Counterfeit Component

Standards & Certifications

• There are an array of Counterfeit Components Avoidance Programs and certifications recognized with in our

industry, all with no definitive requirement as to which standard or certification is rated the best. The industries

consensuses has yet to settle on what standard is the most suited or functional for defining programs or processes

related to counterfeit component avoidance and risk mitigation between those who are deemed as distributors and

those who are deemed as manufactures.

• AEE US defense customers require AEE to support the requirements and certifications within IDEA-1010,

AS6081 and the upcoming ARP6178 risk mitigation program. AS6081 is the newest process standard recently

accepted and endorsed by the US Senate Arms Committee. AEE is currently seeking AS6081 certification, but

has been unsuccessful due to the limitation of accrediting agencies who can issue AS6081 certifications. AEE is

currently AS9120 certified, meaning we maintain quality process and controls over our parts and processes

accordingly.

• AEE also supports IDEA-1010 and AS5553 as defined by our US defense customers, as they are required to

follow it do to US Government contract requirements. We do cover and have processes within our AS9120 Quality

system that define our counterfeit component risk and avoidance program specifically if needed. When the

opportunity arises regarding an industry supported standard/certification that supersedes the current 5 in place

now, AEE will be the first in line to acquire it.

Counterfeit Component

Avoidance Program

AEE’s CCAP is defined within the following

AS9120 QSM Procedures:

• QOP-74-01 (Purchasing Requirements)

• QOP-74-02 (Counterfeit Part Prevention)

• QOP 75-03 (Identification & Traceability)

Page 6: Aerospace Elite Quality Assurance Presentation 2012

QOP-74-01 (Purchasing Requirements) (Process Summary)

• AEE sources parts from approved suppliers internally within AEE and

externally within the supply chain and among our preferred trading partners.

• Supplier Approval is granted/ rated based upon key factors (Prior Business

Relationships, Customer Service, Product Preservation, GIDEP

Responsibility, and Industry Certifications like AS9100, AS9120 and ANSI

S20.20 to name a few.

• Suppliers must have a defined Counterfeit Risk Mitigation Process/Program

documented and in place.

• Suppliers must be supported and endorsed within the independent supply

and distribution chain from multiple trading partners.

QOP-74-02 (Counterfeit Part Prevention) (Process Summary)

• Suppliers are consistently evaluated by AEE before placing orders.(AEE QOP-74-01)

• AEE prevents the purchase of counterfeit/suspect unapproved products because our trading

partners are required to define their sources and sourcing requirements prior to purchasing.

• AEE reduces the risk of acquiring counterfeit components by maintaining full traceability of

components back to the original manufacturer, using authorized franchised distributors enhance

our traceability efforts.

• AEE applies a rigorous product inspection routine by utilizing the Industry Standards of

IDEA-1010-B and AS5553 as our pre and post inspection process protocols.

• As part of our CCAP, AEE reviews and interfaces on a weekly basis with Government Industry

Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) in search of any currently raised alerts in addition to, any

GIDEP raised or related suspect counterfeit parts within our current inventory.

• AEE has marking permanency testing capability in house along with external visual inspection

resources. Further internal or electrical testing is subcontracted to an authorized testing facility.

Testing facilities are elected internally with AEE if needed, and in most cases are required by most

of AEE’s customers.

QOP 75-03 (Identification & Traceability) (Process Summary)

• All purchased products are identified by vendor or manufacturer,

part number, description, logos and marking stamps.

• Additional resources like Certificates of Conformance, Certificate of

Origin and in some cases product drawings are reviewed by AEE

inspection personnel to enhance our identification process.

• Products defined as non-identified or can not legitimately be

identified by AEE’s inspection processes, are tagged and processed

as non conforming products and materials.

• AEE’s traceability process is an internally documented process, from

the initial quote phase to the release of products and parts to our

customers.
