IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized the General
Meeting for the semester Spring 2016-2017 at room 265 and
251 at the Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB.The meeting
began with a minute of silence to mourn the passing of
AIUB’s late founder Late Mrs. Hasna Abedin. Following which
all the members of the Executive Board introduced them-
selves to the general members of the Student Branch. Later,
Shabab Iqbal, Chair, Chapters and Affinity Groups, IEEE AIUB
Student Branch, took the stage and began his presentation,
explaining about the benefits of the IEEE membership and
followed on to explaining what Affinity Groups and Societ-
ies are and what benefits they provide. During his presenta-
tion he explained what MTT-S, IA-S and WIE is and how they
indivdually.

Design Courses” organized by IEEE Bangla-
desh Section Educational Activi-

No. 266, Faculty of Engineering Building,
American International University-Bangladesh
(AIUB). The seminar was conducted by
esteemed speaker Dr. Mahfuzul Aziz, Professor, School of Engineering, University of
South Australia. The main emphasis of the
seminar is to feature on the benefits, prospects,
and requirements of a potential career in VLSI
Circuit Design futuristic prospects and teaching
methods of VLSI Circuit design courses.

welcome speech. He gave a brief idea
about the history of VLSI design and
talked about the improvement of transis-
tor industries from first commercially
available microprocessor by Intel (Intel
4004 Chip) to Intel’s 14 nm processor
(Skylake) launched in August 2015. Then
the floor was given to the speaker Prof. Dr.
Mahfuzul Aziz. He started the session by
discussing the changes that have been
made over the years in the integration
industries.

organized the “IEEE Members Orientation
2017” at the Auditorium, Faculty of
Business Administration, AIUB. The goal
of the event was to introduce IEEE and all
the benefits that come with the member-
ship.The event begun with the opening

ed his broad and detailed presentation on
IEEE. During his presentation he covered

IEEE AIUB STUDENT BRANCH PRESENTS “WORKSHOP ON MADC”
On 23rd March, 2017, IEEE AIUB Student
Branch in collaboration with IEEE Bangladesh
Section Student Activity Committee
organized a workshop on IEEE madC (Mobile
App Development Competition), held at
EL-52, Faculty of Engineering Building, American
International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). The
half-day long workshop consisted of 42 partici-
pants interested in learning about app develop-
ment with the help of Android Studio.The event
began with the opening speech from our honor-
able Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Ex-Chair, IEEE
Bangladesh Section, who discussed the impor
tance of app development, its efficiency and
adaptability into smart technology.Follow-
ing him, Mr. Mohammad Hafizur
Rahman, Assistant Professor, Faculty of
Science and Information Technology, AIUB,
as the second speaker presented a brief
discussion on the chronological develop-
ment of hardware architecture of micropro-
cessors, operating systems and program-
ming languages in relation to the evolution
of platforms that enabled relatively easier
methods of developing different applica-
tions.

SEMINAR ON “AWARENESS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY”
On 3rd April, 2017 IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized a seminar on “Awareness of Nuclear
Energy” hosted at the AIUB Auditorium. This
seminar focused on the basics of nuclear energy,
front end fuel management and a brief overview
of Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant and it’s
prospects.At first, Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique
Hossain, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, AIUB,
discussed about the importance of establishing a
nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. He empha-
sized on the needs for producing more energy to
meet the demands of our country. Following him,
Prof. M. A. Quaiyum, Former Chairman, Bangla-
desh Atomic Energy Commission; Professor,
Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, gave a brief history
on the events that led to formation of the Ruppur
Power Plant today. Then, Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain,
Vice President, Academics and Dean, Faculty of
Science and Information Technology, AIUB, and Mr.
Pius Costa, Registrar, AIUB encouraged students
about the benefits of this seminar.The speaker of
the event, Prof. Dr. Afroza Shelley, Professor of
School of Natural Science (Physics), AIUB, took the
stage. She started with the present power situation
of our country and how the Ruppur nuclear power
plant will contribute to generating more power to
meet the current demands. She talked about the
technical details, the costs, construction and went
over the safety features. The audience participated
in an enthusiastic question and answer session, to
which she concluded her presentation.

INDUSTRIAL TOUR TO HARIPUR 412 MW COMBINEDCYCLE POWER PLANT
On 6th April, 2017, IEEE Industrial Applica-
tion Society (IA-S) AIUB Student Branch
Chapter successfully organized the first industri-
al tour of the year to Electricity Generation Compa-
ny of Bangladesh Limited at Haripur, Narayan-
ganj. Financed by Japan International Corpora-
tion Agency (JICA), the 412 MW combined-cycle
power plant is one of the largest power plants in
Bangladesh which uses both gas and steam
turbine together to produce up to 50 percent
more electricity from the same fuel than a
traditional single-cycle plant. The expedition was
a delightful opportunity for the participants who
were interested in the field of electrical technolo-
gy.On arrival to the site, the participants and the
faculty member were welcomed and briefed by
Mr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Executive
Engineer, Electrical, Haripur 412 MW
combined-cycle power plant. Later the partici-
pants were divided into three groups, each led by
an assistant engineer.

BASICS ON ARDUINO AND WORKSHOP ON OBSTACLE DETECTION ROBOTOn 13th April, 2017, IEEE AIUB Student Branch
organized a workshop titled “Basics on Arduino and
Workshop on Obstacle Detection Robot” Robot hosted, at
room 266 in the Faculty of Engineering building. The
half-day-long event consisted of 12 enthusiastic groups,
with 5 participants in each, who were provided with
microcontrollers, a basic kit consisting of components for
the obstacle detection robot and Arduino compiler.The
opening speech was delivered by honorable Prof. Dr.
A.B.M. Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineer-
ing; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, who talked about
the growing demands for skills required in robotics to
expand industrial automation in developing countries. He
also emphasized on acquiring and integrating the
knowledge of programming languages into modern day
hardware.He then gave the stage to the first instructor of
the day, A.N.M. Nahid Hasan, Assistant Engineer,
Reverie Power and Automation Engineering LTD. who
started off with a presentation on the basics of microcon-
trollers and analyzing an Arduino board in detail. With the
help of the Arduino complier and a simulation software,
he ran through a basic demonstration step by step on
operating an Arduino board, ensuring equal participation
from all groups.

SEMINAR ON “ROAD TO ERASMUS + SCHOLARSHIP”
On 17th August, 2017, IEEE AIUB Student Branch
organized a seminar on “Road to Erasmus+ Scholarship” in
collaboration with the Erasmus Mundus Association. The
seminar was knowledgeable for enthusiasts who were
seeking to pursue higher education in Europe as it
focused on the application procedures and additional
requirements for the Erasmus+ scholarship.The opening
speech was delivered by respected Prof. Dr. Abdur
Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB;
Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, who discussed
refining a student’s strengths and experiences to ensure a
significant impact on their respective resume. He also
encouraged participants to work harder to achieve their
future academic goals.The first speaker of the seminar,
Mr. Md. Ashiqur Rahman, Country Representative
(CR) of Bangladesh, Erasmus Mundus Association, took
the stage and initiated his presentation with a brief
introduction to Erasmus Mundus Association. Then he
emphasized on different types of programs offered by
Erasmus Mundus Association for master’s degree and
doctorate degree. He also briefed about the necessary
standards of the application procedure for Erasmus+
scholarship.

SEMINAR ON “TECHBEEZ: WOMEN IN ICT COMPETITION”
On 23rd August, 2017, IEEE AIUB
Student Branch WIE Affinity Group
organized a seminar on “TechBeez: Women
in ICT Competition” in collaboration with
TechBeez Bangladesh. TechBeez is a
networking, event and competition platform
aimed at connecting aspiring female
students in STEM fields with successful and
inspiring female leaders in the ICT and digital
industry. It was an informative seminar for
enthusiasts who were looking to participate
in the upcoming competition.The first speak-
er of the seminar, Ms. Sadia Alam, Junior
Associate, EMK Maker Lab, initiated her
presentation with a brief introduction to
TechBeez. Then she elaborately discussed
the rules and regulations of the competition.
She also discussed the lack of participation
of women in job sectors of Bangladesh as an
aftermath of women’s education, health, and
marriage.Later, the stage was given to the
second speaker of the seminar, Ms. Farha-
na Yasmin, Creative Associate, EMK Maker
Lab, who started by sharing her experience
in working for women empowerment in the
engineering sector.

SEMINAR ON “INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH TECHNOLOGY FORUM”
On 10th September, 2017, IEEE AIUB
Student Branch organized a seminar on
“Introduction to Health Technology Forum” in
collaboration with the Health Technology
Forum. The Health Technology Forum
promotes the intersection of health care and
technology by connecting people worldwide
who have a common interest in making health
care better, more accessible and affordable for
everyone. It was an informative seminar as it
focused on how modern technological innova-
tions could lead to a better health. The
opening speech was delivered by our honor-
able Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique
Hossain, Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch;
Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, who
esteemed the structural goals of the Health
Technology Forum. He also emphasized on
how modern technologies can help counter-
act current health concerns.The speaker of
the seminar, Mr. Pronoy Saha, CEO and
Founder, Health Technology Forum, took the
stage and initiated his presentation with a
brief introduction to the Health Technology
Forum.

SEMINAR ON “EDUCATION ROBOT TRAINING & FANUC INDUSTRIAL ROBOT”
On 24th September 2017, IEEE AIUB Student
Branch organized a seminar on “Education Robot
Training & FANUC Industrial Robot” in collaboration
with BATTCO Engineering, Bangla-
desh and FANUC Corporation, Japan.
FANUC has consistently pursued the automation
of factories since 1956 when it succeeded in the
development of the SERVO mechanism for the first
time in the Japanese private sector. FANUC contrib-
utes to the promotion of automation for customers,
with the three pillars consisting of the FA Business
Division, based on its basic technologies of NC and
SERVO, the ROBOT Business Division
and ROBOMACHINE Business
Division which these basic technologies. The
seminar was very effective and very knowledge-
able for enthusiasts in robotics who want to
know more about the industrial applications of
robots.The speaker of the seminar, Mr. Lavan-
ya Manchanda, Key Area Manager,
FANUC India, took the stage and initiated
his presentation with an introduction to the
FANUC Corporation.

IEEE AIUB STUDENT BRANCH CELEBRATES “IEEE DAY 2017”
On 12th October 2017, IEEE AIUB Student Branch hosted
and celebrated “IEEE Day 2017” at American International
University - Bangladesh (AIUB). The theme of this year’s IEEE Day
is, “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. In commemoration of the day, IEEE AIUB Student Branch
organized multiple sessions and competitions throughout the
day.The event commenced with an opening speech delivered
from our honorable Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain, Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Dean, Faculty of Engineering,
AIUB, who started off by explaining the participants the impor-
tance of collaborating and sharing ideas with individuals for the
advancement of science and technology. Later, he briefed the
participants about IEEE, different forms of IEEE membership and
its advantages. Afterwards, he inaugurated the “IEEE Day 2017”
with a cake cutting ceremony joined by the participants.After
the inauguration ceremony, the first session of the event, which
was a motivational talk, commenced with a presentation by Dr.
M Mohiuddin Uzzal, Associate Professor & Head of Post
Graduate Program, AIUB. He then explained to the participants
that the key to success is to never give up hope. He also urged
the participants to follow their own dreams which give them
inspiration and motivation and walk their way up through it to
be happy in life. The concluding speech of the session was
delivered by Dr. M. Tanseer Ali, Senior Assistant Professor,
Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. Later, he gave a certificate and
tokens of appreciation to Dr. M Mohiuddin Uzzal.After
the motivational speech, an interactive session on a game of
Charades was conducted for the participants. Nine teams were
formed for this session with five members in each team. Follow-
ing the interactive session, a workshop titled “PCB Design with
Eagle” was conducted by Mr. Mahmud Yusuf, Embedded
System Engineer, AplombTech BD, who started off with a
presentation on PCB designing. He then gave a description of
the EAGLE software.Later, he demonstrated the generation of
a PCB layout of a negative feedback amplifier using a 741
op-amp. The workshop concluded with a question and answer
session with the participants. Afterwards, Dr. M. Tanseer Ali
delivered the closing speech and presented Mr. Mahmud
Yusuf with a certificate and tokens of appreciation.

WORKSHOP ON “SUBSTATION PLANNING, DESIGNING & COMMISSIONING”
On 21st October 2017, IEEE AIUB Student
Branch & IEEE Industry Applica-
tions Society (IA-S) AIUB Student
Branch Chapter organized a workshop
titled "Substation Planning, Designing & Commis-
sioning" in collaboration with INNOVA Engi-
neering Limited, which took place at
Room No. CL11, Annex 2, American International
University - Bangladesh. The workshop focused
on enlightening the participants on the
fundamental principles of establishing substa-
tion. It was a very knowledgeable venture for
enthusiasts who were looking forward to
pursuing a career in power engineering.The first
speaker of the seminar, Engr. Md. Mahadi
Habib, B.Sc in EEE, Trainer Innova Skill Develop-
ment Training Center (ISDTC), initiated his presenta-
tion by emphasizing on electricity generation
process from the national grid to the consumer.
Later, he elaborated on the classification of substa-
tion starting with "Transmission Substation" which is
used to connect two or more transmission lines and
ending with "Switching Station" which operates only
at a single voltage level.

IEEE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS BANGLADESH STEP 2017”
On 2nd December 2017, IEEE AIUB
Student Branch hosted "IEEE Young
Professionals Bangladesh STEP
2017". The program was organized by IEEE
Young Professionals, Bangladesh Section and
supported by IEEE Region 10 Young
Professionals. The IEEE STEP (Student
Transition & Elevation Partnership) was
developed to provide a dynamic program for
facilitating the transition from Student
member to young professional by introducing
the opportunities and benefits of IEEE
membership during the onset of a STEM
career. A total of 60 delegates from different
universities and institutions took part in this
flagship expedition.The venture was inaugu-
rated with an opening speech from Dr. M.
Tanseer Ali, Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student
Branch; Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of
Engineering, AIUB, who discussed the
importance of learning professional ethics for
a better professional career.Following that,
the first session titled Essential Skill of Excel
for Career Development was conducted by
Khawja Ashhad Belal, Manager,
Business Analytics, ACI Logistics Limited. He
initiated his presentation by briefing the use
of Microsoft Excel in corporate and industries.
