Introduction week2014

Welcome to the institute of Communication, Media & IT with the programs of Communication (CO), International Communication (IC), Communication & Multimedia Design (CMD) , Informatics (I), Computer Science (TI) and Business IT & Management (BIM). We hope your time here will be both successful and fun.

In this introduction period we want you to get ready for a good start by introducing you to multiple school related things. You will meet your classmates and your Academic Counsellor. Also you will receive information about the organization of your program (e.g. the way it is taught, instructions for intranet, your schedules, prospectus and you will do a tour around the buildings you are going to spend time in during your study at the Hanze).

During this introduction week you will meet your classmates and get to know them by doing games together on the first day. The games will also help you to get to know the school. The second day you will get to know the city by doing a group game. On the third day you will receive all the information you need for a successfully start of the year.

On the following pages you will find the schedule of the introduction week per class and other important information. Make sure you have this information with you the whole week!

We wish you an exciting and educational introduction period in Groningen and especially good luck with your study.

Here you are, a new study program, a whole lot of new people and probably a new city. Your student life in the Netherlands is about to start. But first you will get to know your new surroundings and study program through the introduction week. This week will all be build around the theme: ‘Full moon party’. We are seeing this week as a great opportunity to get to know each other and make new friends.

Throughout this introduction you will have a spectacular time with your class and students from other classes. In four days you will receive a lot of information about the program and get to know your class members. You will also get the know the students of other classes much better by spending a night at the introduction camp.

The first two days will be at school. It will start off with a short presentation from the dean, a small introduction to your classmates and to your Academic Counselor. These days will revolve around the study program, the organization, the communication systems you are going to use and many other things. On Wednesday you will get to know the Dutch language in a Dutch ‘crashcourse’.

On Thursday you and the other students will leave Hanze and cycle all together to Harkstede. There will be two active outdoor days as well as an entertainment evening on the camp. You will sleep in big army tents, and therefore it is important to bring an air mattress, a sleeping bag and a pillow. Furthermore, it is wise to tag your bags with your name, and bring some cash to buy some drinks at the entertainment evening (there is no cash machine on the camp!). The first evening at Harkstede, your dinner will be provided. There will be NO lunch so make sure to bring your own! On the second day there will be breakfast and lunch ready for you.

We would like to end this amazing introduction week with a big final introduction week ending party in Fullmoon theme organised by KIC. Make sure you are there for the best start of your student life. There is also an opportunity for you and your classmates to get a very cheap deal at local restaurants! (You can find the coupons in your goodie bags)

You must have received a receipt through e-mail, and you must bring this with you in order to get your books with. By showing this receipt, you are able to get your books. Dear ICM student,

There you are, a new student in a (new) big student city! You probably enjoyed the KEI-week and there is a whole new year of studies waiting for you.

During this year and the coming year, you can become an active student. You can do this in a few different ways. For example by becoming an active member of Student Association KIC, as being a member of one or a few commissions, or becoming part of the Board. KIC is the Student Association of the School of Communication and Media!

If you do not have time for being a member of a commission but you would like to just enjoy great study-related and social activities, you should become a member of Student Association KIC for only €10,- a year!

The activities KIC organizes are very diverse, from readings and companyvisits to workshops and party’s. Continuing more, KIC organizes 2 trips abroad, one enjoying the snow and one enjoying the sun!Last but not least, there is a montly(every second thursday of the month) KIC drink for all KIC mem-bers!
