OMM So, whats new?

WHAT’S IMPROVED SINCE EARLIER VERSIONS?

We have been listening hard to feedback on the hill, by email, and at the event. Many of the improvements we have made are a direct result from this feedback. Thank you!

We loved the stability and comfort of the OMM Running Light, but we felt it could do more. - So we gave it a facelift and a new name for 2008 –

OMM ADVENTURE LIGHT 20!

SO, WHATS NEW?

• LEANWEIGHT COMPRESSOR – a Leanweight version of our famous Multi Sport Compressor. It is removable, and when fitted it can carry bladders, shovels, helmet and more!

• UGR – Universal Gear Rail. This has worked so well on our larger packs, we had to include it on the OMM Adventure Light. It assists in carrying everything from axes to poles to skis.

• Waist belt pockets – We have made the waist belt pockets with secure zip access – one is mesh, the other our unique 210T fabric. You can store all small items safely, and increase the packs On The Move Accessibility (OTMA)

• Waterbottle pockets – We have redesigned the side pockets and angled them for

easier user access.

• Harness & Back Panel - to increase your comfort, we have completely redesigned the shoulder harness, and then added more foam! It is fully compatible with the OMM TRIO Chest Pouch 4L. We have also added more support in the lumber region of the back panel, to enhance user comfort. Shorter ‘fillets’ on the shoulder straps ensures a good fit, whatever your size.

• Chest strap – Now completely removable, enhancing Leanweight – But remember, no chest strap = NO WHISTLE!

• Enhanced Reflective Areas – For your safety at night or low visibility conditions, we have added more reflective flashes.

• Choice of hydration tube exits – Not only can you choose where you put your hydration system, you can also choose how you place your tube. Our packs allow conventional ‘over the shoulder tube feeds’, as well as under the arm tube feeds for fast access and shorter tube lengths.

• Thinner tapes/buckles – where possible we have reduced the width and size of straps and buckles, again reducing overall pack weight without compromising strength or performance.

• Elastic strap retainers – No more flapping straps on the waist belt with our new elastic retainers. Quick and easy to use - even on the move.

Our packs stand out from the crowd because of the following:-

1. LEANWEIGHT™ DESIGN:

Unique method of customisation by stripping OMM Adventure Packs to their LEANWEIGHT™ or adding features .e.g. Mountain Mover pack is 1.8 kg full weight and 700g LEANWEIGHT™

2. HYDRATION SYSTEM:

Whether you are in UK uplands where water is freely available year round and doesn't (yet) need treatment --- or in a limestone area or hot desert where all water must be carried; our packs offer you total flexibility using traditional, readily available bladder systems and/or bottles – carried inside or outside the pack for rapid refill, right or left shoulder tube feed.

3. GEAR&TOOL CARRY CAPABILITY:

Unique flexible designs enable you to carry any tool required for the route, journey or competition: compass, camera, poles, axes, skis, snow shoes, snow shovel and so much more See tool carry diagrams by each product

4. CUSTOMISATION:

For the lightweight pundits we provide advice on more aggressive customisation and still hold guarantees if you 'resort to the knife’

5. STABILITY:

A special configuration of harness attachment points and compression systems keeps the load with you

6. STRENGTH:

Lightweight is achieved without strength loss by means of the OMM LEANWEIGHT™ (textile) CHASSIS

7. OTMA:

On The Move Accessibility. Means speed and efficiency on the hill. All the things ideally placed where you want them - when you want them.

LEANWEIGHT™ Chassis.

The normal fabric weights used in packs made by other brands is around 400-500g/m2. Our fabrics are much lighter and so a new type of construction has been devised; LEANWEIGHT™ Chassis.

What is the LEANWEIGHT™ Chassis?

The harness is attached to a very strong cradle system comprising back panel, base, wings and front strips, creating an effective ‘chassis’ which ensures the strength of the whole - whilst allowing all other fabric to be as light as necessary.

We use a tough HTTF 240g/m2 fabric, around half the weight norm, for the LEANWEIGHT™ chassis. (most manufactures use a 400g/m2.)

See diagram - The harness and hip belt strap are attached to this to ensure good strength e.g. to resist high stress loads if you fall. Very light but strong 210T Ripstop fabric (80gm/m2) is used in the non load bearing areas, shown as clear in the diagram.

In case this needs an occasional patch due to damage, you can still be assured the strength integrity is maintained through the LEANWEIGHT™ Chassis

Benefits of LEANWEIGHT™ are • Choice of correct weight /strength/ performance for the activity. • Design which enables user to strip pack down to ‘LEANWEIGHT™’. We enable/encourage self-customisation without impacting on the guarantee 210T Lightweight, rip stop

This is a practical system driven by ideas coming from our lead user group . Efficiency on the hill comes from having your gear where you want it, when you want it. OMM Leanweight™ systems are about customising the pack capacity and capability. OMM Leanweight™ Link System has 5 discreet / semi hidden link points: 3 pairs of cord lock buckles plus the UGR - Universal Gear Rail, in 3 positions on .

Packs and special accessories then cross link in an amazing way.

The TRIO Chest Pouch works with all the OMM packs, and using the Leanweight Link System it can be used in thtree ways – traditionally as a chest pouch, on the inside as a security pocket, on the front as a ‘piggy back’ pouch in either a high or low position.

Leanweight Compressor – The Leanweight little brother of our famous MSC Multi Sport Compressor, it is a removable compression and gear stowage panel. It is attached via the UGR Universal Gear Rail and side straps with buckles. It enables you to compress & and stabilise your pack, carry hydration bladders or awkward tools like ice tools, a shovel, probes or a helmet. You could also carry wet items outside your pack. Not least you can strip it off to enhance Leanweight when needed. It also fits within the pack to hold bladders or separate items.

Our packs are designed for moving efficiently. The more that you can access without taking your pack off, the less you need to stop and the faster you can move. We call this On The Move Accessibility (OTMA).

OTMA features on the OMM Adventure Light 20 pack include:

• Two substantial zipped belt pockets. Big enough for hat, gloves, compass. Complete with securing clips to ensure that compasses or car keys are not lost.

• Reachable side pockets. Angled openings positioned so that you can remove and replace bottles and food without removing the pack. A perfect fit for the new OMM 500 ml bottle

• Hydration bladder compatibility – Elastic loops on the shoulder harness keep the bite valve accessible and out of the dirt. Or alternatively you can use the new under arm tube feed for easy reach and shorter tubes Bladder can be stowed in a dedicated internal pocket or behind the Leanwieght Compressor.

• Safety Whistle – Integrated as part of the chest harness buckle, it ensures that you know where it is, should it be needed.

OMM TRIO Chest Pouch compatibility – Shoulder harness has small side release buckles for the OMM TRIO Chest Pouch. Add this for extra OTMA and to increase pack capacity. The pouch also works in a variety of positions around the pack.

How to - stabilise your pack Three factors are key to ensuring that you eliminate bounce when moving quickly. Compressing the pack to hold the contents securely. The OMM Adventure Light 30SL pack has two compression systems, which can be used individually or together.

• The Leanweight Compressor.

• Lid flap strap. It also has small webbing loops on each side. This is so you can thread cord or shockcord elastic through, to create another compression system, or carry further items. Fitting the pack to your body correctly.

• Loosen all of the harness straps and put it on.

• Tighten the belt around your waist, then adjust the shoulder straps to suit.

• Finally adjust the chest strap so that it is snug. Make adjustments on the move to retain comfort and stability for uphill, downhill, walking and running.

Experiment to find what works best for you!

A WORD ABOUT PERSONAL CUSTOMISATION.

The weight may be further reduced by permanently removing other components, such as mesh pockets. Doing so will not affect the guarantee, so long as any failure does not result directly from the modification. We are always keen to see the modifications people have made to our packs!

Page 14

How to - get best product life and performance All OMM packs are designed to be light and comfortable. Once a pack loses its DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish, it will get heavier and less comfortable when it rains due to the ingress of water into the fibres of the pack, especially the mesh. OMM recommend Grangers cleaning and re-proofing products. By treating the outer fabric with Granger’s Fabsil or Fabsil Gold products you will not only keep your OMM pack as light as the day you bought it, but also help prevent fabric damage due to U.V. degradation.

Light soiling can be removed with a damp cloth. For more serious cleaning or re-proofing either hand or machine wash using Fabsil Universal Cleaner.

If machine washing, then follow the instructions below.

• If a pack is particularly soiled in a certain area, Granger’s water based cleaner ‘Plus’ allows you to spot clean before you clean the entire pack. Simply apply a 50% treatment/water solution onto a clean cloth and gently work the solution into the soiled area. Make sure you wash the entire pack surface straight after applying the treatment

• Remove the Duomat, ice axe straps and loops.

• Make sure all zips and buckles are done up.

• Place inside an old pillowcase, to make sure that straps do not get tangled and caught.

• Wash at 30°C, synthetics cycle, short slow spin.

• Drip dry.

• Allow the pack to dry completely before applying Fabsil or Fabsil Gold

Small tears in the rucksack fabric should be repaired promptly to stop them spreading and prevent fraying. This can be done using a proprietary repair tape such as Tenacious Tape, available from most specialist outdoor shops. To further strengthen the repair, seal the edges of the patch with seam seal adhesive. Effective temporary repairs can be made in the field using duct tape.
