encountered some quality opposition; performances and results have gradually improved. We have progressed into the next round of the FFA cup , overcoming Westside FC on penalties and were buoyed by a gritty 3-0 win against New Farm in the opening league game of the season.
The ressies have also impressed with promising preseason results and a first up win against New Farm. There has also been a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to ensure that that season is a success off the field as well as on it.
Here's to an enjoyable, vibrant and exciting 2016 season. We're blue, we're white, we're... dynamite!

OUR VIBE – SOCIAL EVENTS
It's going to be another stellar year off the pitch as well as on it for Annerley FC, with a number of events already being penciled in to our social calendar.
Both our men's and women's teams have already gotten festivities underway with the first events of the season going off without a hitch. The Capital 2 men's teams kept it casual, gathering at the clubhouse for an evening of beers and banter. Our senior women's teams went with a more active option, heading over to the Greenslopes Bowls Club and getting to know one another over some friendly afternoon competition on the green.
Planning has also begun for the now infamous parties at the Annerley Clubhouse. Although last season's 90s party will be a tough night to top, we look forward to announcing two more themed parties this season, one to take place in May and the other in August, with more details to follow closer to the dates.
Another event we are proud will be returning later this season is the Annerley FC Food Drive.
Our club has a strong commitment to giving back to the local community and collecting non-perishable food items to help those in need in the Brisbane area. It is a great way for us all to get involved. If you are interested in assisting with any of these events, or if you have new ideas to bring to the social table, please get in touch with Jasmine Coote
Here's to another great social season at Annerley FC, cheers!
Why not become a member at Greenslopes Bowls Club? You can become a social member (non-bowls-playing) for as little as $5 pa. For more information, contact the club: [email protected] or call 07 3394 4942
Over the years we have been involved in raising money for charities and running food drives. We hope to encourage the community to get on board with these great causes. We also know how to have fun and encourage everyone to join in so keep an eye out for future events.
