Substance Abuse Expansion Awards
HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced $94 million in ACAfunding to 271 health centers in 45 states, the District of Columbia,and Puerto Rico to improve and expand the delivery of substanceabuse services in health centers, with a specific focus on treatmentof opioid use disorders in underserved populations. This investmentis expected to help awardees hire approximately 800 providers totreat nearly 124,000 new patients. California received $12,593,225for 36 health centers, representing 14% of total funding and 13% oftotal awards. CPCA congratulates all of our members that receivedfunding! CPCA Joins Supreme Court DAC/DAPA Amicus Brief. Oralarguments in April.
Through a coalition of partners, CPCA continues to challenge aTexas injunction that is standing in the way of President Obama’sexecutive order on immigration. The President’s 2014 order,expanding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)program and establishing the Deferred Action for Parents ofAmericans and Lawful Permanent Residents program (DAPA), hasbeen on hold since early last year. The U. S. Supreme Court willhear the case April 18th with a decision expected by the end of thecourt’s current term in June. CPCA joined several health centers in
signing on to an amicus brief supporting the President’s executiveorder. Download the amicus brief today.

Protecting Farmworkers: Revised EPA Worker ProtectionStandard Webinar
The Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN) will address the recentlyrevised EPA’s Worker Protection Standard (WPS) on a webinar onWednesday, April 13, 2016, 10:00 a.m. PT/ 1:00 p.m. ET. MCN willprovide participants with resources to help educate migratory andseasonal agricultural workers and their families about pesticideexposure and to assist clinicians in the recognition and managementof pesticide exposure.

New Rankings Map Inequality and Health Status AmongCalifornia Counties
The County Health Rankings grade counties across the U.S. basedon two sets of factors: health outcomes (length and quality of life)and health factors (more than 30 influencers of health, such ashousing, jobs, smoking and access to healthy food). The Bay Areacounties of San Francisco and San Mateo have the highest rates ofresidential segregation in California, according to the seventh annualCounty Health Rankings, released today by the Robert WoodJohnson Foundation (RWJF) and the University of WisconsinPopulation Health Institute.

CPCA is currently sponsoring seven bills that improve the health ofthe communities we serve through timely access to care andresources, strengthening our provider workforce pipeline, andtackling chronic disease epidemics through the Healthy CaliforniaFund. UCLA/Johnson & Johnson Health Care Executive ProgramTaking Applications
The UCLA/Johnson & Johnson Health Care Executive Program(HCEP) is an opportunity for executives of community healthcenters (CHCs) and AIDS service organizations (ASOs) to
participate in an eleven day, intensive management developmentprogram at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Theprogram, which runs from July 5 15, 2016, builds leadership andmanagement skills. The HCEP is especially designed and valuablefor organizations to plan for and/or implement shifts in theirorganizational strategies to confront the new environment forhealthcare delivery. Applications are due April 29, 2016.

The Diabetes Coalition of California has organized a webinar thatwill discuss the utilization of Community Health Workers as HealthCare Extenders. It will largely focus on clinicalcommunity linkages,diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and coordination with theChronic Care Model. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Team Strategies andTools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS)is an evidencebased program to produce efficient and effectivehealth care teams that optimize the use of evidence, information,people, and resources. It takes strategies to ambulatory medicaloffices and outpatient settings to achieve the best outcomes forpatients. TeamSTEPPS offers techniques, tools, and strategies toassist health care professionals in developing and optimizingcommunication, team knowledge, and team performance. Thetraining toolkit is available online and includes scripts, presentations,and videos.
