Adventist chaplains are ministers with current conference-issuedcredentials who are granted ecclesiastical endorsement to serve in one ofthe specialized ministries. The chaplaincy is an equally valid and viableexpression of ministry on par with more traditional expressions ofpastor and evangelist. They are an integral element of theAdventist ministry.

All chaplains are pastors, though not all pastors are called to bechaplains. Just as medical doctors require graduate school andlicensing before they can practice medicine, pastors requireprofessional training and credentialing. To become a specialist inany medical field requires advanced professional training, residencyand certification. To become a chaplain, pastors must have advancedtraining, pastoral experience verified by current credentials andecclesiastical endorsement.

Ecclesiastical endorsement is the Church's affirmation that a person is seeking or serving inchaplaincy and has presented evidence of their calling and training for that ministry. It signifies the

applicant (1) is an experienced minister in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church; (2)has completed appropriate training for the specialized ministry; (3) is placed or is seeking placementin an approved chaplaincy ministry setting; and (4) will maintain an accountable relationship with theChurch.

Chaplain Robin Patricia Walker earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Washington AdventistUniversity (formerly Columbia Union College), and a Masters of Divinity from Wesley TheologicalSeminary. Her post graduate work in Clinical Pastoral Education, (CEP) for hospital chaplaincy wassuccessfully completed by fulfilling an Internship prerequisite at the Washington Hospital Center, and concluding the requirement with the Residency at Georgetown University Hospital. March 10,2009 the Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries Committee granted her ecclesiastical endorsement.

    To be read consecutively

    Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither bedismayed; for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

    Luke 1:46-55

46 And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 forhe has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call meblessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 And hismercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with hisarm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, 52 he has put down the mightyfrom their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of hismercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever."

    II. Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

    Composed by Chaplain Patrick Bradley

The Lord be with us as we run to yet another emergency. If it be a patient dying let us be yourconsolation to the family. If it be a trauma coming to the emergency department let us be yourhands, your voice, your presence for the victims, for their loving friends and family, for the staff.

If it be a code then let us be your voice when it is time to stop. Watch over and protect all thepatients in the hospital today, especially those you will call home. This prayer rises up from thedepths of each chaplains soul. Amen.
