Accumulation — An addition to atrader’s original market position.The first of three distinct phases ina major trend in which investors arebuying.

Average Directional Movement Index(ADX) — Indicator developed by J.Welles Wilder to measure markettrend intensity.

Back-Testing — A strategy is tested oroptimized on historical data and thenthe strategy is applied to new data tosee if the results are consistent.

Bar Chart — Used to plot pricemovements using vertical barsindicating price ranges.

Engulfing Pattern — In candlestickterminology, a multiple candlestick linepattern; a major reversal signal withtwo opposing-color real bodies makingup the pattern. (Also referred to astsutsumi.)

Head and Shoulders — When the middleprice peak of a given tradable is higherthan those around it.

Market Order — Instructions to the brokerto immediately sell to the best availablebid or to buy from the best availableoffer.

Market Timing — Using analyticaltools to devise entry and exitmethods.

Money Flow — A number of technicalindicators that incorporate volumeand price action to measure buyingor selling pressure. Calculated bymultiplying the day’s volume byits average price.

Triangle — A pattern that exhibits aseries of narrower pricefluctuations over time; top andbottom boundaries need not be ofequal length.

Weighted Moving Average (WMA)— A moving average that putsmore weight on recent prices. Athree-day weighted movingaverage would add a multiple of 1to the first date, 2 to the seconddate and 3 to the third date.
