PURPOSE: The purpose of this document is to show the User how to quickly set up a Dual Primary Election with the

Advocate Software.

VERIS LOCALITY FILE (VOTER REGISTRAION FILE) Step 1 - Election Name: The first step in creating a Dual Primary Election in the Advocate software is to

download your VERIS Locality File. The Locality File for a Dual Primary will come in one of two formats, a

Republican download or a Democrat download. The Virginia SBE will send you instructions on how to

download these files from VERIS. Keep in mind that both files are the same and contain the complete

voter list, no matter which one you choose. You will also need the opposite FINAL ABSENTEE EXTRACT

file as well. So, if you download the Republican Poll book from VERIS, you will need to import the Final

Absentee Extract file for the Democrats and import this file into the Advocate PAM software. You will

also need to update the Advocate configuration for the “ELECTION_NAME” column text. The text

contained in this column will reflect which VERIS election download you choose. If you downloaded the

Democrat party, the column will be filled with the following text: “2017 June Democratic Presidential

Primary”. If you downloaded the Republican Party data, the column will be filled with the following text:

“2017 June Republican Presidential Primary”. This Election name text will be presented on the Advocate

Details screen next to the Election Name field. This text could become confusing to some Poll Workers

or Poll Watchers. Below is a work around fix to pull the Party name from the “ELECTION_NAME” field

text while importing the file into the Advocate software.

STEP 2: Navigate to your DESIGN / DETAILS Page. Open the Advocate PAM and navigate to the DESIGN Page by Clicking on the DESIGN Button

located on the right side of the screen, then click on the DETAILS Button located

on the left side of the page.

STEP 3: REMOVE YOUR ELECTION FIELD AND CHANGE THE LABEL TEXT. The next step is to remove your “Election field” by left clicking on the Field name once then pressing the

“Delete Key” on your keyboard to remove it. Once you have removed the Election filed you will then

left click once on the “Election Label” text and change it to “Dual Primary”. Save your work.

STEP 4: REVIEW CHANGES

STEP 5: ADD PARTY SELECT PLUGIN The next step is to add your “PARTY SELECT” plugin to your Pollbook. From the DETAILS Page, click on

the “CHECK-IN WORKFLOW” button and click on the “Party Select” plugin, then Click on

the “ADD” button to move it to the right side window where your active plugins reside. SAVE YOUR

WORK.

STEP 7: LOCALITY IMPORT TESTING CHANGES Import your test data and review your changes in TEST mode.

STEP 8: Review Election Name Choose the TEST election mode in PAM and view your “Voter Details” screen by checking in a Voter.

You will note your new text displays “Dual Primary”.

STEP 9: Review PARTY SELECT PLUGIN IN PCC Now check a Voter in and you should see the “Party Select” plugin active when checking in a Voter.
